Ryan looked at her and moved close enough for her to feel his warm breath on her face. “Alex please can I kiss you?”

Alex leaned forward and kissed him on the lips, she felt him kiss her back, soon their lips parted and his tongue was in her mouth. Ryan began to run his hand around her back, Alex moved hers to touch his chest; she began to move her hand into his shirt, unfastening each button one by one, then pulling his shirt off completely. She stopped kissing him and looked at him, there was a tattoo on one side of his chest; it was some sort of script.

Ryan smiled, “It’s an ancient tribal thing, it was given to me when we were taken in by the wolf pack.”

Alex ran her fingertips over it, “It’s beautiful what does it mean?”

“It’s my wolf name, but we can keep that for another day.” He pulled Alex closer again and began to take off her top, she leaned back and pulled off her skirt and lay back on the bed in just her underwear.

“Are you sure about this Alex, I can wait if you want.”

“I have never wanted anything so much.”

He kissed her neck, licking and nibbling her softly, taking his time to explore, he had waited a long time for this and wanted to enjoy every second.

Alex groaned with pleasure as his lips softly explored the fullness of her breasts, she wanted him to take them out of her bra and taste her nipples. But he continued down her stomach, kissing every inch of her body, right down to her ankles.

Alex sat up and tugged at Ryan’s jeans, pulling them off, leaving him in just his boxer shorts, he was sexy as hell. She pulled him down to the bed. She wanted to explore every muscle of his gorgeous body. He felt strong and smooth, she kissed his tattoo, and licked his nipples. She reached down to cup his groin, she heard him let out a groan.

Ryan’s hands were again wrapped around her back tearing at the clasp of her bra, he took her breast in his mouth, sucking and licking her nipple, making it rigid with desire.

Alex was in ecstasy, she wanted him so badly, wanted this, to make love, not be told how to do things, or ordered about, just to make love because they wanted to. She reached down and pulled off her knickers, Ryan looked up from her breasts and smiled and then stepped out of his underwear. They were soon entwined, and they couldn’t get enough of each other; they wanted to explore every part of the other.

Ryan could take no more and he climbed on top of her and slowly entered her. Alex breathed deeply, taking his full hard length in. They moved rhythmically to bring each other to the tip of explosion. They both came together fused by love. Alex wanted more, she didn’t want this to stop; she climbed on top and began to ride him again, starting off slowly. This man could hold his own for a long time, thought Alex, she didn’t have to take control. Or perhaps he or they just both wanted each other so badly. Was it the magic they both possessed or was it he animal in him? Whatever it was, she knew she didn’t want to stop.

She rode him faster until they came again, then she rested her head on his chest listening to his beating heart. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight not wanting to let her go. He kissed her gently on the forehead. Alex smiled at him. For the first time in a while she felt normal, and she realised the big difference between obsession and love. The gap between owning someone and being free to please another. She knew that Gary was right. He couldn’t have carried on with her, he needed control at all times. What they did together was sex not making love, it was punishment and training. It wasn’t about real love for someone.

“Thank you,” she said kissing Ryan’s soft lips.

  “For what?”

“For showing me the true meaning of trust and love, I do believe this was the first time I‘ve really made love with someone.”

“Well, it was a first for me too. I’ve only ever had quick one night stands before mainly just for relief but nothing that has made me feel whole inside. I do believe Alex you are my soul mate, my true love, that must have been what the letter signified, that we are made for each other.”

Alex was completely happy and lay back on his chest.

“As much I would love nothing more than to spend the rest of the day and night right here with you, I do think we should get up and have something to eat at least,” laughed Ryan.

“I supposed we should. Nick will be wondering where we are and we do not want to him find us like this now do we?” said Alex.

She sat up and began to pick up her clothes, “I think I’m going to have a bath, you can join me if you like.”

“You go ahead; I will make a start on some dinner. Do you want it here or at the cottage?”

“We will have it here and invite Betty along as well if that’s ok? I would love for her to see the inside of the house.”

“You like Betty, don’t you!” said Ryan as he got dressed.

“Yes, she’s a good listener, she’s been there for me, sometimes you need a woman to talk to, what with Marie being so far away.”

“I understand Alex, but this will soon be over and everything can get back to normal and Marie can come over,” said Ryan and kissed her again and left her to get ready.

If only there was a way to get Marie here, without putting her in harm’s way, thought Alex. She ran the bath thinking about ways to see Marie. She sank into the bath and let her mind wander as the soapy bubbles clung to her body.

When she got out the bath she said to herself, Where’s that book? I wonder if there is anything in there? She looked in the bedroom then remembered she’d left it downstairs. Alex quickly ran down and collected the book off the bottom stair.

She began flicking through for something that would help, after about 5 minutes she gave up and put the book on the bed.

She lay down and let her mind go blank. There must be something. A way to go undetected by those night crawlers. Alex sat up and pushed her damp hair away from her face, she looked at the book and it opened and the pages began to turn then fell open. Alex looked at the page where it had stopped.

Invisibility! She leaned over and read it out loud, to get by people undetected, use the invisibility spell, combined with a protection spell. I can do those, no problem, I have a protection spell on me already thanks to my mother and I know I can go invisible, I could get there and back without anyone knowing. Alex smiled and closed the book; she finished drying her hair and then got dressed.

Alex placed the book in a drawer and then went to find Ryan. He was cooking up a storm in the kitchen and he turned and smiled lovingly when Alex came in.

“This kitchen is great, it’s got everything, including cupboards full of food I might add,” said Ryan.

“Well thank you, I aim to please, but I didn’t put food in the cupboards,” said Alex walking over to take a look.

“I know, but I fixed that, along with all the utensils, you hadn’t got any plates or saucepans, but that’s ok, like I say I have added the finishing touches,” said Ryan.

“Sorry, it was so much fun that I forgot the important stuff,” Alex began to laugh; Ryan loved to see her happy.

“Nick and Betty will be here soon, Betty’s excited about seeing inside the house,” he said.

“Is there anything I can help you with?” asked Alex.

“You can go and find Nick and Betty for me,” said Ryan and returned to cooking.

Alex left the kitchen and went to the door, she opened it just as Betty and Nick reached it.

“Hello, that was great timing, I was just coming to find you two,” said Alex.

“I could smell the food, so knew it was time,” said Nick making one of his little jokes.

“Yes I’m not sure how he knew that, but I agreed to follow him on the off chance it was ready,” said Betty.

Alex laughed and ushered them in.

“Wow, this place is fantastic, you did well,” said Nick. “Is Ryan in the kitchen? I’ll go find him and leave you women to it,” said Nick as he wondered off looking around as he went through to the kitchen.

  “He’s a stra
nge one, that boy,” said Betty laughing.

“More than you know Betty, well, what do you think?” said Alex

“This is gorgeous Alex, you have worked hard,” answered Betty. Alex took hold of Betty’s arm and led her through the dining room and then to the living room. They sat down and waited for the others.

“It looks like you have restored this room back to how it would have been when the owners lived here,” said Betty, her eyes glistened as though she was remembering something.

“I had help from Ryan. I love it, and it has made the house live up to your beautiful garden.”

“You mean you love him, I can see the change Alex, you seem a different woman today. I always knew you two would get together.”

“Yes well I sorted a lot of things out, out with the old and in with the new as they say,” laughed Alex.

Ryan came in, “That’s a nice sight: two beautiful women filling the room with laughter.”

“Thank you for saying that,” said Betty, “Now is dinner done? I’m starving.”

Ryan laughed “Come on then, dinner is served, ladies!”

They followed Ryan into the dining room. The table looked lovely: bowls in the centre were filled with potatoes and vegetables of all kinds, medium rare roast lamb was laid out in thick slices on a serving tray, there was even a gravy boat.

“This is great Ryan, I haven’t had a home cooked dinner in ages,” said Alex.

“Come sit. Nick, get these girls a drink,” Ryan showed Alex and Betty in turn to their seats. Alex watched as Ryan began to serve them, this man had wonderful old-fashioned manners, he was kind and caring. This one’s a keeper, thought Alex.

Nick returned with the drinks and sat down. “We’re just like one happy little family, now eat up and let’s make merry.”

Alex smiled, this was just what she’d always wanted, to have friends and loved ones around. For the first time in what felt like a very long time, she was happy.

  Chapter Twenty One

It was late and Nick was locked up for the night. Ryan had taken Betty home. He insisted on walking her home himself, making excuses for Nick, saying he’d had too much to drink. Alex was now alone and she knew it was now or never. Alex focused on Marie’s cottage, imagining herself outside the cottage walking up to the front door, she closed her eyes for a minute and then opened them.

Alex was now standing outside Marie’s cottage. She was getting good at this, she looked around for signs of anyone following her. She went invisible and looked around again and she saw a car parked outside Marie’s cottage, it was Gary’s.

Alex blinked and then was inside Marie’s cottage, she could hear Gary talking to Marie, she remained invisible and went closer to listen. They were both in the living room so Alex went in but stood out the way, hoping Marie wouldn’t sense her, she didn’t want to face Gary.

“So, we have sorted it out now, she will be happy there now and free to live her life her way. I didn’t want to keep controlling and ruining her life, but I hope we can stay friends Marie. I know how close you guys are, and believe me I never wanted me and Alex to end like that, but I think, well we think it’s for the best all round.”

Marie nodded. “Of course we can still be friends but don’t be asking for info on Alex, because that isn’t going to happen. I’m your friend Gary and have been for a long time but Alex is my best friend and that is because of you, if you hadn’t brought her here I would never have met her. She has become more like a sister to me. It was an omen, because you never bring girls here, so you deep down, as much as you try not to admit it, you had feelings for Alex you have never had before for any other girl.”

“I know, that’s part of the reason we needed to go our own ways. I didn’t want to end up with her turning into something she would hate. Of course Marie, I wouldn’t expect that of you, it’s best I don’t know anyway, the less I know the better, I still have feelings for her and I wouldn’t want them turning into jealousy and causing more harm.”

Marie smiled and gave him a hug. Gary stood up to leave.

“Bye for now Marie and thank you for listening to my side of the story, we will speak soon.”

He turned and went towards the door, Alex hadn’t realised she had moved from the corner to get closer to Gary and Marie, it was too late as he came towards her, Alex froze to the spot. Gary went right through her, she’d forgotten that while in her invisible form she was immaterial like a ghost.

Gary stopped and turned, it was like he was looking straight at her. Alex didn’t move, just observed him, his eyes were piercing straight into her, he smiled, and then finally turned round with a shake of his head.

“Bye then, see you around,” he said and left.

Alex waited for the front door to close and let out a deep breath.

She turned round to look for Marie; Marie was smiling at her.

“You can take the invisibility spell off now, Alex.”

“You knew where I was then?”

“Maybe I’m losing my touch, but it was when Gary had left the room I noticed him turn and he seemed strange there for a second, then I got a sense that someone was in the room,” said Marie.

“You don’t think he knew I was here, do you?” asked Alex.

“Of course not, now come and give me a hug.”

Alex didn’t move, remembering the last time she’d touched Marie.

“Come on, you will be fine,” said Marie, but before Alex had a chance to think Marie jumped forward and flung her arms around her.

Alex stiffened, waiting for the pain to come, but there was none.

“Have you taken your protection off?” asked Alex.

“No, it’s because you have accepted what you are and so my spell cannot harm another witch, silly,” laughed Marie.

“Now come, we need to catch up.” Marie grabbed her hand and dragged her to the sofa and ran to fetch drinks.

Marie returned with a smile and two glasses. “You risked yourself, you know, coming here, it’s still dangerous to travel,” said Marie.

“I know. I have met one of those diabolical creatures, remember, at the cemetery and I don’t want to run into one again. Or those other beasts that killed my father.”

“You saw the one that killed your father? I’ve only heard stories about them but I’ve never seen one, and here’s you who’s seen both types and you’re still here!” said Marie

“I saw the other in a vision, not face to face. Thank God!” said Alex and she began to explain the crystal ball in the attic and what it had showed her.

“I sure will be glad when the next few days are over, during the Alignment their tracking skills are heightened so they can find us really easily. I really can’t wait to come to yours and have a look around,” said Marie.

“Well that is part of the reason I came here. Firstly I’m missing talking to you, it’s not the same over the phone. Secondly, there’s something I need to tell you.”

“How can you be lonely with Ryan to keep you company?”

“Yes, he’s been great, and we have gotten closer, even with everything that has gone on, but Marie I haven’t come here to talk about me and Ryan, it’s about Nick,” said Alex.

Marie took a gulp of her drink and looked at Alex with fear in her heart. “Nick! Has Ryan told you where he is or has something happened, oh Alex just tell me! It’s bad isn’t it! You wouldn’t have come here if it wasn’t.” Marie was on the verge of tears.

“Marie, Nick is alive, he’s at mine, but there’s something you need to know, and I wanted to tell you first so you can understand, you two should be together forever. I can see how much he loves you,” said Alex.

“He’s with you, why didn’t he tell me, why didn’t you call and tell me?” asked Marie, for the first time she felt anger towards Alex.

“I didn’t know at first, and then he asked me not to tell you yet, he was worried you would try to get out to us and he didn’t want you getting hurt.”

  “Don’t y
ou think I should have at least been given the option? At least you could have told me he was alive. I have been in agony for years wondering where he was,” said Marie.

“He and Ryan had to leave, if they’d stayed people would have been killed,” shouted Alex, trying to get Marie to calm down.

  “I don’t understand.”

Alex began to explain why Ryan and Nick had left and how they had been living with the werewolf pack, learning how to live with their curse. Marie listened in disbelief.

“So Nick was bitten or whatever, and is now a werewolf!” said Marie.

“Yes, Marie, if he’s anything like Ryan, he is still the person you know and love, nothing has changed there. I wanted to see you to give you a chance to understand before you saw him. I don’t want you two to fall out.”

Marie went quiet, Alex waited for her to speak.

“Does Nick know you came here to tell me all this?” asked Marie.

“No, He wanted to tell you himself, but I knew this would be hard for you to take in. I was a little taken back myself, when Ryan told me, but with everything being thrown at me at once, I was able to accept it. But for you, this is different, this is someone you have loved for a long time and this has happened to him. It’s changed him, that’s why I thought you needed to know from me in person,” said Alex.

“When can I see him?” asked Marie.

“You can see him after the Alignment, it not safe around him at the moment.”

“What do you mean? I thought you said he’d trained to live with what he is.”

“He has, they both have, but somehow, the Alignment is affecting him differently from Ryan,” said Alex.

  “Different how?” asked Marie.

Alex explained how Nick was chained up each night, to prevent him from killing. She told her about the homeless man he’d killed but that it was not his true self, it was the wolf overpowering his judgement.

Marie wept. Alex wrapped her arms around her until the crying stopped.
