Passionate Yearning Page 3

“ENOUGH!” My voice is loud and commanding.

“Dr. Peters…Raina, please forgive me my outburst. I know being home would be better for you, but I can protect you better here. My brother is not one who likes to give up and if he wants you, I’m sure it’s for a reason. Please don’t fight me on this.”

“If you have a heart or a soul or anything, you will find a way that I can go home and work because I can’t stay here, plus I’ve taken self-defense classes.”

“How did those classes help when the wolf attacked you at your home? I might add that is the place you wish to return to.”

“Hey, it didn’t help because I was caught off guard, but this time I know what to expect, and I didn’t say you can’t protect me, I just said I want to go home.”

Jonathan looks at me and picks up a handful of grapes and stuffs his mouth and when I think he’s going to respond, he picks up some bacon and starts eating and then has the nerve to smile sweetly at me.

  “Jonathan, you’re being rude now.”

Finally, he stops eating and drinks down some juice.

“Raina, if, and I do mean if, I allow you to go home, I would have to accompany you everywhere you go, including the hospital and the first time you attempt to ditch me, I will bring you back here until the threat is taken care of.”

“If you will allow me to go home and to walk around freely in my home, then I will allow you to stay and protect me from your crazy ass brother. Now, work, I’m not sure how I’m going to get you in while I’m treating patients. We have something here in the USA called HIPAA laws, so yeah, not sure about that. I will be safe at the hospital, I promise, and when I leave you can be outside waiting. Although, I’m not sure how you’re going to solve the problem if you’re with me always.”

He walks over to me slowly, and everything south goes weak for him. I’m not sure why my attraction for him is so strong, but I will not act on it.

“HIPAA laws are not something I know about, so they will not apply to me, and as for solving the problem, I have my ways. Now, I’m going to take you home, but let’s hug on this agreement.”

Hug? I don’t want to hug him. He’s way too sexy to be that close only for a hug. I’m looking away hoping he forgets the hug, but he stands there with those sexy eyes and towers over me.

  “A hug is not…”

“It’s the only way you’re leaving here, Dr. Peters.”

I move forward, and he very gently pulls me close and wraps his arms around my waist. I didn’t know where to put my arms, so they rested on his arms. Jonathan’ head moves close to my neck, and he takes in a deep breath. The wave of electricity that passes through me to him at that moment gives me a shiver.

I have never felt this comfortable with anyone, but with a dragon-shifter who says he’s a law man, I want to rest my head on his chest.

When the hug is over, I find that we are both looking at each other. Jonathan Justice can make any woman weak in the knees, and I’m no exception.

“Now, let me take you back home, Dr. Peters.” Jonathan says, calmly.

“Raina, you can call me Raina and thank you, Jonathan.”

He walks over to the door and opens it and waves his hand for me to walk through. As I pass him Jonathan’s presence is addictive. I’m secretly glad he’s coming to my home with me and it has nothing to do with wolves trying to kidnap me.

  Chapter 5

What did I agree too? I never let someone talk me into something, I always using my powers and insight as the keeper of the law to make decisions, not to mention the way her body felt against mine seemed right.

When we arrive back at Raina’s home, I do a walk through with her behind me, and I make sure there’s no one in the home, but I can smell the wolves from the last time they were here, trying to abduct Raina.

“Ok, it’s all clear. I guess you need that window fixed. If you don’t mind, I can fix it.” I say, looking for her response. I want to please her for some reason and that can either be a good thing or the worst thing ever.

“I can call a glass company to fix it, Jonathan.” She replies.

I look at her and wonder if she truly doesn’t realize how much her safety is important to me.

“Calling a company can’t happen, the less people, the better. Besides, I can do this, after all, not only do I keep the law, I also have the power to put things back together.”

I don’t wait for her to respond and I use my powers to lift the broken glass off the floor and piece by piece, in a matter of seconds, her window is fixed. I turn and look at Raina, and her mouth is open.

“Shit, you really are something…I’m lost for words, but I’m impressed that’s for sure.”

The fact that I was able to please Raina again, gave me pleasure. It’s like my heart instantly filled with joy after knowing I made her happy.

“I’m the best of the supers, Raina. Nothing can protect you like me.” I reply.

My words hold meaning to them, and it’s weird. I feel something for this human, barely knowing her, and more importantly, I’m still not sure what she is, but all human I’m sure she is not.

“Well, I need to report to work tonight, so I’ll go look over my emails from my colleagues.” She says, walking towards her upstairs.

I start following her when she turns around and looks at me with confusion.

“Jonathan, we are in the same house together you’ve checked my entire home, including the space under the sink, I think me reading notes on patients can be done alone, besides remember I said HIPAA laws.”

I can’t help but laugh at her giving me a reminder of the human laws. Now don’t get me wrong, I respect the human laws, but I follow the laws that keep the supers in line. I don’t care about her patients enough to look at their personal information, unless it will help me catch my brother Nathan. That’s a huge problem I need to solve.

“I will not look at your patients’ information but leaving you alone is not going to happen beautiful.”

She smiles at me and her honey eyes are like heaven. I wonder if she’s part angel, but she would know if she came from that, right?

“Thank you, Jonathan, umm…you can sleep in either of the guest rooms they are small, but it will get the job done.”

“I will not be sleeping until I’ve found my brother and made it safe for you.”

“You can’t do that, you have to sleep. We will work out something, but you not sleeping is unhealthy.”

“Raina, I’ve been the keeper of the law for over two hundred years, when someone is breaking our laws and on the loose, there’s no sleep until I have capture the person responsible. Besides I’m a dragon, I can handle this.”

She looks at me and places her hands on her hips.

“Then I’m going to tell you something as a doctor, I don’t care what species you are, all animals; humans, dogs, bears, bats and dragons need sleep. I may not know much about dragons, but you’re part human and we need sleep so you will sleep.”

She looks adorable worrying about me. I haven’t had anyone worry about me since the day I was appointed as a keeper. Even though she’s beautiful on the outside, her concern is beautiful as well. I don’t want her to worry, so I must ease her mind.

“Raina, don’t worry, I’ll think of something so that I get some sleep and just so you know I appreciate you caring about me.”

I look into her eyes and she stares back at me, and in that moment, I want to kiss her. I take a step forward and then decide against it. I don’t want Raina to think that I would take advantage of her.

“I…I should go to my room and look at my messages and emails.” She says, quickly.

As she starts walking up the stairs, I allow her to get a few feet ahead of me before I start following her, all the while listening for any sign of an attack to abduct her again. Once we are in her room and she gets on her laptop, all her focus turns to whatever she’s reading. I take this moment to admire her even more, Especially the way she looks
at the laptop, her face all serious. Raina is focused, and I want her to be able to do her job free of threats.

I allow my eyes to get a good look at her room, maybe I can find out more about her, even find out why she doesn’t smell human. She has beautiful art paintings on her walls, but they all are birds in the sky; night, morning, evening, rain, sun, yet all different birds. I look at her and I’m sure she’s not any species of bird shifter, maybe she likes birds a lot. Then I see a picture of her parents, when she’s a child, on her dresser. She doesn’t look like her father or mother. They both have blue eyes and blonde hair. She doesn’t have any features that would suggest that she is related to the people in the picture.

“Raina, are you an only child?” I ask.

She pauses a few seconds then responds.

“I was adopted, so I’m not sure.”

That explains why she doesn’t look like them, but this also would explain that she has no idea that she is not completely human. Her real parents gave her up, depriving her of any knowledge of her ancestors.

“I’m sorry, have you ever looked for your real parents?” I continue.

“There’s no need to be sorry, my parents, the ones who loved and nurtured me is enough for me, and no I will never look for my birth parents. They didn’t care enough to raise me and I don’t care who they are…I don’t want to talk about it, Jonathan.” She says, with hurt in her voice.

Even though she doesn’t want to talk about it, I can tell it’s a deep wound about her birth parents. I will not push though, respecting her wishes. I look at her bed, and it’s extremely large for such a small lady.

“Raina, you have a big bed for you being so small.” I say, admiring the bed and the things her and I could do in the bed together.

“And you are full of questions, I always feel different when I sleep and a big bed is something that helps me from hitting the floor. Now, I really need to read over this.” She points to her laptop and arches her brow at me.

I raise my hands in surrender, but I want to ask more questions.

I sit in silence for another hour, watching and wondering about Raina Peters. The longer I’m in the room, the more my desire for her increases. I’m drawn to her unlike any other female. The way she looks at the screen, her lips parted slightly. I tune in to her heart beat, which should be calm, but is racing. . Maybe my probing into her family upset her, I haven’t spent this much time with a human, but I know they love apologies.

“Raina I’m sorry for asking so many questions, you’re the first human I’ve spent this much time with.”

She looks at me, and I feel weak by the sight of her.

“It’s ok, I shouldn’t be so snappy, it’s that I put the idea of finding my birth parents away a long time ago… You know what I need? To take a bath and then I’ll make us some food, and we can talk before I go to work.”

“I don’t want to ever upset you, Raina, I want to please you.” Surprising myself by how much those words have meaning behind them.

I want to know her better in every sense, but I will not allow my selfish desires to cloud the real issue. She’s in danger because of me, and I need to make it safe for her. She stood from her desk and went to her door and opened it.

“You have to wait outside the door or go in the den and watch some TV or something, but I’m not letting you stay in here while I take a bath.”

I look at her, and my thoughts immediately go to what she would look like naked, relaxing in the bath.

“I…I will do this and be on the lookout for any suspicious noises or behavior outside. Watching the TV will never happen.”

I walk past her to get out of the room, the smell of her is intoxicating to my senses.

“Jonathan? Can I see your dragon?’” She asks.

I stop dead in my tracks, looking at her as a human and humans are afraid of supers, including dragons. I’m also not a pet dog. I’m the real deal, a dragon, and by sight alone, I could make you want to un-see my beast.

“Raina, if you see my dragon, you would never be able to feel comfortable with me again.”

“You don’t give me enough credit Jonathan. I think I can decide what I can and can’t handle and you’re telling me that you can change into a big dragon. Well, I think I deserve the chance to see said dragon.”

My beast inside claws to touch her but I keep him under control.

“If there’s time I may show you my beast, but no promises, now take your bath and I’ll be close by.”

She smiles and then closes the door. I hear the water turn on and I decide I would check out her refrigerator. I’m hungry and need food before she cooks, but it will not stop me from eating what she decides to make.

I decide on the box of cereal and take it to her door and sit outside and wait for her to open it. As I’m eating, I listen for any sign of other supers, but there’s nothing and that’s weird. Nathan, my brother, has his mind set on abducting Raina. He’s not going to give up that easy. I finish the box off and stand, waiting for Raina to finish. I’m anxious to be back in her presence and that’s not good. When I hear the bathroom door open, I decide to come back in, thinking she would be dressed. I open the door and walk in, finding her with a towel wrapped around her wet and sexy body. I immediately turn my head, not wanting her to think I’m a creeper.

“I’m sorry, I thought you would be dressed.”

“Jonathan, you have a lot to learn about human women.”

I want to take her in my arms and kiss her until she can’t take anymore, but for now I’ll step out and wait.

“I’ll be in the hall waiting.”

  “Thank you.”

While waiting in the hall, I tell myself to get my emotions in check. I can’t be distracted with Raina. She’s human and possibly something more, but my only concern right now is to make it safe for her and then go back to making sure the laws among the supers are kept.

When Raina opens the door, she’s dressed in jeans and a shirt, but I can’t help remember her wet body as she walked out after her bath.

“Are you ready for the easy dish I cook?” She asks, smiling.

  “Yes, I am.”

I stand in the kitchen and watch her get the food started and then she comes to sit with me.

“Jonathan, thank you for protecting me, I’m not sure how I can repay you.”

“There is no need to repay me Raina, and besides I like protecting you.”

She blushes, and it’s sexy to see her face turn red. It’s been awhile since I’ve been with a female sexually and being this close to Raina all that need is rushing forward.

“Tell me, do you date?” She asks, getting up to check on the noodles.

“I don’t have time to date, although I would like to change that.”

I shouldn’t have said that out loud, but it’s true. I miss female companionship.

“Do you think you’ll ever find love?” she sets a plate down in front of me with some kind of dish, but it smells good. So, I’ll eat it.

“I hope to find my true mate, we believe in true mates. It would be beautiful to find her.”

“Wow, that’s amazing that you believe in waiting for that one special someone. Humans, we don’t have true mates, we believe that if you find that special guy that he becomes the true mate.”

“That’s only because you don’t know what it means to have someone special created especially for you.”

“What if you never find her?”

“Then I’ll come find you.” She stops eating and looks up at me.

I need her to know that I find her attractive and not only in looks.

“Jonathan, I’m human, and if I was to be in your world I would choose you, but it would only make things complicated to become involved.”

  “I agree,”

“Look at the time, my shift will be starting soon.”

I know she’s trying to change the subject, but I can tell she desires me like I do her. She stands and tries to walk away, bu
t I can’t let her go that easy.

I stand and take her hand slowly, bringing it to my mouth and kiss it softly. That simple touch of her hand on my lips sends a shock wave through my body. I kiss her again and her mouth opens slightly, then she moves closer to me.

“What are we doing?” She asks breathlessly.

“I’m kissing your beautiful hand and would like more.”

I should pull away and let her pretend we don’t have a connection, but my beast will not allow me to do it.
