Hide and Shriek #14 Page 19

I guess Jer’s plan to get Clarissa’s attention worked because Clarissa’s been talking about him a lot. But she’s been pretty serious and strict lately. I think Dr. Steve came down pretty hard on her for leaving campers alone when we went to look for Belle and Chelsea.

Speaking of Chelsea . . . we have voted her Queen of the Bunk. Truth! We all realized that we didn’t even give her or Gaby a chance and everyone is sorry for being so mean. We have totally hit reset. I’m making Chelsea a beaded necklace like those ones we made my first summer, and Brynn is coaching Gaby for her audition as Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls. No more spooky The Legend of Sleepy Hollow for us!

We’ve been back for three whole days, and so far no one has gone home. I guess all our parents understand that what happened was a one-time thing, and they trust Dr. Steve and Belle to take care of us. And everyone is safe and sound, so that counts for something.

Turns out that we were wrong about Belle. She’s not a vampire—she just doesn’t tan! And she has a black belt in tae kwon do!

I’m sitting out on our porch, watching the sun go down, and I still have a question: What was holding my hand in the fog?

At first I didn’t even want to think about it ever again. But you know, the thing is, I was really scared out there . . . and whatever it was, it gave me a warm, friendly squeeze, like it was trying to comfort me. So if there is a ghost, I think it’s a nice one. Like Casper.

Hey! Chelsea just informed me that our entire division is going to have a singdown! And no one but 5A knows that Chelsea knows every single pop hit written in the 1970s! With Chelsea up for ‘70s hits and Brynn as our secret weapon for Broadway musicals, we are totally going to win! The other bunks are in terrible danger of losing.

  I can’t believe I just wrote that!

Anyway, gotta go. I miss you! Can’t wait to see you!

  XOXO,

  Nat
