Chapter 1
~Year~2231
-Evicka
"Evie!" I snap up from my bed to see my mother standing near my door, "They're here. You need to come with me, NOW!"
My mother's white irises glower like two iridescent orbs, her shoulder-blade length brown hair is pulled back into a tight ponytail. She is wearing her hunter's garb, tight black leather pants, knee-high ebony boots, and it appears like she has just recently thrown on her under tank-top.
"Mom..." my voice trails off as I reach for my clothes.
"No, Evie," My mother strides into the room and grasps my upper arm, pulling me out the door and down the hallway, "we don't have time sweetheart."
I am still in my purple and black silk PJ's as we hit the top landing of the staircase. Killian is looming next to the bookcase, his jet-black hair coming to his chin on one side and shaved close to the skin on the other. My mother hands me off to him, his green irises flashing to a bloody red.
"Hide her," My mother orders as I attempt to pull away from Killian.
"Mom!" She stops for a moment and turns around, kneeling to my height. She smiles at me as she folds a strand of my winter white hair behind my ear.
"Evie," she speaks in a low tone, "it will be alright," she then glances up toward Killian and continues, "you will be safe with Killian."
"But," I start shaking, "the vampires..."
"Sweetheart, don't worry," my mother hushes me and pulls me into a warm embrace. My mother then pulls me back at arm's length and gazes deeply into my eyes as I investigate hers, "I will find you."
"Mom!" I scream as she rises to her feet, making her way to the front door of the house with several other hunters. Killian pulls back a book and the bookcase slides open, revealing a titanium safe room with soundproof walls.
"Evie, come on," Killian is trying to wrestle me into the room, the strength I have for such a young age reflecting my heritage as a pureblood vampire.
"Bu-" Killian cuts me off, dragging me into the room. I watch past his waist as my mother grips a silver dagger in her right hand. She slices open the palm of her hand, and I am awestruck as the blood trickles around her body, little streams weaving their way around her.
Instantly, the bookcase seals shut. I glare angrily up at Killian and growl, "Why don't you help her!"
"That is not my fight," Killian narrows his emerald eyes at me while continuing with, "that is not your fight. The rogue vampires are after you and your mother."
"But, why?!" I slam my fist against his stomach, and a small groan leaves his lips.
"When you are older, you will understand," he smirks and states, "your mother gave you orders, and she expects you to follow them."
"I know that," I roll my eyes sarcastically and huff as I fold my arms in front of my chest.
We can't hear anything, and neither can anyone from the outside. My mother had said, should the rogues' attack, to continue training and killing vampires and the purebloods that reign over them.
I'm a walking hypocrite.
I stomp over to the other side of the room, kicking the wall.
"You have a temper, just like your father," Killian chuckles while marveling at me.
My mother and I were taken away to a safe house when I was two. I don't remember my father. No one would say anything about him unless it was about something I did.
I'm six now, and I'm still being kept in the dark.
The one thing I do know is that the coven leaders do not like my mother, and they want me dead. I'm offensive to them, my very existence shouldn't be allowed to exist within this world.
I'm not supposed to be here...
"Why won't you tell me about him!" I turn around, shooting him my best death glare.
Killian tilts his head to the side, amusement playing across his eyes, "It's safer for you to remain in the dark."
I don't know what he means, but I trust my mother.
The world around me isn't safe for myself, the vampire hunters, or the humans. My mother is at the top of everyone's kill list, and my father apparently hid us away from the ones who want us dead...until now.
I know that if Killian told me who my father is, I would just go and search for him...and apparently, that will put everyone at risk.
Killian is my protector and my life force. My mom told me to never bite a human or another hunter, or I could kill them.
That's the last thing I want...
Killian slides down the wall of the sanctuary and motions for me to come to him. I'm still upset, but watch him with my whitish blue irises, reluctantly coming to stand in front of him. I'm still tired from being woken up abruptly, and he knows this.
I fall into his lap, cuddling into his chest. He holds me in his strong arms, whispering, "Evie, your mother will be okay."
"I know..."
**
"Evicka, where the hell do you think you are going!" Killian growls at me as I walk to the main entrance of the house we reside within. I whip my head around, my long white hair encircling around me as I shot him a mischievous look.
"Wouldn't you like to know," I laugh, turning back toward the door. I'm wearing a long black dress with a corset style bust, my black-heeled boots beneath it.
"Yes, I actually would!" He takes the final two steps to close our distance. I roll my eyes, his dark hair spiked up.
His eyes flicker with rage as I throw my hair over my shoulder and sigh, "I am going to the new auction at the pet shop."
"Why?" He holds my gaze.
"Because I have heard, they have what I want," I narrow my eyes at him.
Killian replies with frustration, "Don't you have enough yet?"
"You can never have one too many when you're building a small army," I scoff at him. I open the large oak door, stunned momentarily as Killian throws a cloak at the back of my head.
"After two hundred years...you think you would remember," he growls like a parent speaking to me as a child.
"Isn't that why I have you?" I grimace as I had almost forgotten. I throw the dark clock over my shoulders, gathering my snowy white hair and tucking it back as I bring the hood over my head. There are only a handful of purebloods in this world, and drawing attention to myself is something Killian is not fond of.
I'm told I look like my father but, I have my mother's heart and her unique ability. I take off out the door, meeting the warm night air of the Australian outback.
Has it really been two hundred years?
In all this time, I have not had any contact with my mother. She had been taken by one of the coven leaders, but I didn't know which. Rogue vampires work for them, keeping tabs on powerful, rising vampires.
I had stopped aging when my appearance reached twenty-four. For Killian, that had been twenty-eight.
This is one of the main reason Killian does not approve of me leaving the house. He still treats me like a child, but I'm far from it now. He knows I'm raising a small army of hunters. They are far and few during this day and age. Over the past five years, I have rescued two.
Trained right and working together, two can mow down vampires, especially with my own help. On the other hand, I'm sure how well they would ever fair against a pureblood.
I'm not your typical one...except for my apparent temper...annnnnd not getting what I want, especially when you are being watched like a hawk by Killian...that is all the time.
I heard rumors of a young hunter being sold at an auction today. I didn't want to miss the chance to rescue just one more hunter.
As I approach the doors, I'm ushered right in, not having to worry about being checked like the humans.
I take a seat at the back, keeping my distance from unwanted eyes as a few drift my way. You see, not many female vampires show up to an auction. This is more of a man's scene where females send individuals in their stead. Sources tell me though that this
hunter is a young male, and there should be no reason for any male vampires to bid on him.
Unless his tastes fancy that.
I cross one of my legs over the other, leaning forward in my seat as the auction commences.
"Welcome! Gentlemen and...Ladies," The auctioneer begins with such enthusiasm.
"Our first pet up for sale is Aviana!" The auctioneer pauses as a beautiful female human is brought out onto the stage. She has lovely blonde hair, her delicate features already capturing the attention of the vampires near me. Her eyes are downcast as she kneels on the floor in the center of the stage.
"Aviana is eighteen years old with an O+ blood type," I can practically hear the drooling coming from the crowd around me.
"Here's a bonus, she's a virgin!" The auctioneer grins to the crowd, knowing the taste of her blood will be that much sweeter being untainted.
Well, that just sends everyone into a frenzy.
Most human girls are taken off the streets, sexually assaulted and then taken to these shops to be sold. Eh, it doesn't really matter to me, I'm using them in a manner such as that.
The thought makes me chuckle.
"What's so funny?" A seductive voice announces the presences of a vampire seated beside me.
I keep my hood in place as I reply, "Funny how you all jump at the opportunity to take a young girl."
"Why are you here then?" He hisses through his teeth.
I coldly replied, "I've set my sights...on something special."
"Please," the vampire scoffs at me and turns his attention back to the bidding war that had started while I wasn't paying attention.
"$2,000,000," the vampire beside me shouts, perhaps somewhat proving a point.
"Do I hear, $2.5? No? Going once, going twice. SOLD!" The auctioneer announces as the girl is taken from the stage to be prepared for her new master.
"Looks like that virgin is mine," he slips me a sly look as if it matters to me.
"Eat your heart out," I roll my eyes and avert my attention back to the stage, "I'm sure that the status of hers won't last for very long."
I can hear his faint growl, but I shut him out as I notice a male being brought out onto the stage. I lean further forward, placing my fingertips together as I find myself deep in thought.
Is this him?
He is shoved forcefully to his knees, his brown hair tousled. I see him move ever so slightly...
...I wouldn't do that if I were you.
The auctioneer growls and takes hold of the back of his head, raising his face to the crowd. A set of angry growls emanate from around me, vampires standing to their feet in rage. However...
...I remain quiet.
That's him.
"Next," the auctioneer begins, "we have an exotic pet just waiting to be bought for the individual up for the challenge. His name is Zak, and he is twenty-two...a hunter with an O- blood type. I'm sorry to say, we can't errr...uh, determine his virginity status."
"Fuck off!" Zak spits with such hatred at the auctioneer.
Oh my...you are just what I have been waiting for. Someone to lead the other two.
"Who would want that!" One of the vampires hisses as if the hunter's very presence is displeasing to everyone, baring his fangs in the process.
"That's right! Only King Locaine was ever able to control a hunter," the vampire who bought Aviana growls beside me.
Looks like I rival this King Locaine, already having two. I don't treat them like pets or slaves...no they have a much higher calling.
"That's right, I dare you," Zak glares at the crowd, challenging every vampire in the room to even dare bid on him.
If you must...
I release a sigh, knowing no one else in their right mind would ever bid against me even if it were for a single dollar, however...I want to make a statement...so I announce, "$3,000,000."
A deathly silence falls on the crowd, even Zak is quiet, in complete shock at what I've just bid.
"Mistress...are you sure?" The auctioneer is hesitant, not entirely sure if I'm seriously bidding on Zak let alone that much money.
"Did I stutter?" I ask while arching a brow, crossing my arms beneath my breasts.
"N-no," The auctioneer continues, "do I hear $3.5? No? Going once, going twice. SOLD!"
Excellent.
There is no reason for me to stay, I already know where to pay and collect him.
As I pass other vampires in the crowd, I receive some questionable glances, but I hold my ground, making my way to the lower levels.
"Thank you, Mistress," the woman at the counter holds out her hand as I withdrew my card. Thankfully, it is untraceable, under a separate name and account...Killian had made sure of that, but I often wonder who it is being assigned to for the funds.
"Get your hands off of me!" I can hear Zak flexing his extraordinary hunter strength as he comes into view from around the corner.
"Here, Mistress," The vampire hands me a leash attached to a collar, which is in turn clasped around Zak's neck. I release a sigh of irritation...
...I really don't care for this but, it will be the only way to get him home without running away...or pissing me off.
I take the leash and command, "Let's go."
"I'm not going anywhere with you..." he spits at me with venom.
If you can just hold your tongue until we are home...
I glare at him underneath my hood, tolerating a lot, but if Zak causes me to reveal who I am, I won't hesitate to kill him.
I value my life over that of any of my hunters.
"NOW!" I yell at him. I can see him shake slightly.
Slightly.
We exit the building, heading in the direction of our sanctuary. He is quiet, keeping up with my pace quite well.
After a while, I turn the corner to reveal my familiar home, walking until I reach the oak wood doors and pull them back.
"Go," I tell him, and Zak continues to glare at me, shoving past me into the main entrance.
Once we are inside, I close the door, turning to him and remove the filthy leash, tossing it casually to the floor.
"I am NOT yours!" Zak unexpectedly strikes at me, hitting me square in the face. Anger rushes through my veins as Killian bounds into the room.
I snatch the front part of my hood and tear it off my head, unclasping the cloak and casting it to the ground. My eyes narrow on him, turning from a bluish white to a black rose.
"Yo-you're a pureblood..." Zak's voice trails off as he hesitates to take in my appearance.
"Evicka?" Janie is now standing to the side of me, casting her dark hair with dyed red streaks over her shoulders. She oversees Zak's movements with those white irises of hers.
"What?!" Zak cries out, "Another hunter..." I can see the confusion slipping past his eyes. This is not at all what he was expecting.
"I heard a yell," Rainier halts near Zak, his blonde hair is in a mess and appears slightly damp.
Zak whirls around to look at Rainier and shots me a dirty look, "Wait...another...another hunter? What the hell?! You are sick...you collect us?!"
"No," I reply firmly.
Apparently, Zak managed to conceal a weapon while he was staying at the pet shop, as he throws a knife at lightning fast speed. I tilt my head to the side, the blade scraping the side of my face as it sails by.
Nice throw...you really are quite strong and trained well. But not well enough if you managed to get caught.
"I'll kill you..." he hisses as Rainier arches his eyebrows, staring at me and waiting for my orders.
Janie rolls her white irises, facepalming and then crossing her arms, observing Zak.
"That's quite enough from you," my fangs creep from my parted lips, and I see the fear edge into the corner of his eyes. I twirl the tips of my fingers, the few stray drops of blood that had managed to fall from the cut he had given me I send directly toward his throat.
I halt my actions as it touches his skin, needle-like blades ready to pierce on my command.
r /> "I-I-I don't understand..." Zak's voice is full of confusion.
Killian releases a sigh, irritated with Zak already as he informs him, "You are looking at the only pureblood vampire huntress to ever exist. She also...possesses blood magic."
"I-I can see that," Zak falls to his knees. My eyes softening, and I release my hold of the blood, my eyes reverting back to a whitish blue.
"My name is Evicka..." I inform him before I toss in his direction while reaffirming, "I couldn't agree with you more...you are not mine. Welcome to your sanctuary, hunter."
