I almost mentioned him possibly impregnating Brooke, but I remembered that Cassie was doing whatever the hell she was doing with Kordell, and I was sure Kordell didn’t know anything about Shai possibly fathering his unborn child. It would have been an altercation heard around the world if he did.

“Then what’s the plan? How did you get over Tarik? You have to do the same thing.”

“I got over Tarik the second I found out he gave me a disease. And my relationship with Tarik wasn’t anything like the one I had with Shai. With Tarik, I felt like all we did was have sex, eat, and argue,” I said, making both Cassie and I chuckle. “Shai and I were like homies, who had sex, ate, and sometimes bickered. I liked that better. He was more than just my boyfriend.”

“Sounds like true love to me,” Cassie said sarcastically, shoving a grape into her mouth.

“I just think I need time by myself and I will be fine. I came out here to work, not to fall in love with some crazy ass producer.”

  “Don’t forget sexy.”

“Thanks, Cass. That will really help me.”

  “Anytime.”

I gathered my things and headed to the bathroom. After brushing, flossing, and rinsing with Listerine, I got into the shower. Once I was clean, I remembered I hadn’t washed my face and it was because my mind was elsewhere; namely on Mischief. I so badly wanted to take the weak bitch way out and just text him saying that I loved him and wanted to be in his presence tonight. But I was never fond of being weak.

The one good thing I got from my mother was to never allow a man to walk all over me. I realized she just used that as an excuse as to why my father had left her. She wanted me to believe she put him out before I was born. When I saw the way she defended her boyfriend, even after catching him on top of me and attempting to tug at my panties, I knew her speeches were bullshit. She didn’t practice what she preached at all. But just because she let Martin, her boyfriend, make a fool out of her, didn’t mean I was gonna allow Shai to do me the same way. I’m sure I would find someone new to love when I was ready.

I walked into the bedroom wearing my towel, and saw Rita, Cassie, and Kady chatting. When Kady saw me, she hopped up and neared my bed where I was putting on body oil.

“I know someone that likes yoooou!” she sang, biting down on her lip.

  “And I don’t caarrrrre!”

“He’s sexier than Mischief,” Rita rolled her eyes while she texted on her phone.

“I don’t know about all that, but he is cute and he told me to pass his number along. Do you wanna know who it is?” Kady grinned, retying her bikini top.

  “No, I—”

  “Shit, I do,” Cassie blurted.

“Rico. Girl, I don’t know what you said to him, but he damn near begged me to give you his number. And trust me, Rico is not the thirsty type at all.”

When she said that I was kind of surprised because I hadn’t said two words to the nigga before Mischief popped up and ended my whole outing. And to be perfectly honest, I didn’t know how I was going to date, if I wanted to, with Mischief on my bumper like that. It unfortunately turned me on a little to see him act that way about me, but I knew if I met someone I really liked, I would be furious.

“I don’t know, Kady. Isn’t Mischief working with him and Nuzi?”

“Just Nuzi. Rico is his manager and best friend.”

“Shit, if she don’t want Rico’s fine ass, I will take him,” Rita chimed in.

“And what about Cardio?” I quizzed.

I didn’t really care if she dated Rico because sadly, my heart was still with Shai Tayler Benjamin. Only reason I asked was because all this time I wondered what she saw their relationship as. I asked Mischief how Cardio felt, and he told me that Cardio said she was like his best friend who he fucked; nothing more. Truthfully, I expected him to say she was some cum bucket, so I was surprised that he called her a best friend.

“Cardio and I will be fine. He ain’t got to know about Rico and I. I’ve fucked with plenty of niggas and he knows nothing about them.”

“Take the number, Laine,” Kady turned to me after chuckling and shaking her head at Rita.

“No, Kady. And don’t give him mine. There is nothing wrong with Rico, but right now I’m trying to just be alone. I went straight from my ex to Mischief. I think a break will help me when I need to choose a better man next time.”

“Plus, she may look like an industry hoe if she starts fucking with Rico this soon. You know for black women all they need is two niggas in the same field to connect you to before they start calling you a hoe,” Cassie shook her head.

“Ain’t that the truth. A white girl can fuck a whole football team and still become a governor’s wife. Shit, let one of us do some shit like that, we’d be called hoes until the day we died.” Kady sucked her teeth as she smoothed down her already laid edges.

“Preach!” I laughed and hi-fived Kady.

The four of us talked for a little longer before making plans to go to dinner tonight. Being around them made me really miss Erynne, which reminded me to check on her and make sure she was still coming in a few weeks.

I’d found a nice little apartment that was within the budget, so I was in the process of getting Erynne in. Okay, maybe it wasn’t quite in budget since it was over here in West Hollywood, but Mischief’s uncle Gordon owned the building and agreed to work with me.

Only reason Mischief didn’t live in the nice ass building was because he was so damn self-sufficient. He hated for anyone to help him or say they gave him something. I smiled thinking about him as I covered my lips in lipstick. I loved his stupid cheating ass so much… but not for long.

I was finally getting home from my meeting, and feeling a lot better. The meeting was for me to do a photo shoot for this hair extension company. The hair was really good shit, and I was so happy I was gonna be getting hair and installation free of charge. I’d been wearing my natural hair for a while now, and even though it was right under my shoulder blades and wavy, I missed my tailbone length.

As I walked through the foyer of the mansion to go freshen up before dinner tonight, I heard some of the girls in the den to my right, talking. It sounded like they were trying to whisper, so being the person that I am, I moved closer so I could listen. I saw Farrah, Amelia, and Donna talking lowly to one another, while sitting in various spots on the couch.

“I asked if they were serious and she told me no basically,” Farrah said, and I assumed she was talking about me. Lying bitch knows I didn’t say that.

“So what if they were? These niggas are for everybody and when we go to that function, I’m shooting my shot at Mischief.” Donna laughed with her tongue out as she slapped hands with Farrah and Amelia.

“I mean, if they were actually something, wouldn’t she be pregnant by now? I know I would!” Farrah whispered loudly.

“Right? Poking holes in that damn condom and everything,” Amelia laughed.

“But when her jaw drops from seeing me on that nigga’s arm, I want y’all to record it for me. And a bitch like me will be pregnant in record time.” Donna threw her hair over her shoulder.

“In case you hyenas were wondering, Mischief and I are very serious and I’m currently carrying his baby. Let me know if you think of some names,” I grinned and they just stared at me with their mouths ajar. I turned to leave but then faced them again. “Oh, and be glad that I’m with child because otherwise, I would whoop your asses.” I winked.

I wanted to fight them so badly, but what I wanted more, was for them to believe I was pregnant. Why? Because I was boiling listening to them. Just the thought of one of them getting pregnant by Mischief, especially after I lost our baby, aggravated me to no end. Cassie was right, this shit was gonna be hard. Oh, but make no mistake; if I saw either one of them sniffing around Mischief, girlfriend and fake baby or not, I was fucking them up.

He wasn’t gonna be the only one ruining someone’s game.

Mischief, Kordell, Ishmael, and I were in the studio listening back to the new song we’d just recorded. Since Ishmael had gotten a pretty good relationship with a few radio stations, we wanted to record a new banger for them to play. As I’d predicted, this radio shit got us twice the amount of performance bookings and exposure, so Ishmael wanted to put this track up for sale and see how it fared.

“Shit is dope,” Kordell bobbed his head as he inhaled on his blunt.

“All three of y’all went hard. This beat though, Mischief,” Ishmael commented, turning up his bottle of beer and gulping some down.

“Aight, cool. Since everything sounds good, I’ll go ahead and start cleaning it all up, and then have you guys back in here to listen.”

I sat back and smiled for a minute, happy as hell because I knew this song was gonna do numbers. We’d had low-key hits before, but they were free tracks so the only profit we really got was from our shows, making it indirect. The fact that this song was gonna be a hit and be a purchase only track had me feeling overjoyed. And most importantly, my wife would be happy to hear that shit. She’d been in a terrible ass mood lately, and I assumed it was due to her pregnancy. However, money making always made her feel good, so I couldn’t wait to share the good ass news.

Speaking of the devil, my phone rang and I looked down to see it was Jade.

“Give me a second,” I said before stepping out into the hallway.

“You good, baby?” Something must have been wrong because she never called me these days. If I didn’t hit her line, we wouldn’t even talk until I got home.

“No, can you come home like now?” Her voice was shaky, so it was obvious that she’d been crying or was about to cry.

“Jade, I’m kind of busy right now. Like busy as fuck. Tell me what’s up. I don’t wanna wait until I get there anyway.”

“It’s about the baby,” she whimpered.

I swear my heart stopped as I stared at the red wall in the hallway. The sound of music coming from the other rooms seemed to drown out as I thought about losing my child. Granted I wasn’t too happy that Jade was pregnant to begin with, but my baby had nothing to do with our marital problems.

“Fuck, damn. I’ll be home in like twenty minutes. Let me just tell these niggas I have to go.”

  “Okay, I love you.”

After a few moments of silence, and dumbly contemplating if I should say it back, I replied, “Yeah, I love you too, babe.”

I quickly hung up as if I felt like Jade would call me out for my dwindling ass feelings. Slipping my iPhone into my jean’s pocket, I entered my brother’s studio room and ran my hand across my neck to tell him to cut the music.

“You aight?” Kordell quizzed, I guess being able to read my facial expression.

“Nah, I have to go. Jade said something is wrong with my kid, and umm, shit. I’ll see y’all niggas tomorrow.” I snatched my hoodie from the couch along with my keys, and darted out before any of them could respond.

Peeling out of the parking lot, I made a right and hopped on the freeway to get to my crib in Long Beach. It was a Thursday and almost seven o’clock, so the 405 was slightly crowded but clearing up some since rush hour was coming to an end. I let the windows down in my car to feel the cool breeze as I inhaled on the blunt I’d somehow lit while driving. I needed to calm my damn nerves so that I’d be able to deal with whatever Jade was about to tell me.

When I got to my crib, I parked on the street instead of in the garage because I was in a rush. I damn near broke the door off the hinges going into my apartment, flying to the bedroom my wife was in. Jade was sitting up in the bed with her back against the headboard, and the covers up to her stomach. When she lifted her head to look me in the eye, I saw hers were bloodshot red and her cheeks were stained with tears.

  “Talk to me.”

I sat down on the edge of the bed so that I was next to her, and caressed her thigh. She peeled the covers back, and climbed into my lap. Tightening my grip around her slim waist as she straddled me, I hugged her tightly and kissed her neck, which smelled like some sweet girly shit.

  “It’s gone, Chaz.”

“Gone? Fuck you mean it’s gone? How?” I yanked her from my body so roughly she almost fell out of my lap.

Scanning my eyes as if she were trying to gauge how angry I was, she stuttered, “Wh-what do you mean how, Cha—”

“It didn’t just fucking disappear, Jade!” I moved her from my lap and sat her on the bed before I stood up. “Now I’m gon’ ask yo’ ass again and you bet not act like you don’t understand me.” Leaning down into her face and pressing my fists into the bed to prop me up, I asked, “How is my baby gone? And tread lightly with yo’ answer.”

This shit was killing me already and she hadn’t even been pregnant that long. Something in my heart was telling me she caused this bullshit.

  “I mi-miscarried the—”

“When?” I asked before she even finished her sentence all the way.

“A few days ago, but I didn’t say anything because I was so upset and I knew you’d be mad at me!” she cried loudly as I began to pace slowly in front of her.

I didn’t know shit about miscarriages, but I’d seen that shit in a couple of movies. Jade and I came home to one another every night, except that time I stayed in the hotel with Erynne. By saying that, I felt like I would have seen something or noticed that she’d lost the baby.

“Chaz, don’t be mad. We can try again.”

“You really want to? You really want to try again for another baby? Is that where we’re at in this relationship? You can’t even get off your ass to come to a show of mine and you think I’m gonna purposely shoot a kid up in you?”

Her face went through a series of facial expressions as I spoke. She started off sad and now she was obviously angry, but I didn’t give a fuck. She was out of her monkey ass mind if she thought I was about to get her ass pregnant in the midst of this disastrous ass marriage.

“This is why we don’t get a long anymore, Chaz. You never used to talk to me this way. And your brothers, you think I don’t see the way they look at me? They hate me and you don’t even try to make them like me,” she sobbed. “That’s why I don’t come to your shows and shit!”

“I can’t make them niggas do shit, Jade. You think I like every bitch they bring around me? No I don’t! But they’re grown and I’m grown, so I don’t get in their ass about who they wanna rock with and they treat me the same.” I sat down next to her on the bed, and kissed her shoulder. I could feel the goosebumps on her body rise against my lips. “I’m sorry, I ain’t mean to talk to you that way, baby. I was just getting into the zone about being a father. So hearing this and it coming out of left field fucked my mind up. But as far as us not being in the space to have a baby, I stand by that.”

I draped my arm over her shoulder and brought her into me. The light from outside even though it was dark, illuminated her vanilla complexion. And for the first time in weeks, I found myself turned on by the sight of her. The way her smooth thighs looked in the short nightgown had my dick rising. Excited about being horny for my wife and not Erynne, I laid Jade on her back and spread her legs. She was confused, but I didn’t care; I had to get this nut off to prove something. I quickly unbuckled my jeans to remove my dick, and slid inside of her. I knew I didn’t want us to make a baby just yet, but I hadn’t craved her in so long that I needed to do this now.

“Ahh, ahh!” she cried out as I pumped into her feverishly.

“Shit,” I groaned, pounding her pussy as hard as could, knowing I was on the verge of cumming.

I didn’t care if I busted before her. For the first time in a long time, this sex session was about me proving to myself that I could make things work with my wife. Sex wasn’t everything, but it was a big part of a relationship. Not to mention it was one of the last few things Jade and I had been able to agree on for the past eight months. I knew if we lost that, there would be no turning back. So excuse me
if I’m just trying to get my wife to make me nut, versus actually pleasing her.

“Ahhh!” we both shouted at the top of our lungs as we exploded together.

Falling down onto her soft body, I pinned her hands above her head and sucked her neck while I was still inside. Her chest rose and fell rapidly, as she locked her ankles around me.

This was a monumental ass moment for me right now. It could only be up from here… hopefully.

  Jade Benjamin

I woke up feeling sore down below from the session Chaz and I had endured last night. We went at it for hours, something we hadn’t done in weeks. Sex was all we had at this point, so I was happy that we could come back together on that. Our bed had been sexless for the past two weeks because he just was never in the mood; so last night was a breakthrough.

Sitting up, I threw the covers off of me and then went into the bathroom so I could brush my teeth. Once I was done, I ran myself a hot bath with some bubbles so I could relax. I planned to tell Chaz I had to work today, even though I didn’t, but after last night I’d changed my mind.

Just yesterday morning, I was over trying to make things work with Chaz, especially since we weren’t sleeping together, but now I smiled at the thought of he and I getting back to where we were. I was just gonna try harder, going back to how I used to be when I was his biggest fan and was always there for him. I not only missed our marriage, but our friendship.

Standing up, I let the bathwater out and then washed my body under the showerhead. When I got out, I took care of my face, and then went into the bedroom to throw on a simple dress and some sexy panties. Hopefully I could convince Chaz to stay home with me all day so we could continue last night. I smiled at him moving in his sleep, with the sheets and comforter at his waist, exposing his chiseled chest and abs, which were free from tattoos. His short shiny curly hair, which never seemed to look dull, was a mess, but he was still so handsome.

“Good morning, honey,” I smiled and leaned up against the dresser as I removed my headscarf to allow my fresh weave to fall to my waist.
