“Promise me we won’t always have to entertain the whole of your family at once,” Emlyn contemplated the debris of plates and food spread across the table with a long-suffering sigh.
“Don’t be so grumpy. The apartment is plenty big enough.” Katy popped a stray grape into her mouth and then started stacking plates.
His eyes twinkling, he moved silently across the floor behind her. Not knowing he was there, she collided with him as she turned towards the kitchen.
“Don’t do that. I could have dropped the plates,” she scolded.
He didn’t answer as he took them from her and replaced them gently on the table. Then, still not talking, he picked her up and carried her through to a bedroom that still bore the signs of having been invaded by very small children, and lowered her onto the bed.
“We’re not clearing up then?” Her voice was husky.
“We’re not clearing up,” he agreed. “Nor are we having any more visitors for at least a week.”
“So I’ll tell Paul he can’t come to stay next Wednesday night then, shall I?”
Ignoring her teasing, he lowered himself onto the bed beside her, leaned on one elbow and began, very slowly, to undo the buttons on her dress. When he finished she gave a little sigh as he pushed it open and began to trail his fingers across the rounded curves of her body. Then she rolled onto her side and began to explore the parts of his body that were now as familiar to her as her own.
He smiled at her as he drew in a deep breath. “So sexy! Whatever happened to shy Nurse Gray who blushed every time I said anything provocative, and who wanted to live somewhere unobtrusive and quiet for the whole of her life, because if you know where she is then I might just reconsider my options.”
“She’s long gone so you’re too late,” Katy teased as she wriggled away from his questing fingers, sat up and unhooked her bra.
His stomach flipped, as it always did when he saw her full breasts, and she followed the direction of his gaze with a smile of satisfaction. Then she leaned over and kissed him.
“I love you, you know, and even more, I love that you saved me from myself by making me do what I really wanted to do and be who I really wanted to be.”
“I love you too, Katy Gray née Brooks, and now we’re alone again I intend to take up where we left off, so stop talking and let me show you just how much before our next lot of visitors arrive.”
