I pulled away from aware that this was neither the time of the place for this but wanting her so bad it was almost a physical ache. “We’ll discuss this later” I whispered to her and rose going over to check with the officer when we would be able to leave. I had a mate to claim and I couldn’t wait.

The voices seemed happy with what I’d done and I breathed a sigh of relief. It had taken a few days to get to my target but once their it hadn’t been hard to convince Tyler to act on his feelings. I knew that Luc would be perfectly fine facing off against him. After all we were much faster and stronger than humans, let alone a stressed out one who had not been taken care of himself for awhile. This step had been necessary I tried to convince myself but still feeling the worry that something could have gone wrong. What if Arianna had gotten in the middle and been hurt? I didn’t know exactly when or how Tyler would confront Luc, I just knew he would as Kale had left to take his mate on a weekend trip and was not there. From the handgun that had been in the human’s house and how he kept going back to it, I assumed he had some harebrained idea to use it on Kale. I’d looked at his surface thoughts and they were such an imbalanced mess I’m surprised that he was able to function at all. There were obviously deep seated issues there and unfortunately for him I had used that for my own means.
I snorted to myself and shook my head, I know we kept humans in the dark about a lot of what we can do but come on…had he really thought that would work? I guess he thought the reports of Kale being a master fighter were exaggerated and the videos circulating the internet of his trainings were fake. There were always paparazzi circling around trying to get a glimpse at the known selkrians, trying to leak the next big secret about us. I stilled as a vision filled my head, telling me where I needed to go now. I nodded and went to pack my bags, looks like I was going to paradise.

I ushered Arianna into my apartment later, dealing with the situation at Autonomous had taken longer then I had anticipated. We’d had to go down to the police station and give an official accounting of the events. I’d learned that Arianna had originally came up stairs because she was testing the tablet and the holographic display had went completely out. She’d come upstairs to find me as I had not yet made it downstairs to tell me about the problem. She’d heard Tyler yelling as she got out the elevator and was going to wait at first but when she heard him mention the gun she had called 911 and decided to intervene. I’d resisted the urge to grab her by her shoulders and shake her gently as she’d recounted her part of the story. Furious that she had put herself in danger for me, what if she’d been shot? I couldn’t live with myself if she had been injured because of me. I’d told her sternly to never do anything like that again and I was still a little miffed that she’d looked at me and crinkled her nose before saying she would do no such thing.
I grinned evilly now thinking about the pay back I had planned for her. She wanted to be claimed and claimed she would be, but I had followed through on my thoughts from a few days ago and bought a pair of velvet lined handcuffs. I let the tears flow as I remembered her being diagnosed, the treatments and hospital visits, the pain she had endured. I started to speak telling her about everything that had been happening and all the changes going on in my life. I turned towards Luc, pushing a stray strand of hair from where the wind blew it against my mouth and smiled at him as I told mama all about him. I had a feeling she would have liked him and she would have loved how crazy he was about me. They had revealed themselves when mama was going through her first chemo treatment and she had be
en so excited.
“Alieeensss” she’d crowed “ I told you there was some, you owe me twenty bucks!” I’d rolled my eyes and smiled, never mind that we had never actually bet on whether or not there had really been other lifeforms out there, I was just excited to have seen that special light come back into her eyes. I’d taken Luc up on his offer to pay of the rest of mama’s hospital bills. I couldn’t deny feeling a bit of vindictive joy as we made that phone call. It was such a relief to have that debt off my shoulders and I can finally breathe easier. I had also told Luc about how my old neighborhood had helped me so much when my mom had just passed and we were currently plotting ways to repay them their kindness. Pay off all their houses? New cars? Cash? Cruises? I haven’t decided yet but it was in the works
Luc came up behind me and wrapping his arms around my waist he placed his chin on my shoulder and we stood there. I looked around taking in the gently swaying trees and hills I could see in the distance, my entire being at peace.
