Val had become an important part of his life. She had a connection with Kek, and when she practiced fighting, learning about her powers, she felt happy. One night, as they were practicing, she looked at Kek, smiling.
“Thank you, Kek,” she told him.
“For what?” he asked.
“For saving me. I mean, I knew you talked to Alina about me, but I would've probably never made it had it not been for you,” she said.
“Really?” he asked.
“Really. I mean, you’ve saved my life. I kind of never want to go back to the dwarves or anything,” she told him.
He nodded. “I understand. I'm glad to have you too,” he said.
The dwarven woman sat on his lap, and she soon turned to him, giving him a kiss. He kissed her back, feeling happy with this. She then pulled away, smiling.
“You know, I'm glad that I left my village when I did. My dad would flip if he found out I had feelings for a kobold,” she teased.
“Well, I'm sure at this point you’re stronger than most of the men in your village, so it shouldn't’ be that much of an issue,” he told her.
“You’re right. Thanks Kek,” she said.
He smiled at her, feeling gracious about this. Kek didn’t want to get married, but he was happy to have the dwarven woman by his side. She had spent the year improving her skills. She was his right-hand woman, and the general of the small militia that they had in case things went sour.
At the end of the practice, he saw a figure that was nearby, someone that he thought he would never see again. He had to rub his eyes for a second.
It was Faye!
When they parted ways a year ago when he started to build the place back up, she said she needed to go see the fairies, which was an understandable thing. They needed to know if the mission got carried out, and the fairies probably wanted her back. She never did tell Kek what she wanted. But then, here she was again, smiling at him. Kek followed her, going behind the village and smiling at her.
“You!” he said.
“Hey Kek. Long time no see,” she told him.
“I could say the same for you. What are you doing here?” he asked.
“I came here because there was something that I wanted to tell you, but I never got a chance to admit it. I’m sorry for leaving you when I did, but I had to take care of a few personal things with the fairies. One of them was the whole mess that I kind of lied to you about,” she said.
“What do you mean?” Kek asked. He had a feeling he knew what it was.
“Well...It was the boyfriend thing. I kind of made that up initially to get you off my back, but I realized I lied, and I felt terrible for doing it after a while. I told them I used the treasure to save you, and of course they asked about the boyfriend, which I told them never existed. The fairies were pissed, but at the same time, they kind of understood why I did what I did. I mean, I'm not used to having that kind of affection for a person. So I came back here,” Faye admitted.
“So what you’re saying is that you like me,” Kek said with a smile.
“Hey, don’t press your luck, kobold. I’m just saying that...I wouldn’t mind staying here with you. And maybe giving you a kiss,” she told him.
Kek smiled at the young fairy. She was always like this, and in a strange way, it was cute. He did miss her. He looked at her and then nodded.
“Then by all means. You’re welcome to stay. I haven't chosen a partner or anything. I don’t feel like I need it. I want to run the village on my own terms,” he said.
“That’s fine. I want to help you as a fairy, and I know that it’s scary, but I'm glad to have done it,” she said. To him.
He then watched as she moved in, pressing her lips to his own, kissing him passionately. He kissed her back, knowing that the fairy wanted this for a long time. The two of them stayed like that for a long time before pulling away, looking at one another and smiling.
“I’m glad to have you back.
“I am too. Is Val doing good?” she asked.
“Course. She’s grown into quite the woman, you know,” he teased.
“Right,” she said, rolling her eyes.
Kek laughed at the fairy’s antics, and she walked away. He followed her to his hut.
Faye stayed there, much to his surprise, and she became the medic of the village. She took care of the ones that got injured or sick, using fairy magic to help. She also worked on a few other things as well.
Kek smiled as he realized he was now the leader of the village, and he had saved everyone. He had accepted his fate with—eventually—open arms. Now was his time to reap the respect and rewards he rightfully deserved. He was no mere slave anymore, that was for sure!
