He pulled back only part way then, rewarding her begging with hard, fast thrusts that shook her entire body. She clung to the bed for support as he bent over her, one hand on the mattress by her head, the other on her clit, taking her like an animal.

Almost as if he'd heard her think it, she felt his tongue, hot and wet against the side of her throat, followed by the scrape of teeth. She gasped as she felt him bite down, just hard enough to make her pulse race and her walls tighten sharply around him. He groaned against her skin and she could feel him fighting the urge to cum, wanting to make this moment last longer.

He moved suddenly, turning her on to her back and thrusting back into her before he picked her up. He held her in his arms, his shaft throbbing inside her as he carried her across the room.

She shivered, dazed and confused, as cool night air hit her back, and she realized he'd taken her out onto the balcony. He set her on the marble railing, cool and slightly damp against her skin, his arm around her back to keep her safely in place as he began to thrust into her again.

"H-Hestian," she struggled to form words, breathless and moaning as he took her, "Someone's going to see!"

"Let them look," he growled, pulling her close to bury his face in her throat again, "Let the whole kingdom see that you're mine. And I am yours."

She felt his teeth against her throat again and her breath caught, dizzy with conflicting sensations, from the warm strength of his body, to the cool empty drop behind her back, to the sharp fangs pricking her skin. The danger only served to excite her more, though she clung to him tightly, frightened of falling.

Hestian feared nothing. He only drove into her harder, her voice rising with each powerful impact until she was wailing his name, unable to control herself as waves of delicious pleasure crashed over her, whiting out her vision and making her fall almost limp in his arms.

An instant later, she felt the pulsing heat of him finishing within her, and then a swift stinging pain at her throat, so quick and sharply she barely noticed it before it was forgotten in the descending sleepy haze of afterglow. She could have sworn she could almost hear Hestian purring as he carried her back to the bed and curled up around her, holding her close and tightly.

As she lay there, looking into his handsome sleeping face and fighting off sleep herself, her hand went to her throat, surprised when she found blood there. He'd bitten her, not deeply enough to be dangerous, but enough to leave a mark. Perhaps that was what he'd meant by marking her as his own.

She smiled sleepily, tucking her head under his chin. She supposed this made it official. She was his, Hestian's mate. The destined mate of the future king, and her, Queen of Nibiru. Not that it mattered. She'd be as happy to be queen of a cardboard box in an alley so long as Hestian was there to share it with her. She thought, so long as he was there, she might never be unhappy again.

  Chapter Fourteen

Back on earth, Astrid's father sat on the back porch of the family home, looking up at the stars and wondering. Astrid had never been the type to run off. The entire family had been frantic trying to locate her.

The police had been called, but when they'd tracked down the lab where she supposedly working, they'd found it destroyed, and no trace of Astrid or the professor she was meant to be working with.

The police told them not to give up hope too quickly, but something told him Astrid wasn't coming back. So he sat on the porch and looked at the silver stars she loved and wondered where among them she might be.

Just as he was about to turn and go back inside, movement caught his eye. There was a piece of paper caught in the porch railing. Curious, he bent to pull it out, his eyes widening as it unfolded and he recognized Astrid's hand writing.

  "Dear Dad,

I got my wish. I made it to the stars. I don't have time to explain everything. I know you must have been scared. But I'm happy here, and I'm safe. And I'm sorry, but I'm not coming back. I know you know I would if I could. But I can't give this place up.

I've seen so many incredible things here. I wish I could show them to you. And I'm going to see more, explore the stars the way I always wanted to. So please don't worry about me. Tell everybody else I love them. If I can, I'll try to get a message to you again. But in case I don't

  I love you

  Astrid."

Folded up in the letter was a necklace made of alien rose gold metal wrapped around a gem that could be found nowhere else in the galaxy. Astrid's little insurance policy, to make sure her family was taken care of.

The old man stared at the letter for a long time, tears running down his weathered face as he tried to decide what it meant. His daughter was not coming home.

Something wild and impossible had happened to her. But she was alive. She was out there among the stars, happy. He raised a hand to the sky, wondering if he could see the star she was orbiting from her, wondering if she could see him. He folded up the letter and tucked it away, content to believe the impossible, and went back inside to his family, smiling.
