  “Many girls want dukes, Miss Prestwick. Indeed, I should say all girls would like one. Why should you get your duke?”

  Penelope Prestwick smiled, and with a tilt of her dark head said, “Because, Lady Dalby, I can afford one.”

  Sophia nearly laughed out loud. She didn’t, but it was a near thing.

  “Darling, we are going to get along famously.”
