“Piper Raley, will you marry me?”
I kiss him. I never technically answer his question. Not unless you consider me leading him into a wooded area and making him fuck me up against a tree as an answer.
As we sneak out of the woods like a couple of guilty teenagers, Alec starts hunting around on the floor and picks up a daisy.
“What are you doing?” I ask. Alec has never been one to appreciate the natural beauty of plants. He ‘accidentally’ forgot to water the flowers I bought for his apartment, so they died within the week. He didn’t look devastated.
“I’m putting a ring on your finger, whether you like it or not. I want everyone to know you’re taken.”
Alec fiddles with the daisy and manages to make a hole in the stem that he can weave the end through. He carefully slides it over my ring finger.
“It’s beautiful,” I say softly. “It’ll fall off within the hour, but for now, it’s beautiful.”
“It seemed romantic in my head.”
We kiss again, and Alec is already urging me back towards the woods.
“We need to get to the reception,” I insist. “I don’t want to go there with a grass stain on my butt.”
“I’m taking you to the bathroom as soon as we get there.”
“Is that any way to treat your future wife? You could at least get me a slice of pizza first.”
