My friend Oli Woolley also deserves praise for his intelligent comments on this work, and for his general good humour.
The FOSS programmers who helped make Sigil, Calibre, Gedit, and LibreOffice deserve praise for doing what they do.
Finally, I must thank Karen Gordon: my fellow writer and occasional confidant.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Alex Stargazer is not the name I was born with, but in a way it is my truest name. The best names are chosen, not given. This is why the true name is an old fantasy trope: its key maxim is that a character needs to go on a journey—not to discover the world, but to discover themselves. Life is what tempers you; what reveals the hidden strengths and weaknesses of your soul.
And I’ve had an interesting life so far. This book I wrote at fourteen, and published at sixteen. At seventeen I began work on a new book; it is called the Ark, and you have already read a small part of it.
I have lived in Romania, the Netherlands, and in England. As of the time of writing, I am once more back in the Netherlands—this time in Amsterdam. I shall stay here for the duration of my degree course. After that: who knows? I joke that I shall move to Arachadia, or some other far-flung corner of my imagination.
I am an avid blogger, so if my brevity here leaves you unsatisfied, do check out my blog below. I am also available on Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus.
