Dangerously His: 4 (Loving Dangerously) Page 20

by A. M. Griffin

“No. That’s her dream. JB can make those dreams come true. He’s the perfect male to do so.”

“What makes him so perfect? He was a renegade space pirate, for Ancients’ sake!”

“He is knowledgeable. He is cunning. And he loves her. I trust him with Saia.”

  Taio snorted.

  “Rasha trusts JB with her.”

“That’s because Rasha has never been responsible for anyone before. He doesn’t know any better.”

“According to your culture, he is now responsible for Jess.”

Taio laughed. “Does Jess know that?”

Ship joined in his laughter. So far, Jess handled all of Rasha’s affairs. She ran his life instead of him running hers.

“Rasha made the right decision. Trust me,” Ship finally said.

Taio ran a calloused hand down his face. He did trust Ship, and he trusted Rasha. He had to trust that Saia had given her heart to the right male.

“I hate it when you’re right,” he muttered under his breath.

“But that is all the time.”

  * * * * *

“Come on. I know you want it.”

The Liapo female picked up his hand and rubbed it against her bumpy pussy. JB shuddered and pulled it away.

“Disgusting!” he said as he wiped the slime coating his hand on the seat next to him.

She frowned, making her facial tattoo create another design. “Most human males find my pussy appealing. They experience the best orgasms.”

He wasn’t most human males. “I have a mate.”

She giggled and tossed back her curly purple hair. The array of bangles on her arms clattered together. “That doesn’t matter.”

He growled. “It matters a whole hell of a lot.”

She quirked—or at least he thought she quirked—the thick purple unibrow that stretched across her face. “Not if you’re in here.”

He looked around the poorly lit club. Various species meandered around, groping each other or dancing. Alien music blasted from the speakers. Servers, humans and aliens alike, made their way through the throngs of partygoers, carrying trays of food and drink.

  “Where is she?”

“She’ll be back, and she won’t like that you’re trying to lure me away.”

She snaked an unusually long and unattractive tongue across her lips, nose, chin and neck. “Maybe I can keep you company until she returns?”

He couldn’t see his reflection but he was sure the look on his face was one of pure disgust.

“Help a female out, huh? It’s been a slow night. I’ll cut my usual fee in half.”

He choked. “You want me to pay to fuck you?”

She reached for his hand again. He tried to pull it away but she caught him and wouldn’t let go, dragging it between her legs again. “Just taste it. I’ll make you forget all about your mate.”

He struggled to get his hand back. “No means no.” Where was the security in this dump? He was about to get raped by an ugly alien.

  “Do you need help?”

He’d know that voice anywhere. He turned sharply. “Saia!”

She looked so out of place in a hole like this. She wore a white loose-fitting pantsuit. Her black hair hung at her sides. She radiated a glowing perfection. She was beautiful.

She stepped forward and clicked on her com-link. Light illuminated from the device.

The Liapo’s eyes flashed from blue to green to orange. Her hair became alive with snakes that stood on end and hissed at Saia. The Liapo opened her mouth, revealing two rows of small, sharp teeth. “He’s mine.”

“No, he’s mine.” Saia took another step forward and the Liapo slunk away.

JB went to wipe his hand on his pants leg but Saia caught him. “It’s poison.”

He stared at his hand in disbelief. “She was trying to kill me?”

Saia chuckled and waved down a server. “He doesn’t require the services of a Liapo,” she said to the human.

The woman handed Saia a small packet. She tore it open and wiped down both of his hands. “She wasn’t trying to kill you. She was going to fuck you. The poison is like a drug…very addictive. She expected you to lick your fingers.”

  JB considered vomiting.

Saia handed the wipe to the server and thanked her. “You would’ve given her all your credits.” She smiled at him. “I learned about them when I was younger. I’ve never met one before. Interesting. They’re prettier than in the holograms.”

“That was not pretty. We need to get you out more,” he said, standing.

“You don’t think she was pretty?”

“No one is prettier than you.” His mouth crushed hers. His hands cradled her face. He abruptly pulled away. “What took you so long? See what happens when you leave me alone? Strangers try to poison me.”

“And then I would have given you the antidote.”

He pulled her close. “That’s why we make a good team. I think I’ll call you the antidote giver.”

“You get to be Justin the ex-pirate and I get to be Saia the antidote giver?” She snorted. “I think not.”

He kissed her head. “Why not? It suits you.”

She chuckled and put her head on his shoulder. “I don’t know what I’m going to do with you.”

He looked up—and his eyes locked on Rasha and Jess. JB froze. “Saia, when I tell you to, run to the transporter.”

Rasha and Jess approached. “Hey,” Jess said. “It’s great to see you again.”

He yanked Saia behind him. “Now!”

  But she didn’t move.

  “Justin,” she said. “It’s fine.”

He shook his head. Seeing them couldn’t be good. Not when he and Saia were on the run.

“Jess, I love you, but I can’t let you take her away from me.”

Saia stepped forward. “They aren’t here to take me away.”

  “What do you mean?”

Saia looked sheepishly at Rasha. “He’s going to see that the Galactic Council suppresses Ranuit Pi’s claim on me.” She tugged on JB’s shirt and kissed him. “You’re stuck with me.”

Rasha? He shook his head in confusion. “I know I should have been paying more attention when Eva was explaining your culture to me, but I am so confused.”

“Rasha is my oldest brother. King Xochis is dead. And Taio has forgiven you. I’ll explain the rest later.”

JB’s mind whirled. But there was only one thing that mattered. “No more running and hiding?”

“We’re truly free to do what we please—no more hiding.”

He yelled and picked her up, swinging her around as she giggled.

“I have put my trust in you to take care of my sister,” Rasha said when JB finally set her down.

JB grabbed Rasha in a bear hug. He instantly tried to push away, but JB held tight. “Thank you for all your help.”

Jess laughed and JB turned to her, giving her the same hug. “And you too for bringing me to Sonis.”

Rasha pulled Jess away. “That’s enough. She is grateful for your gratitude.”

JB turned back to Saia. “I’m going to spend my life making you happy.”

She put her hands up to his heart. “I know.”

The club thrummed with the beat of a new song.

“First things first.” He grabbed her hand and led her to the dance floor.

“What are you doing?” she shouted as they maneuvered past the dancers.

“Have you never been to a club before?” he asked as he found an open spot.

She looked around, shaking her head.

“Saia Blake, may I please have this dance?”

A tear dropped from her eye. “Yes, Justin Blake, you may.”

He pulled her close and they danced slowly. He would never let her go again.

“Um, Justin? Should we dance faster—adjust our rhythm to the music?”

  “No.”

He didn’t care if they looked out of place dancing slowly in the middle of
the fast-moving crowd. All that mattered was that Saia was his.

  Epilogue

JB watched as the wind whipped past Saia. With every gust, her hair swirled around her face, getting into her eyes and mouth.

Saia laughed and tried, to no avail, to move her hair out of the way.

“We can go back indoors if you want.”

She turned to him and smiled. His heart soared. “I’m fine out here.”

They were standing on the balcony of their guest suite in one of the fine homes situated on the town square.

“If you insist on watching the Gysoni’s night-to-day ceremony, then let me fix your hair.” She didn’t object as he moved behind her and twisted the heavy locks into a braid that streamed down her back. “You do know they do this every morning, don’t you?”

She tilted her chin up to the sky and took in a deep breath. “I know, but it’s amazing just the same.”

On the other side of the field, the Gysoni elders gave thanks to the sun god by reenacting their version of the story of creation. The elders used colorful props of puppets, animals and kites.

They had landed on Hagion late at night and had woken to the sounds of citizens in the square. Each town on the planet was doing the same reenactment at the same time.

Saia had been unable to contain her excitement over watching the show.

“Well, as enthused as I am to watch the elders dance and gyrate, I think I’ll go back to bed and catch the second show tomorrow.”

She pouted. “You will not! You promised we would do everything I want to do.”

“Saia, honey, that was over a year and thirty planets ago.”

They had only returned to Drazlan to pick up some of her belongings and to tell her mother goodbye. Saia thought for sure her mother wouldn’t want to stay there, not with everything that had happened, but her mother seemed to be thriving. With Olo gone, she had to see to Drazlan’s operations until Taio, the new king, could take over.

From there, they went to Sonis to thank Ship and Eva, and JB had begrudgingly thanked Taio for helping them with the Galactic Council.

The next stop had been to Laconia to visit with Sa’Mya and Kane. Saia took in all the sights Laconia had to offer. And then it was one planet after another. Taio had given them a comfortable-sized transporter as a bonding present. He wanted to give them royal guards to accompany them as well, but he and Saia both declined.

Exploring the galaxies and looking for Tina didn’t required royal guards.

Taio and Rasha had both filled their credit accounts so they wouldn’t be without while traveling, but really there had been no need. The Galactic Council had awarded Saia a lump sum of King Xochis’ credits as payment for him keeping her apart from Rasha and her real father for so many years.

She pushed out her bottom lip. “But it won’t be the same without you. This is the first time we’ll get to see the Gysoni perform their creation story. Tomorrow you can stay in bed. Please, let’s do this together.”

“Baby, you wore me out. I need to regain my strength.”

She pulled his pajama top, making him press against her. “I plan to continue to wear you out.”

  “Ummm, is that a threat?”

She nipped his lip. “That’s a promise, Justin Blake.”
