“And just how do you plan on stopping me?”

My heart quickened at the teasing tone in his soft, southern drawl. I drew myself up tall and fired back.

“I’m not. I’m going with you.”

A crooked grin pulled his lips. “What?”

“You heard me. If you aren’t ever riding back, then I’m coming with you. Always by your side. Forever.”

“What about the ranch? Those precious horses of yours?”

Oh if he thought I didn’t have an answer for that one he was sadly mistaken.

“I’ll make Inky a partner. Be a nice wedding present for him and Cinnamon.”

His dimples deepened. Those damn cute dimples that made me wilt.

“I’ll become a Pinkerton Detective.” I rushed on. “We’ll be the first man and wife Pinkerton team. Together we’ll track down all the Whitakers in this wild territory. Bring them to justice.”

“Whoa! Slow down. Man and wife?”

“You got a problem with that, lawman?”

He pulled me tight to his side.

“Nope. Just like the way it sounds.”

  “We’ll be famous.”

“Famous, huh?” He chuckled. “Think someday some author fella will write one of those dime novels about us?”

“Yep. I can see the title now.” I snuggled closer into him.

“The Legend of Dixie Dandelion and Tall Warrior Jack.”

He spun me around to gaze up at him. Every bone in my body melted, but I knew I wouldn’t fall. Knew I could trust him to always be there to catch me.

“And every man for years and years to come will read the words and say, ‘That Dixie was one hell of a woman!’”

“And every woman will fall in love with Tall Warrior Jack,” I added.

  He laughed. Deep and rich.

“What?” I grinned. “You don’t think folks will remember our names?”

  “Oh, darlin’.”

He lowered his lips to claim mine. “Of that I have no doubt.”
