“Me too,” Remi said, his voice serious now. “Never thought I’d get this lucky in my whole life. I’m hanging on hard as I can.”
Kit’s heart swelled until she thought it would burst from her chest. She was surrounded by everything she’d ever wanted—a home of her own with not just one, but two hot biker men, both of whom were their own men, but who also loved to please her.
“Me too,” she promised them both.
Remi looked like she’d just handed him everything, and Keys pressed a kiss to her face. “That’s good, mama.”
Remi’s stomach growled, loudly. He clapped a hand to his gut. “But first, supper.”
He sat up and looked down at Kit. “What d’you want to eat? Keys chose last night.”
“I don’t care,” she said, sitting up as well. “You choose, and I’ll help fix it.”
“Fuck, not this again,” Keys said. “Babe, make a decision, or he’ll be feedin’ us liver and onions. Swear I saw some in the back of the fridge.”
She grimaced, then hid it. “Uh, that’s fine.”
Remi gave her a look. “Seriously, Kit? I’m the only person I know who likes liver. We’re not getting out of this bed until you choose what’s for dinner.”
She blinked. “Fine, I’m not hungry then.”
Keys gripped her from behind, his arm strong around her middle, his chest warm against her back. “Ah-ah. You’re not goin’ anywhere, butterfly.
“Please,” Remi begged theatrically, clutching his gut. “Choose something. I’m starving here.”
“And not liver, ‘cause I do not like that shit,” Keys added in her ear.
“Um … cheeseburgers?” She knew they had the fixings, and she knew both guys liked them.
Remi cupped his ear as if he couldn’t hear her. “Sorry, what was that?”
Kit had had it with them both. “I want a fucking cheeseburger!” she hollered, her voice reverberating in the quiet room. “All right?”
Remi put his fingers between his teeth and whistled and Keys hugged her, laughing. “Nice job, Red. You can speak up for yourself. Good to know.”
She huffed with disgust at both of them, but she was smiling as she slid off the bed. Hard to stay mad at two guys who just wanted to give her what she wanted.
Remi made a big salad, Keys grilled up huge cheeseburgers for them, Kit buttered buns and toasted them lightly on the grill while she set the oak table, and they ate their supper there, with a warm evening breeze blowing in the windows.
Keys cleaned his plate and seeing Kit was done, urged her over into his chair on his lap while Remi finished eating.
“So Red, why d’you think you have such a hard time asking for shit?” he asked her, his voice gentle.
Remi gave her an encouraging look. Kit shrugged, concentrating on playing with Keys’ leather bracelet.
“I don’t know. I’ll try to do better at it, sorry. I—I know I’m kind of flighty.”
“Okay, enough.” Keys gave her a squeeze, his brows drawn together. “You are not flighty, Red. You’re one of the quickest learners I’ve ever met. You’re a whiz with numbers, computers, machinery. And you’re a hard worker. Even when you were pissed at me, you set up my books like a pro.”
Remi nodded, leaning over the table toward them. “What you are, is a survivor, Kit. Not gonna trash your mom, but she’s been dragging you around your whole life as if the two of you were in foster care, biker-style. You’re adaptable, you’re tough, you can do without a lot of shit most people think they gotta have.”
“Like you,” she said, reaching up to take his hand. He twined his long, capable fingers with hers.
“Yeah,” he agreed. “We didn’t have it easy growing up, but now we’re calling the shots for our own lives. And that’s all you have to do, Kit. Live your life. Be happy.”
“And what you gotta get, Red,” Keys added, “Is that—just you bein’ happy, that’s all it takes to make me happy, right there.”
“And me,” Remi added. He shoved his chair back and came to crouch close to them, his arms over their legs.
“Really?” she whispered. She was used to watching the women in her life scurrying constantly to wait on their men, and please them, just to keep their place. Especially her mom.
“Yeah,” Keys insisted, his voice full of sureness. “We’re livin’ the sweet life here, mama. We’ve all come through hard times, now we’re together. None of us have to work to deserve it. This sweetness is ours, just for being together.”
“Like honey for nothin’,” Remi said.
Kit laughed. “And two guys for free.”
Keys nodded. “You got it, mama. Now, you getting’ this, or do we need to keep talking?”
She leaned in, pressing her forehead against his cheek, and breathed in his scent, smelling of his own sexy musk, and Remi and herself. She and Remi exchanged a smile.
“You can stop talking,” she said. “I think I’ve got it.”
“Good,” Keys said. “Then you can choose again. D’you wanna get the bikes out and hit the open road, ride down the lake? Or d’you wanna take your men back to bed?”
She so had this one. “Are you kidding me? I want it all!”
