“What are you doing in here?” Cedric asked coldly.
“I didn’t see anything in there. I swear it.” Kevin quivered in fear as he lean back against the door.
Cedric walked to Kevin in a way that scared him and then when he got really close to him he spoke in his face. “Curiosity always kill a cat… be sure to keep that in mind”
Cedric walked past him into his room, then he slammed the door.
Even though he had been living with Cedric for a whole year, he felt he doesn’t know this new Cedric. He felt like he was an entirely different person. He acted coldly towards Kevin in a way that scared him.
Curiosity always kill a cat…
Cedric’s words kept echoing in his mind.
“I knew you were following me… I just let you follow me so you can put your suspicious to rest. But now you have let the group discover you. You have now made yourself a target of Beocraft” he heard the voice spoke behind him.
Kevin turned to see Cedric standing by the door. He felt his knees trembling. He suddenly found himself asking in a scared voice. “Are you going to kill me?”
For a moment, Cedric looked at him coldly and that scared the hell out of Kevin. “No, I won’t kill you…” he finally spoke. “…but they will.” Cedric gave him a cold look then he went into his room and shut the doors leaving Kevin standing outside in horror.
Who are ‘they’?
Kevin felt his heart pounding inside his chest.
He quickly dashed into his room and then packed his things. He left the house that night. He had never been so scared of Cedric his entire life like the way he felt that night. He felt like his life was on the line –like there was someone standing in a dark corner, watching him.
That night, Kevin parked all his belonging and then ran to stay with Kern. He explained all that had happened to kern.
Kevin didn’t want to get out of the house that morning but he had to meet up with Leonard as they had planned. Leonard had said he had something important he needed to tell him about the masked man that had kidnapped him.
He had kern drive him to the park. It was a sunny morning when they’d arrived at the park. Kevin had looked around the park for any sign of Leonard but he didn’t see him anywhere.
He got out of the car and then walked into the park. The park was buzzing with lot of people. He then looked around the place hoping to find Leonard but he didn’t see him anywhere.
Kevin wondered if he had arrived a bit early. He took a quick glance at his watch.
9:08am
He then took his seat close to the spot where Leonard had handed him the note. After a couple of minute sitting there waiting for Leonard, he then looked at his watch.
9:37am
He then looked around at the park. He was beginning to feel something was wrong.
He suddenly noticed a small group of people that had gathered there in the park very close to the spot where Mirabel was found. It caught his attention. He then noticed more and more people walking towards that spot to join the crowd. He noticed some people leaving the place with their hands covering their face. Others left with a squeezed look on their face.
Kevin had a really bad feeling about this. He had this disturbing thought building up inside of him but then he quickly waved it aside assuring himself that Leonard would soon be here. He just needed to give him more time.
But then as he sat there, he noticed the crowd was getting bigger and the police force had arrived at the scene. That was when he knew something was really wrong.
Curiosity took over him as he quickly got up from where he sat and hurried towards the crowd. He then moved past the people that had gathered there up to the front.
He saw him…
He saw the person he had been waiting for laying dead on the floor…
Kevin patted his hands on his forehead and quickly looked away. Tears formed in his eye, then he slowly turn to look back at Leonard laying there on the floor at the very same spot where Mirabel laid.
Leonard just laid there lifeless and his mouth were opened in a really sick way like he had gotten tired of screaming while he was being tortured to death.
Strains of veins were visible around his neck and his eye where widely open in a sick way that disturbed Kevin. His cloths was soaked up in his own blood and his chest was torn right open in a similar fashion to the way Murphy’s chest was torn open. His heart was left hanging out of his chest.
Kevin folded his fist tight trying hard to force himself to look away but he just couldn’t. He just kept staring at disfigured body of a once able police officer just laying there in the dust.
They got to you too.
He felt his chest heaving.
Kevin then noticed a little paper hanging out Leonard’s shirt then he took it out and looked over it.
Everybody you love dies…
His tears dropped.
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN: THE SECOND ENCOUNTER
Siren from several police vehicle filled the air. Alex arrived at the scene of Leonard’s murder along with the president of TCU, Sir Lawrence Linus.
Lawrence had a brown scarf wrapped around his neck and a cowboy hat to match. He was closely followed by his muscular dark bodyguard, who was on alert at all time and his hands on the gun like he was ready to fire at anyone who dares to attack Lawrence.
The police were already wrapping Leonard’s body in a plastic bag, when they arrive at the scene. One of the officers present slightly moved the bag to reveal Leonard’s agonized face at Lawrence’s request.
Alex couldn’t stand the sight of the horribly disfigured face of Leonard. He ran off to a corner and threw his guts out into the gutter. Lawrence stood by his side and then offered him a clean towel to clean himself up.
“Thank you.” Alex said taking the towel from Lawrence and cleaning his face with it.
The police officers then carried Leonard’s body into one of the vehicles. Then they drove away with him.
“This is the third murder victim we’ve found this week. His name is Leonard, a police officer in the Homicide department of fallout city. This is the second time we have had an occurrence like this happening here in the park.” Alex explained watching the vehicle drive away. “…The first was a little girl who was brutally torture to death also in a similar way.”
“…the same killer?” Lawrence asked.
“It appears so sir.” Alex answered “the circumstances surrounding both their death wasn’t so different. They were both tortured and their bodies dumped at this very same spot.”
“The only information we have on the killer right now is his name, T-Rex. I bet that’s not even his real name. It might just be a code name or something” Alex added
“Then we’ve got a really big problem.” Lawrence said “we have a serial killer on the loose here in the city and we have to find him fast before he hurts anyone else.”
Lawrence noticed Kevin sitting on of the benches there in the park. He looked sober as he sat there. He had a little tear in his eyes. He was looking so broken and devastated as he stared blankly at the spot where Leonard’s body was found.
“Who is that?” Lawrence asked. “…a relative of the victim?”
“Leonard had no close relative.” Alex answered then looking over at Kevin “…that is Kevin. Leonard was the detective assigned to handle Kevin’s case about the brutal murder of his girlfriend a year ago. Murphy and Leonard were both working on the case together until recently Murphy mysteriously disappeared and was later found dead in an old abandoned warehouse that was used a year ago to torture a lady called Loretta, Kevin’s fiancée.”
“hmm, this Kevin seem like an interesting guy. I will like a word with him.” Lawrence said coldly.
Alex walked up to where Kevin sat while Lawrence accompanied him behind. He called out Kevin’s attention “… there is someone I’d like you to meet.” He said steeping aside to reveal Lawrence standing behind him “this is Lawrence, president at state threat contro
l unit. He is here to help...”
Kevin felt a sudden chill go down his spine soon after the introduction. It felt like he was jumping into more trouble after another. He then slowly looks up at Lawrence.
Lawrence beamed a smile at him. Kevin saw the huge muscular dark solider standing right behind him.
…Lawrence Linus is the president of TCU. He was recently appointed to replace Tasha’s Dad, Mr. William. That guy is a real pain in the ass. I think he’s already figured out what I am and it’s only a matter of time before he comes for me. His tactics at fishing out shifters is really good. Tomorrow he is conducting a home to home investigation on every house hold here in the city. I advise you stay out of sight when he comes around. He is really a man to be scared of… When you see him, you will know. He always walks around with a huge muscular soldier following him behind. Lawrence doesn’t go anywhere without him.
Derik’s words echoed in his head. Every part of him warned him to stay away from Lawrence, he’s dangerous.
“Alex here told me about the tragic incidence with your girlfriend a year ago…”
“My fiancée…” Kevin corrected him “we were supposed to get married but then… he took her from me”
“…was there any particular reason why this T-Rex had targeted her” Lawrence asked him now looking serious at him.
The question had taken him of guard. “ummm… none that I can think of.” Kevin answered.
“I heard he also made an attempt to kidnap William’s daughter, that was few days ago… do you have any affiliation with Miss Natasha?”
“We are school friends and that’s it.” Kevin answered almost immediately.
Lawrence looked deep at Kevin like he was trying to see through his soul. “How long have you known Miss Natasha?” he asked.
Kevin was now starting to get uncomfortable with the way Lawrence looked at him. “I met her on my first day in school when I was just applying to register as a student there… that was barely a week ago.”
Lawrence then asked him “… you mentioned you were applying to register as a new student the day you met Natasha, was there any particular reason why you changed school?”
“I moved into this city recently and since I couldn’t continue with the school at fallout city because of the distance, I had to register into a new one here in the city.”
Looking straight into his eyes, Lawrence asked. “When did you arrive at this city?”
It took Kevin a moment before he answered, “…a week ago.”
“A week ago?” Lawrence asked in confirmation.
“Yes…” Kevin answered firmly. “… a week ago.”
Lawrence then turned to look at Alex who had been quite all along “when was the first murder victim found?
“Few days ago.” Alex answered “it was a little girl that Kevin had been looking after before she was kidnapped and was later found dead here in the pack”
Lawrence then tossed a look at Kevin. Kevin finally understood where this was headed. He figured Lawrence had been trying to link him up with the murder incidence.
“A few days after you arrived the city, the same guy that’d tortured your fiancée a year ago shows up here in the city, tried to kidnap William’s daughter, tortured a little girl to death and killed the two officers working on your case… don’t you find that a bit odd?”
Kevin didn’t know what else to say to him. He just stood there staring blankly at Lawrence.
“…am starting to think this deaths happening in the city is all your fault.” Lawrence added.
Alex said, “Sir Lawrence if I may---”
“Detective please stay out of this, I know what I am doing” Lawrence quickly cautioned him.
Lawrence then turn to look at Kevin “that will be all for now, Mr. Kevin. I will contact you as soon as more matters arise.” Then he left with the big bodied soldier following him closely behind.
Alex nodded his head at him, and then he left.
When Lawrence was a distance away from Kevin, he turned to look at him with a suspicious look on his face. Then he shook his head and then entered into the black jeep and they drove him away.
Kevin’s followed the jeep with his eye until he was finally out of sight. His eyes then fell on black crows sitting on a rocky cliff. They were all pecking the ground. His mind suddenly flashback to the vision he had last night.
Was it already happening?
He stood up slowly and then walked towards the direction of the birds. One of the black birds then stopped to stare at Kevin with its red scary eye.
It was the same group of birds from his first vision. It then let out a loud caw. They all spread their wings and flew away.
Almost immediately, cold heavy breeze blew in his direction and he heard a voice from the wind call out Natasha’s name in a whisper.
Kevin’s eyes widened when he suddenly realized he was reliving a moment. He had already lived this moment in his dreams.
He knew what comes next -Mr. William was in danger. He quickly took out his phone to call Derik.
“Derik…” Kevin said as soon as he heard Derik’s voice over the phone. “I saw those visions again last night and it’s already happening… T-Rex is going to kidnap Natasha again, he is already at William’s house right now as we speak. You have to rush over to William right now.”
Derik immediately hanged up.
Kevin quickly rushed into kern’s car then he said to him in a hurry “Natasha’s house now…”
“What the hell is going on?” kern asked looking confused at Kevin reaction.
“Just drive, I’ll explain all about it on the way…”
Kern quickly starts the engine and then drove out of the park into the road. It was only fifteen minute ride and they finally got to the house. When they had arrived, Kevin quickly got out through the window and then ran through the walkway leading up to the door. He quickly knocked on the door.
He heard a loud noise coming from inside like something had scattered on the floor. Then he heard three loud gunshots. Kevin quickly ducked then he quickly kicked the door open.
He saw the room was a total mess. Broken glasses and home furniture laid there on the floor. The television set had been smashed to piece. Then he heard another loud gunshot coming from one of the rooms in the house.
He quickly rushed into the room where he had heard the gunshot. It was Natasha’s room. He quickly pushed her door open.
He saw T-Rex holding William up against the wall while Natasha sat at the edge of her bed sobbing as she watched her dad being beaten up. Kevin quickly noticed William’s gun lying on the ground beneath his feet.
T-Rex slowly turned to look at him. Kevin startled backward in fear. He was terrified at T-Rex. T-Rex let go William and then dashed at Kevin quickly.
William dropped on the hard floor in a loud thud. He groaned painfully when he broke his ankle. Just when T-Rex was about to reach him, Kevin heard a loud gunshot from behind him. T-Rex dropped on the floor in front of him. He started bleeding.
He heard a gun cocked behind him. Slowly taking his hands up in the air, Kevin turned to see who it was. He felt a big relief when he saw Derik holding up his small revolver gun at T-Rex.
Derik fired at T-Rex again, the bullet embedded in his left shoulder causing him great pains.
Derik quickly aimed the gun to at him but then T-Rex transformed into a huge monster. He quickly charged at Derik and quickly slapped the gun off his hands then T-Rex clutched his hands around his neck.
His beastly hands were Hugh and rough around Derik’s neck. Then another loud gunshot echoed across the room. Blood spilled from T-Rex’s back.
The angry Beast roared looking over at Kevin who held William’s Gun in his hands. Kevin had the gun aimed at his head. T-Rex quickly threw Derik in Kevin’s direction throwing them both on the ground.
T-Rex quickly fled in pains out through the window. T-Rex’s blood stained the window. Natasha sat at the edge of the bed trembling in fear as
she watched. Derik rushed to her. Holding her hands, he looked into her eyes and asked. “Are you alright?”
Natasha nodded her head quickly like a little girl with tear over her eyes. She then looked at her dad groaning in pains.
Derik then quickly rushed to William to examine him. William was bleeding out.
“Call an ambulance now!” Derik yelled out at Kevin.
CHAPTER NINTEEN: THE PICTURES ON THE WALL
William was quickly rushed to the hospital. He was immediately treated upon on their immediate arrival to the hospital. They all sat outside the operating room hoping he gets better.
Kevin sat there tapping his feet nervously. Derik sat beside him wearing a worried look on his face. Natasha sat on the bench opposite them both.
There was tension in the room between Natasha and Kevin as they sat opposite each other. Neither of them turned to look at each other. They sat there avoiding each other’s gaze. They glance at each other then immediately turn away when they notice.
Derik quickly noticed the negative energy between them both. He pretended not to see them. Some minute later, he stood up and left leaving Kevin and Natasha in an awkward silence.
Kevin didn’t know what to say to her. He had wanted to apologies to her but then he hesitated. He stood up and left. He joined up with Derik waiting for him in his car.
“What was that between you two?” Derik asked right after he got into the car.
“What was what?” Kevin said pretending not to know what Derik was talking about.
“Come on Kevin, don’t play dumb with me….” Derik said starting the engine. “I saw the way you two were pretending not to notice each other there in the hospital.”
“Isn’t that what you wanted…” Kevin said “…for us to be apart?”
Derik beams a smile at him.
The car engine roared to life. Pulling out a map and placing it in front of Kevin, he said “the spot I marked out on that map is 57 old Avenue hills. We are going to go check it out.” Then he drove away.
After about an hour on the road, Derik drove into a street with a big signboard with the inscription ‘Welcome To Old Avenue Hills’ boldly written on it.
