by Karen Harper
It felt so great, she thought, to resolve issues, to be content, not tense. To be home with the family and extended family of friends who had been with them through so much. Yes, it was wonderful to know the only wildlife facing them was a visit to a Florida wilderness animal rescue ranch tomorrow with Darcy and these little girls.
Claire leaned closer to Nick, and they kissed. Surely, after all that they’d been through, nothing else could harm them now.

Author’s Note
I hope you have enjoyed these first three books in the South Shores series—Chasing Shadows, Drowning Tides and Falling Darkness. Most of the books in this series will be set in Southern climates; however, I could not resist using Mackinac Island in Falling Darkness since I visited there last summer and fell in love with the unique place and its ambience of “somewhere in time.” I have been to all the places in these first three books—except for Cuba. I did interview people who had been there before the new US-Cuba relationship and read several books about life there under the Castros.
I would like to thank our friend Jim Parsons for sharing his expertise about and affection for Gene Autry, which helped me create the character of Hunter Logan. Jim, however, is of sound mind, and the Parsons home has many Autry pictures on the walls as well as collections of movies, TV shows and other Autry memorabilia. Thanks to Dr. Roy Manning for his information in these current, past and future books about pregnancy and delivery.
I am grateful to my literary agent, Annelise Robey, and my excellent MIRA editors who worked on these books with me, Nicole Brebner and Emily Ohanjanians, for their feedback and especially for help with titles for the novels.
Also to our friends Roy and Mary Anne Manning, for enjoying beautiful Mackinac Island with us. And ever and always, thanks to my husband, Don, for being proofreader, travel companion, business manager and for coping with an author who spends part of her time with fictional people.
I hope you will be looking for future stories starring Claire, Nick, Jace and their growing and extended family and friends, not to mention enemies.
