   “I’m sorry this happened to you,” I said to her, wiping a blond strand of hair from her face, “I’m so sorry.”
   Her eyelids fluttered and a burst of energy threw me back against the wall. Useless air was driven from my lungs and I fell to the ground in a heap.
   “Don’t be sorry, Brit I’m better,” Betty said.
