Looping my arms around his neck, I drop my head against his chest, covered in a bullet-proof vest.
“Thank you, Cord. You’re my hero. Had you not showed up…” My voice trembles but he stops me with the press of his lips against mine.
“Shhh, darlin. It’s over now.”
Realizing Trever is still on the floor, whimpering in pain, I lift my gaze to Cord’s face.
“How’d you know about Trever?”
Smoothing my hair down gently, his hands land on my shoulders in a steadying grasp.
“Darlin’, it’s my job to know these things.”
He grins a sexy smirk, the corners of his mouth quirking up, as I roll my eyes.
“Admit it,” I nudge him in the ribs over the hard exterior of his vest. “You were just being nosy and a busy-body like everyone else in this town, weren’t you?”
Cord laughs and shrugs his shoulder with a wink as his brother, Officer Jr. Clawson, rushes in the back door with paramedics at his side to handle the perp on my kitchen floor.
“Darlin, I knew at first sight you were a thief.”
My eyebrows shoot to my hairline. “Excuse me?”
“I knew the first time I laid eyes on you, Jordana Bolton, that you’d end up stealing my heart.”
Cord
“How did I let you con me into this again?” I ask Jordana in a scolding tone, peering over the large tub, where I’m bathing a dog named Ginger, who keeps nipping at my hands.
From across the small room, Jordana peers over her shoulder, a bright smile filled with a little bit of sauciness, shining back at me.
“I think you know exactly what I did to lock you down, Officer Clawson. And might I just add how susceptible you are to my persuasion tactics.”
Before she turns back to the dog she’s bathing, I notice the cute rosy-glow that climbs up her exposed neck and over her cheeks.
Oh yes, I know exactly what she did to get me to promise to help her today. It was last night, after we got back from walking Bella and Homer, who have become doggie BFFs, when she asked me to come along to help groom all the dogs today in preparation of the upcoming Thankful for Our Furry Friends event, happening the day after Thanksgiving.
It’s my off-duty weekend and she’s been inviting me along to help her at shelter for months, but I’ve never had a free moment.
“Cord, I would love to show you how much it would mean if you came with me tomorrow,” she cooed last night, running a hand over my crotch before sliding to her knees in front of the couch where I sat.
I raise an eyebrow. “Show me, huh?”
Her smile turned seductive, her hands stroking over my thighs as she licked her lips in a sexy maneuver. She began unbuttoning my shorts, pulling them down my legs and to the floor, leaving my hard cock saluting her in the air.
“Mmm-hmm,” she responded before parting her lips wide and covering the head of my cock with her mouth, swallowing me to the back of her throat.
I leaned back against the couch with a groan. “Oh, darlin’. I would do anything for you if you just keep doing that.”
And she did and here I am now without any complaints to speak of, except for the wet dog now shaking her wet coat all over me.
We’ve been together now for a little over four months, going into our first official holiday as a couple. After all that went down after the July Fourth bank robbery and then the subsequent attack from her ex – who is now serving time in the federal prison for his crimes – we’ve been inseparable.
And I mean what I said. I would do anything for this woman. She has turned my bleak, lonely life into something close to parades and fireworks every single day. Everyone, including me, loves Jordana.
She’s already been adopted by my family, and the town folk adore her. And animals…well, it’s only a theory I have, but I think she’s somewhat of an animal whisperer. She could charm even the most rabid of beasts.
Just like she’s charmed me.
I wasn’t joking when I told her she’d stolen my heart. It’s a crime I’ve accused her of over and over again. A crime that someday – maybe even very soon – I’ll need to press charges on. With an engagement ring and a proposal.
But for now, we’re both content living our small-town life together with our two rambunctious dogs, two cats, a lazy hamster, a lizard named Sneaky Pete and now even a bird, who honestly I think likes to watch us when we get it on.
Dirty, dirty, bird.
The End
Acknowledgments
My sincere thanks to my friend, Dean, for sharing with me his harrowing experiences involving bank robberies. As a bank teller back in the day, he experienced firsthand multiple robberies and even saved his newspaper clippings describing the events. I’m so glad he kept his wits about him in the middle of those scary encounters and lived to tell the tales.
Much love to my Flirt Club author friends. You all are such a fantastic group of writers and genuinely great people. So glad I get to write these fun, short stories with all of you.
