Is it her blood? wondered Alexander. Her blood must taste very delicious like the scent I am getting. I think I should partake of a sip.

Without a second thought, Alexander ran towards the girl at his fast pace. As soon as he stood next to the girl, he stopped for a while. The girl was in so deep of thought that she couldn't feel someone standing behind her. How would she when Alexander was not even a mortal being?

Alexander's green eyes turned red in thirst for her blood. His red eyes were glowing, and he let his fangs out. He was about to remove the few strands of the girl's hair, covering her neck where he was seeking a nice meal.

As he was about to do that, the girl took a deep breath. Suddenly, the weather started changing—a strong wind started blowing, creating a stressful environment. However, due to the wind, the girl's dark brown hair fell on Alexander's face, who was standing just behind her. He inhaled her addictive smell one more time, his fangs disappearing all of a sudden. The scent seemed delicious, but something stopped him from biting her. And he had no idea what it was.

Alexander could sense that she would turn around now. Instantly, he closed his eyes and chanted something, which made him go invisible. Only the vampires at least 200 years of age could make themselves invisible. Alexander had reached that particular milestone a few months ago.

The girl turned around, facing Alexander, he was shocked seeing the pale-skinned simple looking girl. When his green orbs met her grey ones, he recognized the girl instantly. It was Becca Hertford, for whom he was sent to the human world.

Why didn't Pristine give me Becca's address? How the fuck would I know where she lived? Alexander pondered as he took stock of the girl in front of him.

Becca arched an eyebrow in his direction and spoke the next words, which left Alexander dumbfounded.

  "What are you doing here?"

  Chapter 3: Weather Change

Alexander was bewildered at the question Becca asked. He didn't move an inch, instead, he maintained his rigid invisible posture, thinking Becca was talking to someone else.

Becca glanced at the brunette guy, wearing a long black coat that reached up to his knees. She saw his entire body stiffen, his fair skin going even paler.

"I asked, what are you doing here?" Becca repeated the question, which was clearly directed to Alexander, who gave her a blank stare. "I am talking to you, you know, the green-eyed brunette guy standing in front of me."

Alexander delicately arched an eyebrow and asked, "Can you see me?"

Becca rolled her eyes, hearing him. "Of course, I can see you. Why wouldn’t I?"

He was astonished after hearing her answer, but he tried to act nonchalantly. How could a simple human see him despite Alexander using his powers? He was certain he said the incantation perfectly to be invisible, which had never failed him before, in this realm or his own. No vampires could see him if he turned invisible. Then how was it possible that Becca could see him? Was it because of the potion she had within her?

Obviously, thought Alexander, this average girl can see me through my invisibility power, great!

"Hello? How did you get inside the manor? How did you even use this street? Did my dad give you permission?" she fired question after question at Alexander, snapping him out of his thoughts.

He placed his hands in the pocket of his coat. The strong wind had lessened by then, though it was still chilly.

"Why do I need to answer you?" retorted Alexander.

Becca placed her hands on her hips, not caring a bit for his haughty tone. "Why wouldn't you? You are in my manor, looking as shifty as can be, and you are roaming around as if you own the street which you don't. My father owns it."

He rolled his eyes and spoke up, "If I intended on buying anything, I would buy the entire human world."

She was confused hearing the weird stranger's reply. Why would someone appear in front of her out of nowhere?

As Becca was about to respond further, hearing the faint footsteps coming closer, Alexander whispered in her ear, sending shivers dancing down her spine, "Look at the moon."

Suddenly, she glanced at the moon as if someone hypnotized her. It was against her will, yet she obeyed him. While she looked at the moon, Alexander made his way towards the bushes and hid there. "Well, at least I could hypnotize her," he mumbled under his breath.

Shier stepped out of the house within a few seconds and hollered from the porch, "What are you doing outside at this hour without my permission?"

Becca shuddered at the sudden intrusion. Her head snapped in her father's direction only to find Shier throwing daggers at her with his blue eyes.

  "Dad, I—"

"Shut up, Becca." Shier approached her and grabbed her arm tightly. "Were you talking to anyone else before I came out here?"

Alexander was watching everything from the bushes. He was still using his invisibility power, just to be extra safe which worked. When Shier scanned around the front yard and his eyes fell on the bushes, he didn't even realize a vampire was watching him.

Becca wanted to tell Shier about the weird brunette she saw earlier, but she was about to move to the dorm the next day. If she told her father about the weird stranger, he might stop her from going to the dorm which would lock her freedom away forever; it was the last thing Becca wanted.

She was a practiced liar thanks to her father's abusive nature about which she couldn't tell anyone about. She couldn't even make proper friends because of Shier.

Becca's heart was telling her to look at the bushes all of a sudden. She didn't want to at first but ended up listening to her heart as she glanced at the bushes. When she did, she saw Alexander hiding behind it. She could easily notice his huge muscular body.

If I save him today, maybe one day he can be a good friend of mine, pondered Becca. So, she lied straight through her teeth, "No, Dad. I didn't see or talk to anyone."

The weather started changing once again. This time, the familiar lightning occurred without sound. The lightning was only occurring above Hertford Manor, which indicated that Shier was angry at Becca and she would get beaten once again.

"Well, now it's time for your punishment. Why didn't you ask for my permission before stepping out of the house?" Shier uttered and Becca became quiet instantly.

She knew that whatever she did, she would definitely get battered by her father even though she was an adult. She had nothing under her control as long as she lived in the same place as Shier Hertford, she never would.

"Follow me," ordered Shier and walked towards the house, Becca following him meekly.

Alexander was surprised at the sudden change of the weather. He had never seen that type of weather in the vampire world. He didn't fail to notice the only inaudible lightning over Hertford Manor while the other houses on the other streets had a clear sky.

Before going inside, Becca turned to the bushes for the last time. Seeing Alexander, who thought Becca couldn't see him because he used more power to be invisible this time, Becca gave a smile with her dimples popping out. The smile wasn't a happy one, rather it was a sad one, clamoring for help.

As soon as Alexander saw that, he had a sudden urge to help her, which he barely controlled. Why should I help her? She is a fucking human. Damn, this human world is driving me crazy, thought Alexander.

Alexander knew that he had to find a delicious meal to enjoy in the human world, instead of thinking about the situation which had occurred a few minutes ago. I couldn't taste her succulent blood. Some other time then, he thought. He got up from behind the bushes after watching the duo going inside the house.

He was about to go and hunt but stopped when another thought suddenly stuck in his mind. I should help her because she has the potion which my brother needs. If I help her, she will willingly give me the potion herself when I ask her about it, Alexander mused, this sounds like the perfect solution.

All of a sudden, Alexander jumped on the door of the manor, and at that instant, he was pushed backward. His back had hit the hu
ge gate surrounding Hertford Manor.

"What the actual fuck?" Alexander let out.

He tried to do the same thing again a few times, and the result was the same. When he walked slowly towards the house, he stretched out a hand to see the house was fully protected by a spell. It was a strong spell that prevented every creature but human beings from entering the house.

"That Shier Hertford is not what he pretends to be," Alexander told himself, just to be clear.

I cannot help Becca with whatever she needs right now, but she has to help me come what may, thinking that he shook his head. Deciding it was better for him to hunt and drink human blood, Alexander ran out of the manor.

Shortly, it started to snow, which made him awestruck. At first, it was a stressful environment, which turned into a flash of lightning just above Becca's house and now, it was snowing.

His eyes fell on the balcony of the manor, where Becca was standing and the snow was specifically landing on her. It seemed as if she found peace within the embrace of the gentle snowfall.

What's wrong with the weather here? wondered Alexander. The weather in the human world is as weird as human beings, with that thought, he made a note of the location of Becca's house before Alexander disappeared into thin air to go find his next meal.

  Chapter 4: Dorm-Mate

Finally, Becca was standing at the entrance of the university. It was the Sapienza University of Rome, one of the most famous universities in Italy. Her grip was relentless on the handle of the luggage, afraid of it slipping away from her hand and creating a scene. The less drama she created, the better it was for her.

Her father didn’t come to drop her off because it was at the farthest corner of the city and he deemed himself as a busy person; busy enough to not drop his daughter off at school. It was only an hour's distance from her house, yet she was grateful to get away from her father’s dreadful nature.

Taking a deep breath, she got inside and continued looking for her dorm room, no. 84. Friends could wait, she had to get her stuff in place first. She loved to stay organized after all.

Soon she reached her room and opened the wooden door with shivering hands. Becca was nervous, wondering how her roommate would be. She would only have one roommate and she hoped to be best friends with her.

Once she opened the door and stepped inside, she found herself in a purple-colored room. Everything was in purple and white tones as if someone customized the room. It looked fully remodeled.

Taking slow steps, she saw two single beds at two corners of the room. Both beds had a window nearby, and there was a table in the middle, where she could study with her roommate since it had two chairs. The other side of the room was covered with cabinets, along with the door leading to the washroom.

The white door of the washroom opened and a stunning woman gave a smile to Becca. She was wearing a red tank top and black sweatpants. Her dark brown hair was tied in a loose bun. She glanced at Becca with her dark brown eyes.

“Nice to meet you, roomie,” she said and extended a hand, “My name’s Nessa Worthe, and I am a sophomore. I was waiting for you.”

Hesitantly, Becca shook her hand and introduced herself, “I am Becca Hertford, a freshman. Well, I am not a freshman yet because the classes haven't started, but still…”

Her roommate laughed at her nervous rambling. She placed her cold hand on Becca’s shoulder and said, “It’s okay. You don’t have to be nervous. Besides, did you like the color of the room? I changed it two weeks ago after hearing I would get a roommate at last. I was living alone for a year, can you believe it?”

Becca arched an eyebrow, asking, “Are we allowed to change the color of our dorm room?”

She shook her head, and smirked, “Why fear when Nessa is here? I have already handled getting the approval.”

“Okay, then, I should set my things up first. Then we can gossip,” Becca announced and watched her roommate glancing at her black wristwatch.

“I could’ve helped you move in but I have some important work to do. Since it’s noon right now, you can start unpacking after having lunch. I saved a box of pizza for you on that bed, which is your bed by the way,” she explained and ran to pull on her black sneakers. “See you later.” With that, she rushed out of the room, leaving Becca alone.

“She seems nice,” Becca murmured to herself and decided to unpack her belongings after sending a text to her dad that she reached her dorm safe and sound, not that he would care.

  ###

  It was evening.

Alexander was in the Bellmor jungle, waiting for his twin to arrive. All of a sudden, a woman jumped on him but he dodged it just in time, making the woman hit the tree.

“Fuck,” she groaned, rubbing her forehead and glared at her brother, who leaned against another tree.

Alexander rolled his eyes. He retorted, “Can you stop doing that every time we meet?”

The woman grunted, “I just wanted to hug you. We haven’t seen each other in so long.”

“Shut up, Ness,” he grumbled and walked towards her. He took out Becca’s picture from his pocket and showed it to her. “Look at her. She is the girl with the vampire potion. I heard from Pristine that Becca is attending your university.”

She took a hold of the picture and chuckled. “This is Becca Hertford, my roommate.”

“That’s great. So, you can help me,” Alexander let out a relieved sigh.

“Why should I do that? Phil entrusted you with that responsibility,” she deadpanned. “That asshole is really crazy to be the vampire king.”

“Vanessa Insworthe,” Alexander said sternly, “Don’t forget that he is your elder brother.”

Vanessa rolled her eyes dramatically. “I don’t care, Alex. I only treat you as my brother. You are the one who always meets me every time you come into the human world. Phil never even checked to see how I was doing, so I won’t do anything to get the vampire potion. Best of luck helping your big brother.” With that, she sprinted to exit the jungle but Alexander beat her to it, standing in front of her.

“Okay, but you can at least tell me what to do. Set up a meeting for me with Becca. I will ask her about the potion to see whether she has any idea and if she doesn’t, I will alter reality,” said Alexander.

“Are you fucking crazy?” Vanessa blurted out. “How can you ask her about it in the first meeting? And even if she knows about it, why would she give it to you for no goddamn reason?”

“Why not?” he inquired. “I want to go back to the vampire world as soon as possible after I get the potion. I cannot stay here any longer because I can smell delicious blood everywhere and it’s hard to control oneself when we are surrounded by food.”

“Then learn to control your urges, Alex,” she told him and prepared herself to go back to the dorm by tying the shoelace which came untied. “Also, I can give you a piece of advice since you are my brother,” she continued, “Instead of asking Becca about the potion, move into the dorm like she did and try to get to know her on a personal level. You have to be around her and get an idea of where she might have kept the potion.”

“But—” before Alexander could speak further, Vanessa vanished in thin air.

He sighed, wondering, how would Vanessa understand that Becca’s blood is screaming at me to have a taste of it?

Alexander was worried about how he would control himself to not bite her. Yet, he knew that Vanessa’s advice was a good one. He had to move into the dorm in that university and get close to Becca. The faster he did everything, it would be easier for him to return to the vampire world and make Phil happy.

In the meantime, Becca had completed unpacking.

Vanessa entered the room, saying, “Sorry, roomie. My errands took longer than I expected.”

Becca was stuffing her mouth with Ferrero Rocher while looking over her new books by sitting on the chair. She looked at Vanessa and smiled, “No worries. Do you want some chocolate?”

Vanessa shook her head in denial. “Ac
tually, my boyfriend, Sebastian hates chocolates so I prefer to not eat them.”

“You have a boyfriend?” Becca asked with a shocked look covering her face.

A bright smile evolved on Vanessa’s lips at the mention of her boyfriend. “Yes, his name is Sebastian Garrett. He is the best boyfriend ever. Do you want to know our love story?”

“Of course,” Becca said in excitement.

“Well then.” Vanessa pulled a chair for herself and started narrating her love story, which Becca listened to intently. She even promised to make Becca meet her boyfriend the following day.

  ###

Alexander moved into a room, in the building near Becca’s dorm. He even moved onto the same floor as hers so that he could keep an eye on her all the time. He made a special request for not having a roommate and paid extra money for it. His request was accepted and he didn’t get a roommate. He was fully alone in his monochromatic room.

He called Pristine to inform her about his situation. Alexander could easily contact Pristine who lived in the vampire world because the vampires had a special chip installed in their phones, through which communication between the human world and the vampire world was possible.
