“You feel so… fucking good,” he said.

I pulled up and lowered myself again and then again.

“Fuck, yeah.” Adam grabbed my hips and began thrusting into me.

Gasping and moaning, I threw my head back. “Don’t stop.”

Clenching my jaw, I kept pumping into her, trying not to lose control. It wasn’t easy. The woman was taking my breath away. She was so sexy, with her plump round breasts jiggling above me and her tight, wet pussy massaging my cock. I could barely see straight.

I reached down and tried rubbing her clit as she rode me, wanting to see her come again. She slapped my hand away.

“You have to slow own for that. Just keep fucking me, ghost hunter. Hard.”

I grabbed her hips again and kicked it up a notch, thrusting and pumping into her with a vengeance.

She slid her hand down between her legs and began rubbing her clit herself. It was sexier than hell watching her masturbate while I fucked her.

“Ohh…..” She threw her head back and moaned again. “I’m… I’m gonna come.”

Suddenly her muscles clenched around my organ. She cried out and I joined her, finally able to let go as her pussy milked the seed right out of my cock. When it was over, all I could do was lay there, breathless and stunned. It was literally the best round of sex I’d ever had in my life.

“How’s your back?” she asked, sliding off of me.

I grinned. “It’s like new. You healed me.”

  She smiled. “Did I now?”

“Yeah. You’re just what the doctor ordered. Scratch that. You’re far more than what the doctor ordered,” I added, unable to take my eyes off of her beautiful body.

“You want me to take that condom off of you? I can’t believe it’s still hanging on.”

I looked down at it and chuckled. “Oh yeah.” I pulled it off and handed it over. “Thanks.”

“It just figures,” she said, giving me a look over her shoulder as she headed into the bathroom.

  “What?”

Chloe returned. “That the best night of sex I’ve ever had would be with my mortal enemy from high school.”

  I grinned.

  Her too?

“Did I just hear that right?”

“Don’t get too cocky. I’ve only had sex with one other guy.”

“I have to admit, you rocked my world tonight. You are by far the sexiest, most beautiful girl, I’ve ever been with.”

She smiled. “You’re just saying that. I’m sure you’ve been with dozens of girls.”

The truth was, I had. But she didn’t need to know that. “I’m serious.” I stared into her eyes. “I’ve never experienced something so… hot or intense before. Just thinking about it is making me hard again.”

She looked down and smiled. “I see that.”

I grabbed her hand and put it on my cock. She began stroking it.

I let out a ragged breath. “Do whatever you want. Whip me. Spank me. Pull my hair. Just don’t stop touching me.”

She let go and headed toward the bathroom. “I need a shower and then we’ll talk more about punishment.”

I raised my eyebrow and grinned. “I was kidding. You know. About the whipping and spanking.”

  She smiled. “I wasn’t.”

Chloe shut the door and I closed my eyes, still smiling like a fool. I honestly didn’t care what she did to me as long as I could keep her in bed with me.

After my shower, we fooled around some more and then fell asleep in each other’s arms. The next morning, I woke up with his erection pressed against my butt. Of course, I was extremely sore, there were no more condoms, and we had to be out of the motel by nine.

“Save that thought for later,” I told him, getting out of bed to use the bathroom.

“Thought? You literally fucked the brains right out of me. I have no thoughts anymore. Well, other than having more sex with you, that is.”

I laughed and then jumped in the shower again. Afterward, when it was his turn, I left the room and headed over to the soda machine, smiling to myself. We’d had such an incredible night and I was feeling giddy. Deep down I knew that I’d always had this twisted attraction toward Adam. Even when we’d been at our worst with each other. Now there was no denying that the chemistry between us was earth-shattering. Hell, as far as I was concerned, the sex alone was worth the torture he’d put me through. But, now we were all grown up and things were different. I had no idea what the future held, but it didn’t matter. We were young and having fun. A lot of fun.

I bent down to grab the Gatorade I’d purchased from the machine and that’s when I felt someone slap my ass. Thinking it might be Adam, I smiled and turned around. My grin quickly faded when I saw Vaughn standing there.

“What the hell?” I snapped, glaring at him.

“Sorry. You always did have a nice fucking ass,” he said, swaying.

What was it about guys going after my ass?

Vaughn’s eyes were bloodshot and he reeked of alcohol. Apparently, he’d been partying all night.

I tried moving around him but he blocked me. “What’s going on with you and Knight?”

“None of your business. Do you mind?”

His eyes wandered over me. “You know I always had the hots for you. I even told him to go easy on you a few times. Remember that night someone left a bag of shit on your front doorstep?”

  “No.”

He smiled proudly. “Exactly. That’s because I stopped him from doing it.”

“Right. Look, if you don’t get out of my way, I’m going to find your girlfriend and tell her what a piece of shit you are.”

He frowned. “I just told you how I stood up for you and now you’re threatening me? That’s cold and cruel.”

“So is acting like I owe you something. Now, get out of my way before I scream.”

He stood back. “Fine. I just can’t believe you’re stupid enough to fall for his bullshit. You know, he always did say he’d bang you, one way or another. He used to joke about it all the time. Said he’d probably need to put a bag over your head, though, so he could keep his hard on.”

His words stung. It sounded exactly like something Adam would have said, too. And that hurt the worst.

Upset, I headed back to the motel room. When I walked into the room, Adam was putting on his boots.

He smiled when he saw the two Gatorades I was carrying. “Nice. One of those for me?”

I thought I’d put the past behind me but all I could think about was what Vaughn had said about me falling for Adam’s bullshit.

Had he fucked me just to prove something?

“Yeah. Here.” I threw it at him and he almost dropped it.

“Whoa. Thanks,” he replied, giving me a strange look. He cracked open the bottle and took a sip. “Everything okay?”

  “Yeah. We should get going.”

He stood up and walked over to me. “What’s wrong?”

  “Nothing.”

He touched my arm. “Did I do something wrong?”

I avoided his eyes. “No. I’m just tired and want to get moving. Plus, it’s almost nine.”

He looked at the clock. “Shit, yeah. I don’t want to get charged a late fee. Unless,” he grinned, “you wanna have a repeat of last night? We could order in food and stay in bed all day.”

“No. I need to get back.”

He was silent for a few seconds, studying me. Sighing, he nodded. “Okay.”

Fortunately, the snow had stopped several hours ago and the plows had made it easier to drive.

“We must have had a foot of snow last night,” I said to Chloe when we were in the truck. “Hopefully, that’s it until next winter.”

  She nodded.

Something was definitely wrong with her. She was distant and now avoided all eye contact with me. She wouldn’t even stop anywhere to have a n
ice breakfast, which I’d been hoping to enjoy with her. In the end, I went through a Mc Donald’s drive-thru and ordered a couple of breakfast sandwiches and some coffee.

“You sure you don’t want anything?” I asked as we were driving away. “I’ll be happy to stop anywhere for you, if you don’t want Mc Donald’s.”

“I’m good.” She stared out the passenger window.

Yeah, something was clearly on her mind. I decided to ask her point-blank if she was regretting last night.

  She didn’t answer.

Frustrated, I pulled over to the side of the road. “Chloe. Talk to me. Please.”

Her eyes met mine and they were filled with anger. “Fine. I ran into Vaughn this morning. He said you used to brag about how you’d sleep with me one day. I’m surprised you were able to keep it up without a bag over my head.”

  I groaned.

  Fucking Vaughn.

“Why are you listening to that piece of shit?” I replied, frustrated. “He’s a tool. Always has been.”

“So, you never told him that?” she asked coldly.

I thought about lying, but knew she wasn’t an idiot.

“Yeah, but I was a young asshole who said a lot of stupid things. You know that.” I reached for her hand. “The truth is I’ve always wanted you, Chloe. I’ve always had a thing for you. Jesus, that time I kissed you at the beach? I never stopped thinking about it.”

She pulled her hand away. “Yeah, I remember that too. I also remember how you did it for money.”

“That wasn’t the only reason. Look, I’m sorry. I was a complete dick to you back then. My ego was bruised after you punched me in front of my friends and-”

She cut in. “Boo hoo. Poor Adam. I’m sorry, but you were a bully before I ever hit you.”

Not to her though. But that was beside the point. I just wanted her to forgive me. “Yeah, you’re right. I was. I swear, Chloe, if I could take it all back, I would.”

  She sighed and looked away.

  “Chloe.”

  She turned back to me.

I touched her face tenderly. “You know there’s something special between us. I honestly never felt this way about anyone before. And it’s not just about the sex.”

  Her eyes searched mine.

“Please, give me a chance to try and make it all up to you. Whatever it takes. I just wanna be with you.”

  Chloe nodded.

Relieved, I leaned forward and we kissed.

The rest of the ride was much better. She relaxed and we started talking again. It was such a relief. I’d thought I’d lost her and we’d barely found each other.

When we finally arrived at her house, I noticed an older woman with white hair and blue glasses pushing a snow-blower.

“That’s my grandmother.” Chloe sighed. “I told her I’d take care of that when I got home.”

I shut off my truck engine. “I’ll do it. You go and get your homework done.”

She stared at me. “You don’t have to.”

  “I know. I want to.”

  “Thank you.”

  “Of course.”

“Wait. Just a warning, she’s old fashioned about certain things. Don’t tell her about the motel. She thinks we stayed at Rob and Lina’s.”

  “No problem.”

We got out of the truck and walked over to her grandmother.

Seeing us, Rae turned off the snow-blower and removed her eyeglasses, which were fogged up.

“You made it back. Thank goodness, I was worried about the roads.” She took out a tissue from her pocket and began wiping her glasses. “I imagine it there are a lot of vehicles in ditches.”

“No. The roads aren’t too bad now. By the way, I’m Adam Knight. It’s nice to meet you.” I held out my hand.

“Nice to meet you, too.” She smiled up at me. “I’m Rae Maverick. I know your mother. She’s a sweetie.”

I nodded. “Yeah. She mentioned that.”

“How was your ghost hunting? Did you encounter any spooky spirits?”

  Chloe told her what happened.

Rae put a hand to her chest. “Oh, that poor boy. Hopefully things work out with his family.”

“Yeah. I’m just glad we found the kid before something really bad happened. He’d been planning on sleeping in the barn. He could have died.”

  She agreed.

I nodded toward the snow-blower. “You wouldn’t mind if I took over for you?”

Rae looked surprised. “Oh, you don’t have to do that.”

“No, I insist. I actually enjoy clearing snow.”

She looked at Chloe and then back to me. Rae chuckled. “Okay, then. Be my guest. If you run out of gasoline, there’s more in the shed.”

“Sounds good.” I pulled my gloves out of my pocket. “Thanks for letting me help out.”

“Any time, dear. Any time,” she replied.

  Smiling, I started the snow-blower.

“My goodness, he’s a gentleman. And a hunk to boot,” Grandma Rae said when we were in the kitchen. “Even cuter than on television.”

  I agreed.

She started making a pot of coffee. “So, tell me. Are there any sparks going on between the two of you?”

  I smiled. “Maybe.”

“I guess that answers that. Just be careful. He’s handsome and a celebrity. I know you just got over your last boyfriend and I don’t want to see you hurt.”

“I’ll be fine. We’re just having fun. Nothing serious.”

“Good. You’re young. Just like I keep trying to tell Mackenzie. Don’t get me wrong, I love Chase. It’s just that he’s already living alone and they spend so much time together. I hope,” she lowered her voice, “she’s being careful.”

“Yeah. I’m sure she’s playing it safe. If they’re even having sex.”

She cringed. “Don’t mention that word in the same sentence as our little Mackenzie.”

I chuckled. “She isn’t so little anymore.”

“Yeah, I know. Not much younger than you. Let me pretend you’re both little while I still can.”

  I snorted. “Where is Mackenzie?”

“Working. She started at nine this morning. By the way, she mentioned that they have an opening at the diner now. If you’re still interested in getting a job there.”

“I don’t know if I could handle serving food on roller-skates. I’m already a klutz on flat feet.”

“I couldn’t do it either. Never did well on skates. Anyway, you’ll have plenty of time this summer to look for a part time job. I think it’s important to focus on your studies now anyway. If you need any extra money…”

  “I’m good. Thank you.”

My parents had sent me some at the beginning of the month. They preferred I didn’t work while in college. Especially, since they were helping to pay for it. They didn’t want my grades falling. I had to admit, however, I was starting to go stir-crazy, in more ways than one. I preferred earning my own spending money and I actually liked working.

“How was your dinner with John?”

She smiled and I noticed an extra sparkle in her eyes. “It was… nice.”

“Something tells me it was better than nice.”

She opened her mouth to say something and then appeared to change her mind.

Now I was really intrigued. “What?”

  “I’ll be right back.”

Grandma Rae left the kitchen and then came back a short time later, carrying a small box.

My eyes widened. “No way. John bought you a ring?”

She cleared her throat and opened it. Inside was a gorgeous diamond ring.

  “Is that an engagement ring?”

She nodded. “Yes. John asked me to marry him last night.”

She didn’t sound as thrilled about it as I would have expected. “What did you say?”

“I told him I’d have to think about it. But, I’m going to give him the ring back.”

  My jaw droppe
d. “Why? You love John. Right?”

  “Yes. That’s not it.”

  “What is it then?”

“I’m just too old to get married again. It’s silly.”

  “You are not!”

  She shrugged.

“I can’t believe that you, of all people, would say that you’re too old for anything. Aren’t you the one who always said that if you want something bad enough, go for it? That you’re never too old to try new things?”

“Yes, I know. It’s not like I’m saying I can’t do it. I’m just… I don’t know if I want to. I’ve already been happily married and I just don’t think I want to go through all of that again.”

“I don’t understand. You loved being married to Grandpa. You always said that.”

Her eyes grew misty. She smiled sadly. “Yes, but losing him just about killed me. If it wasn’t for the kids, I don’t know what I would have done.”

  I sighed.

“I’ve lost too many people close to me. My older brother. Your aunt. Many of my friends.”

“Wait, let me get this straight. You’re worried about losing John and that’s why you won’t marry him?”

  She nodded.

“Grandma, you can’t be worried about what tomorrow brings. You’ve got to live for today.” I snorted. “Great, now I sound like a Hallmark card.”

“Or an inspirational poster. There’s one at my doctor’s office that says something very similar.” She sighed. “I know I shouldn’t worry about it, but when you get to be my age, falling in love again is scary.”

  “You do love him?”

  She nodded.

“So, what are you going to do? Push him away so that you’re both miserable?”

She shrugged and looked away. “If I let him go now, he can… he can find someone else.”

“That’s not really fair. For either of you. I mean, what if he doesn’t? What if he lives the rest of his life with a broken heart, because you were too afraid of getting yours broken first?”
