P.S I'm a WOLF! (Paranormal Shifter Romance Book 1)

He had barely settled himself on a comfortable chair on his balcony when there was a knock at his bedroom door. “Come in,” he called out over his shoulder.
The door opened and even though the light in his bedroom was low, he could sense Petra before she took two steps into the room. He stood up from his chair and turned to face her as she walked through the sitting area of his large room and went to join him outside.
She walked like a panther, smooth and cool, and it struck him odd that she moved the way that she did, seeing as she was a werewolf. Her eyes stayed on him the entire time she went toward him.
“What brings you up here tonight?” he asked, working on being polite to her. He didn’t want her there. He wanted to sit with his own thoughts about what was coming and what he was going to have to let go of when she became his wife.
“You,” she spoke in a smooth, low voice. A sly smile spread over her face and she stood before him, lifting her hands to lay them flat on his chest. “I was wondering why you haven’t come to the south house to see me. I feel like I’ve been here for ages, and you haven’t visited me even once. I thought I’d have seen you by now for one reason…” She trailed her fingers down his chest to his waist where she closed them over the waist of his pants, “…or another.”
“I’ve been busy at work,” he said simply, turning away from her so that her hands fell away from him.
She pouted. “Even at night?” she asked with an inviting tone.
“Yes,” Kip said simply. He felt no need to explain anything to her.
Petra frowned then and furrowed her brow some. “Do you have some kind of problem with me?”
Kip shook his head and turned to look at her. “No, I don’t.”
She went to him again as he faced the banister of the balcony, curling her hands around the bulk of muscle in his arm. Looking up at him with a hungry grin, she spoke with a velvet tone. “Don’t you think I’m very beautiful?” she asked, moving her hands slowly up and down his strong arm.
He looked straight ahead. “Yes, you’re very beautiful.”
She rested her chin on his arm as she looked up at him, the pout returning to her face. “Then why is it that you don’t seem to be too attracted to me? Everyone else is… all the men, always. They all want me, but not you. I can’t sense any attraction in you to me. Why is that?”
Kip turned his head and looked down at her as she gazed up at him. “You’re beautiful, but I don’t know you at all. You’re a complete stranger to me.” He wished he could tell her that it wasn’t possible that a person could feel strong attraction to someone they either didn’t know or had just barely met, but he couldn’t tell her that. He had barely known Janine, and yet he had such a strong attraction to her that he couldn’t keep away from her. “That’s it, Petra, and that’s all there is to it. I just don’t know you.”
A fierce grin came over her face and she turned him to face her. “Then get to know me.” Her voice was sultry, and her eyes were on fire. She leaned up on her toes, locked her arms around his neck, and pressed her lips to his, hard.
Kips mind was so focused on everything else that she caught him by surprise. He hadn’t expected her to come onto him that fast or that way. As fast as she had launched herself at him to kiss him, he pushed her away from him. She gaped at him in astonishment, and he rightly guessed that she had never been refused by any man that she had ever wanted.
“It’s late. I’m tired and I need some sleep.” He sighed, turning away from her and walking into the bedroom. “I’ll see you later when you’ve had less wine to drink.”
With not more than a few steps, she was beside him again, and he turned to face her. He could smell the desire in her, and the stubbornness. Her eyes were narrowed with annoyance, but he was well aware of just how turned on she was.
She reached her hands up to his face and held it firmly as she stared into his eyes. “I am going to make you want me so bad that you’ll never be able to leave me alone. I want you, and I always get what I want.”
He pulled her hands off of his face with firm gentleness and stepped away from her. “Good night, Petra.”
Flipping her dark hair behind her, she strode to the door and walked out of his room. He sighed and went back out onto the balcony. He looked over the valley to the water far beyond. It was saltwater, and he could see the bright moonlight glimmering on it, like a silent beautiful secret meant only for him.
He was troubled about everything going on and he wished sorely that there were some answers. His thoughts turned to Janine and he ached for her in several ways. He hated that she couldn’t be there with him and that he had to keep his affair with her a secret from his family. He never kept anything from his family. He wanted to have her there with him, to introduce her to his family and let them get to know her and see how amazing she was. He wanted her around with him all of the time, but that wasn’t going to happen.
Kip realized then just what was happening. He was falling in love with Janine, and he was for all intents and purposes, engaged to Petra with a date at the altar just weeks away. The last thing he wanted to do in the world was marry Petra, and it was the only thing in the world he couldn’t get out of doing.
Several days passed and he was at work with Luca; both of them finishing up details on a project that they were wrapping up. Kip looked up at Luca from a folder in his hands. “Have you heard from Harris Corp?”
Luca didn’t look at Kip. “Yes.”
Kip waited, and when Luca said nothing, he pressed further, “What did they say?”
“They said they want in on the deal. They’re ready to sign it and go forward.” Luca continued to look at what he was doing, and Kip frowned slightly. He breathed in the air between them and began to sense that something was not right with Luca.
“Luca, is there something bothering you?” he asked, listening carefully and studying Luca carefully.
“Yes,” Luca replied quietly.
Again, there was no further information. Kip furrowed his brow. “Well what is it? What’s going on?”
Luca shook his head. “I can’t tell you. It isn’t right to say it, so you’re just going to have to let it go.”
Kip set the file in his hands down and looked at his friend, his family, closely. “What is it about?” He listened carefully and watched, hoping for some kind of hint that would clue him in as to why Luca was bothered about something he couldn’t share with a pack mate.
With a sigh, Luca finally raised his head and looked at Kip. “It’s nothing that can be helped or fixed, so just let it go. Please. Dwelling on it is not going to do anyone any good.”
Kip pursed his lips together and nodded. “Okay. Well, whenever you’re ready, you can come and talk to me. I’m always here for you no matter what.”
“Not this time.” Luca looked away.
“Every time, always,” Kip replied sincerely.
There was a stiff silence between them for most of the rest of the afternoon, and Kip wondered what was happening with his friend. He couldn’t detect anything other than a dejected emotion from him, but then again Luca was a wolf a little older than him, and he had refined the subtle art of keeping his emotions and tells to himself. He was a difficult read even when he wasn’t trying to hide anything.
Kip clapped him on the shoulder late that afternoon when he left, looking at him in concern. “I hope that whatever it is will be fixed soon. I don’t like seeing you this way. If I can help or do anything, please let me know.”
Luca gave a slight shrug and turned away from Kip. With a sigh, Kip left the office, worrying over his friend.
Kip picked Janine up from the coffee shop a little early and her supervisor let her go. She was thrilled to see him, looking forward to the surprise date that Kip had hinted to her that they were going to have.
“You look beautiful,” he said as she wrapped her arms around him in a big hug.
“Oh no I don’t. I just got off of work!” She laughed at him a bit.r />
“Beautiful.” He grinned at her and leaned down to give her a long, sweet kiss. When he let her go, they had both lost their breath. “Ready?” he asked her, trying to keep his mind on the evening ahead. He had planned it with high hopes in mind that it could be one of the best memories he would ever make with her and share with her, so that in those days in the not too distant future when she was out of his life permanently, they could both look back on the night with warmth in their hearts and a smile on their faces. The could remember that even though the world had other plans for them, there was at least one truly, totally perfect night that they had shared together, and it would be a hidden treasure for them both for the rest of their lives.
“So where are we going?” Janine asked with excitement in her voice as she got into Kip’s car.
“You’ll see in a few minutes,” he answered with a twinkle in his dark eyes.
“Thank you for this. No matter what we do, no matter where we go, I know already that we’re going to have the best time.” She grinned at him, and his heart melted in him. He leaned over to her and kissed her again before putting the car into gear.
“Okay, we need to go before I get too wrapped up in you here to go anywhere.” He winked at her, but she knew that he meant it.
She reached for his hand and held it in hers, amazed by the powerful emotions that she felt for him. She had never known that there could ever be anyone like him, and the more she got to know him, the more she wanted to know him; the more she wanted to be with him. He was like an addictive drug for her, and she never wanted to be over him.
Kip drove along the roads of Seattle until he was out of it and going north along the coast. He turned at one point and drove a short distance until they were obscured from public view by a forest of towering pine trees, and not much further down the road he came to a stop at a marina.
“What is this?” she asked with intrigue as he helped her from the car.
“This is a private marina.” He told her with a smile, feeling excitement build more in him.
“What are we doing at a marina?” she asked with anticipation.
He wrapped her in his arms and kissed her softly, and then looked into her eyes and stroked her cheek. “You’ll see, lover of mine. Come with me.”
Kip took her hand in his and together they left the car and walked onto the dock. Their footsteps sounded hollow against the wooden planks that reached out from the shore to the boats. There were four very large boats docked: two cabin cruisers, one yacht, and one large sailboat.
Janine said nothing as he led her to the sailboat. She was too excited to talk at first. She could only watch and grin, holding Kip’s hand tightly. He led her past the other watercraft to the sailboat at the end and boarded it with her.
“I love sailboats! One of these days I would love to learn how to sail. I think I might get out more if I knew how to do it,” she gushed happily as she looked around the deck. “I never get to go sailing because I’m always so busy with work and school, so this is a rare treat. Thank you!”
He grinned at her. “I’m glad to hear that you like this. I am hoping to make some very special memories with you on this boat tonight.”
Janine winked at him and laughed. They readied the boat together, and soon enough, he had it sailing out of the secluded little cove where it had been harbored. They took to the rolling blue waves and set out for the Salish Sea.
They saw Orca and Humpback whales, Dall’s porpoises, bald eagles, Stellar sea lions, and so much more. The wildlife was abundant, and it made them both feel as if they were connected to each other and to the world around them so deeply.
Kip sailed with her for a few hours and then brought the boat into a hidden cove within a small island. The golden hour was upon them, and the sun colored the leaves, the sea, and everything that it touched with a beautiful warm hue.
When the boat was anchored, Janine wrapped her arms around Kip and gazed up blissfully into his dark eyes. “This has been the most romantic afternoon of my life,” she spoke in a soft and velvety tone. He felt as though he was going to melt in her arms.
“It’s not over yet,” he murmured back, smiling tenderly at her and then leaning close to kiss her. As his mouth closed over hers, the sparks began to fly anew, and her breath caught in her as his arms closed firm around her.
“I don’t want it to be over,” she mumbled against his cheek as he began to kiss her neck slowly, making his way downward.
“Neither do I,” he said quietly. Thoughts of what was to change in his life soon tried to crowd his mind, but he pushed them away and let himself get lost in everything about her, as the fires of need began to burn deeply in him. “Come with me.” He lifted his mouth from her skin and looked at her.
His eyes were half closed with desire, and his lips were parted in hunger for her. “I would go anywhere with you,” she replied breathily.
Kip took her hand and led her down into the cabin of the sailboat, which was much bigger than she had suspected that it might be. The waves outside rocked the boat in a gently swaying motion as he slowly took all of her clothes off of her, as if savoring every second of it, almost as if he was unwrapping a gift.
“You are so beautiful,” he whispered, his fingers and hands canvassing her flesh as he brought his mouth to it, sucking and kissing her gently everywhere that he could. “There is nothing and no one like you in the world. You are so precious… so perfect.”
“Not me…” She closed her palms around his face and gazed into his eyes as his mouth moved over her breasts. “You… that’s all you. That’s exactly what I think of you.”
He leaned up and kissed her lips sensually. “Then we would make a perfect pair.”
“We do make a perfect pair.” She smiled at him as she ran her fingers through his hair.
“I would keep you right here in my arms forever, if I could do it,” Kip spoke against her lips as he kissed her and parted her thighs with his free hand. “Would you stay with me that long if you could?” He asked, sliding his fingertips over the tender folds at her core. He massaged her gently for a moment, and then grew firmer in his stroking.
“I would love that,” she answered, her heart quickening as her breath began to shorten. His fingers moved inside of her, feeling her wetness and needing to feel much more than that from her.
“Me too,” he spoke huskily as his erection grew hot and hard, pulsing for her body, “More than anything.” He slid into her slowly, one thick inch at a time, as she gasped and held fast to him, burying her face in his neck.
He closed his eyes and pretended that it could be true, that she could be his and he could make love with her anytime he wanted her, anytime that he needed her. When he was fully inside of her, he began to move slowly, pushing himself into her depths over and over again as she moaned and cried out in pleasure, her fingers digging into the hard muscles of his shoulders as she wrapped her legs around him and pressed her hips up hard against him.
She trembled beneath him with an orgasm, and it made him ravenous for more, aching to please her, to feel every ounce of passion and pleasure that existed within her. He rolled carefully onto his back, and she was astride him, rocking and swaying over his pelvis as he thrust himself further into her, groaning as he squeezed her breasts and drew them to his mouth. He sucked hard at her nipples as he massaged her flesh, cupping the rounded fullness and losing himself in them and in her.
Her soft sighs grew louder and he gazed at her face as they wrestled in love against each other. “Come for me again… I want you to come again…” he urged her, moving faster and harder than he had. She gasped, and her whole body tensed as ecstasy shot through her, making her cry out as she gripped him tightly, and the sheer intensity of her orgasm made him reach his, her pleasure giving him the ultimate pleasure, and he drove himself all the way into her, his cry joining hers as he flooded her with his release.
Their heartbeats and bodies slowing some, he laid with her against the pillows, h
olding her in his arms and kissing her, wishing with everything in him that it really could last forever as they had said.
“This was incredible. Thank you for this… for this gift of time with you; this special afternoon. It means everything to me,” he murmured, moving his lips lightly over her forehead, her cheeks, and her mouth.
She looked curiously at him then, blissfully wearied by their lovemaking. “It was the best time we’ve ever had,” she agreed. “But why is it so important to you that this afternoon of ours be so special? What’s different about it? You said you wanted to make some special memories today. I’m wondering why you’d say something like that.”
Kip sighed and leaned up on his arm, his eyes steady on hers. “I have something to confess, and it won’t be easy for either of us. We’re going to have to stop seeing each other soon.” He hated saying the words, but there was just no way around it. He didn’t want to keep it from her and their time together was running out. He wanted her to at least be a little prepared for the end of their relationship, even though it was still a month away.
