He sat on his bed, head hanging. Jasper had a bit of time before dinner with Hailey. Enough time to get some writing done. He pulled out his notebook from under his bed and scribbled the thoughts swirling in his head. Part of him hoped, by writing them on paper, he would figure something out. Jasper had a solid start to a hit song when his hand cramped up on him. He released the pen in his hand and rubbed his palm. He glanced at the clock and threw the notebook under his bed. Carl was going to have to drive like a bat out of hell to get him to Hailey's house on time.
He grabbed his shoes and ran out to catch the elevator. When Jasper jumped into the car and began to pull on his shoes, Carl frowned. Carl remained quiet the whole ride, which was usual for him, but Jasper welcomed the silence. By some miracle, Carl had made it to Hailey's apartment without a minute to spare.
Hailey gave him a wide smile when she opened her door. She wore a pair of black leggings and a purple sweater that hung off one shoulder. Her hair was piled in a messy looking knot on the top of her head. She was adorable. Jasper held back his groan, his gaze wandering to her black boots hugging her shapely legs.
When they got back in the car, Carl was all smiles. Jasper wanted to roll his eyes at how obvious his like for Hailey was.
“Where to?” Carl asked still not putting eyes on Jasper.
Jasper froze. He had been so preoccupied with his internal struggle he didn't even think about where they would go and eat. Hailey looked at him with a puzzled expression. He shouldn't do what he was about to do, but he was a rock star and sometimes he just had to say fuck the rules.
“Let's go back to my place and eat. I've had enough paparazzi tonight.”
Hailey reclined her seat and nodded her head. Carl winked at him in the rearview mirror and drove them back to Jasper's place.
Jasper pulled out his phone and ordered Chinese food. Hailey smiled at him, and he thought of how normal it seemed to be headed home with her. The fact that it wasn’t going to be a date bothered him, but he could suck it up for a night of hanging as friends and work associates.
“Are you ok?” Hailey asked.
“Yeah, I have a lot on my mind.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
Hailey placed her hand on his forearm and Jasper clenched his jaw so he wouldn’t say something stupid. He needed to get a handle on himself. He reached out and took her hand.
“Maybe, when we get up to my place.”
“Ok,” Hailey told him squeezing his hand, as if offering him support. Support for something she had no clue about.
“We’re here,” Carl announced, bringing them back into the reality.
Hailey blushed and tried to take her hand back, but Jasper wouldn’t let go.
“Thanks, Carl,” Hailey said, standing on her tiptoes and kissing his driver on the cheek. “Has he been weird since I left you guys?” Hailey pointed toward Jasper as if he couldn’t hear her.
“Give him a break, he has some stuff on his mind. He’s a good guy,” Carl answered looking at Jasper.
“Yeah, he’s not bad when he’s behaving,” Hailey said, giggling with Carl.
The ride on the elevator was excruciating. The tiny space had Hailey’s scent assaulting his nose.
“Do you have any movies you want to watch?” Hailey asked, her eyes watching him through the reflection of elevator walls.
“I’ll let you pick.”
“Such the gentleman,” Hailey teased him, hitting her shoulder against him.
“Only with you,” Jasper admitted and wished that he could take the words back.
Hailey nodded her head and shut her mouth without responding, and Jasper was grateful.
He fantasized about smashing his palm to the stop button and pressing Hailey up against the wall. He could picture her legs wrapped around him, as their clothes magically disappeared, and he was thrusting deep inside of her claiming her as his own. Jasper’s hand twitched inside of Hailey’s, and he almost lived out his daydream, but the elevator dinged, bringing him out of it.
Hailey hesitated. Jasper wasn’t moving. He wanted to tell her he needed a moment because he was getting turned on. He counted to ten and moved out of the elevator. She looked at him questionably, but didn’t say anything.
Jasper pulled her to a complete stop. His door was slightly ajar. He was positive he had closed it when he’d left to go pick her up, and the hotel staff wouldn’t have cleaned it at such a weird hour.
“What’s going on, Jasper?” Hailey asked.
“Shh,” Jasper put his finger to her lips and motioned with his head at the open door. Hailey’s eyes grew wide.
“Stay against the wall. Have your phone out just in case. I’m going to check inside.”
He had been in the business long enough to know that stalkers were crazy, and this could become a dangerous situation.
