“Brooke, you need to keep your voice down, they will come over here and kill us if they suspect we’re talking to one another.”

“At this point Amber, who the fuck cares? Do you honestly think we’re going to get out of here alive? Look around, does it look like we have freedom here? How long before it’s us screaming like those other women I heard earlier?”

“I know you’re angry Brooke but you need to hold it together. Look, the bureau knows about this underground sex ring. They will be looking for us and if I know your husband, he and his Russian friend will slit people’s throats to find you. Now, can you calm down so I can finish telling you?”

  “I guess,” I said irritated.

“Your attack was staged Brooke. Stefan was never going to rape you. He roughed you up so Dylan would come running to your side. He knew that he had a thing for you even before you two started dating. Don’t ask; it’s our job to know these things. You would be surprised at the shit we know. The governor had mentioned that Dylan fixed crimes for some of his buddies and that he would be able to help us with this case, but knew that Dylan would never help Stefan unless you were somehow involved, because Dylan believed Stefan to be nothing but shit.”

“Sounds to me like Dylan was right,” I said.

“Actually Brooke, Stefan is a really good man. Like I said, you’ll need to take that up with him if you make it out alive.”

“What about your death Amber?” “What was the point in that?”

“You really don’t know Brooke? After all I’ve told you?”

“No, I guess not,” I replied.

“Tristan returned early and organized the scene. Then once it was all setup the governor called Dylan and he came over. He was pissed when he learned what we had done but agreed that it was for the best until we could catch whoever was involved.”

“I still don’t understand what this has to do with me. The only two things I have in common with this bullshit are Dylan and Stefan. So are you trying to tell me that one of those two is involved with this mess?”

“No Brooke. What I am saying is that someone very close to you is a complete dirt bag and we’re not sure who it is. I can honestly tell you that it isn’t Dylan or Stefan, both have actually been working their asses off to keep you safe all this time.”

“So who is that you suspect is close to me?’ I asked.

“Shh, someone is coming,” Amber said.

I leaned against the cold wall, closed my eyes and listened as someone entered my cell. Another sharp prick in the arm and I was out, all conversations gone from my mind.

  ***

I woke to screams once again coming from the cell next to me. I couldn’t see what they were doing to the girl but I could hear the fear and pain in her cries. Every night it was the same, the men would come, the women would scream and then I’d be shot in the arm and black out. I kept wondering when they would come for me next. I was losing all sense of hope that someone would find me as I began to drift further the life I once knew. I was hungry and sick, with no one around to help me.

Two men came to visit on the night I couldn’t stop screaming from pain. A flash a light shown in my eyes but it was so bright I couldn’t see their faces. They spoke in Russian with heavy accents, leaving me to ponder what they might be saying. I had hoped that they were going to release me, so that I could back to wherever it was that I came from. Another shot was given to me, enabling me to forget my pain and who I might be.

  ***

I slept for what seemed like days. There had been no screaming and I believed that maybe I was just having a nightmare. I didn’t want to be in the hell I had been dreaming about. It was an awful place, the only refuge being the small window that looked out from my cell. I was dreaming again, I knew I had to be but I still didn’t know where I belonged. A man in a white coat came to check on me, I hadn’t been dreaming after all. I was really here, lying on the cold, metal table.

“Am I dead,” I asked the man.

“No, young lady, you are very much alive,” he responded in a heavy Russian accent.

“Where am I?” I asked confused.

“You’re in the hospital and now you need your rest.”

“They’re not going to take me back down to the dungeon are they?” I asked trying not to cry.

“I don’t know. What they do with you, will depend on how well behave,” he answered.

“Do you know who I am?”

  “No. Do you?” he asked.

  “No,” I said sadly.

“Why am I here?” I asked.

“You really don’t know young lady?”

“No. I can’t remember my name or where I’m from.”

“My dear, you must rest but if you must know, your name is Alyssa and you are the mistress of Russian Prime Minister Kristof Constantine.”

“What happened to me? How did I end up in here?”

“You were three months pregnant and had a miscarriage my dear. I had to perform a D and C procedure on you. That’s probably why you’re feeling a little sore.”

  “Oh,” I responded quietly.

“Do you need some more medication Alyssa?” he asked.

“Yes please, that would be very nice.”

I lay on the table in hopes that the medicine would soon take care over my sore, aching body. How could I have not known I was pregnant? I asked myself as tears rolled down my cheek.

Why was I here and damn it why couldn’t I remember anything?

Something deep inside told me I couldn’t trust the good doctor but he was the only hope I had to remembering who I really was. The medicine took hold of me and I drifted off into a deep sleep. I dreamed of a man in a very large house, surrounded by lots of trees and beautiful gardens. He was tall, with dark hair and the bluest eyes I’d ever seen. We were walking hand in hand along the river bank and we were happy. He reached down and rubbed my belly, mouthing “I love you.” I moaned in pain trying to get comfortable on the hard table as I slept. This must be who the father of my baby is, I thought to myself. I must never tell anyone here about the man in my dreams. He probably isn’t real anyway but when I kissed him, I remember all the feelings that I had for him. Whoever he is, he must be very special to me.

I must have done something wrong, or hadn’t behaved because I found myself back in the cell. It must have been days since they had given me a shot because I was regaining some of my memory back. I remembered my discussion with the doctor and the mention of the loss of my baby. It broke my heart to have lost something as precious as a child. I rubbed my belly thinking of what could have been as I silently mourned the loss of the one thing I wanted more than anything in life.

I was trapped in a dark place, scared with nothing to eat; barely breathing. I missed the man I could no longer remember but knew existed long ago, outside of my dreams. The promise of rescue keeps me from losing what’s left of my mind.

I loved him believing he loved me too but time had passed, my memories scattered, almost non-existent. I longed for a closeness, to be with him; then realized I don’t even know he is.

  CHAPTER 17

Today was the day that I was to meet the man I was to serve in all ways possible. I was told that my training was complete and that I was now ready to live my new life as the mistress to Prime Minister Kristof Constantine. I was to reside in his home located in Prague where I would have my own room and belongings, and was to be addressed as Alyssa of Constantine should anyone ask. I was overjoyed when I learned that Marisa of Constantine would be joining me. I remembered her voice from the cell next to mine when we first met. She was younger than me and very beautiful.

Once we got to Prague we were expected to go for a spa day, where we would be waxed, and our hair cut and colored. It had been a long time since we’d been out in public so Kristof had arranged for a guardian to accompany us to our appointment. He was a good, kind man, unlike some of the others we’d seen the girls leave with. Marisa wasn’t particularly fond of him
but I knew that she would grow to love him in time.

It was said that he favored me most. I had endured far less than what the others had gone through. The screams of the night still haunt me while I sleep. I waited each night for the men to come in my cell but they never did. My training had been that of mental endurance while the others were forced to experience pain. I honestly don’t know which was worse. There were nights where I wished the men would come in my cell just so I could have human contact. Instead, I was forced to sit alone with no recollection of who I was or why I was there. Maybe if I had felt some sort of physical pain, I could have remembered.

We had all had our spirits broken. We were given new names, new appearances and were expected to behave according to how our master’s wanted us to. Since I had been deemed a favorite, my expectation was to join Kristof in the bedroom whenever he demanded it. Whereas, Marisa would be made to serve the guests or anywhere else he saw necessary.

  ***

Marisa and I were escorted into a small salon just off a busy street. There were only a few other ladies in there getting their hair done. I was taken to the back where a tall, beautiful blonde greeted me. She was quite graceful and I was thankful since she was the one that was waxing me. I was then escorted to another stylist that washed and cut my hair into a sleek bob. She explained in a deep Russian accent that she had been instructed by Kristof himself, to color my hair black. I didn’t object since I had learned early on that whatever he wanted, he got. Looking in the mirror I could see why she had chosen the cut she had for me. I was rail thin and it showed in my face. Kristof wanted his girls to look healthy, especially the ones that he liked to take to bed, and my new hairstyle accomplished that look.

When we arrived back at the house Kristof was waiting. He had a visitor that he wanted to us to meet and we were to be on our best behavior and to do whatever the man instructed us to do. Marisa and I entered the room and took a seat just as we had been trained to do. We were not worthy of sitting with such powerful men while they discussed business. There was something about the older man that sat across from Kristof that seemed familiar. I continued to hold my head down while looking up through my lashes. I knew the man, I was sure of it, I just couldn’t place it. Perhaps I knew him in a past life I thought.

As the man began to speak I was positive I knew him. He spoke with an American accent which led me to believe he knew exactly who I was. The longer he sat in the office the more he glanced at me and Marisa as if he knew us too and was afraid we would recognize him. The mystery man stood and Kristof instructed Marisa to go with him. She didn’t argue but I could tell that she was nervous and wanted to say something. We all knew better than to argue with Kristof but we also knew that he would protect us at any cost. Whoever the man was, he wouldn’t make it out alive if he did anything to hurt her.

“Alyssa,” Kristof purred in his thick accent. “Go to your room and rest, you will join me in my bed tonight.”

“Yes master,” I replied. “What time shall I join you?” I asked.

“Do not worry about it, I will send a servant for you when I am ready.”

“As you wish,” I said as I exited the room.

I walked past Marisa’s door and overheard her talking to the man.

“She may not remember who the fuck you are but I do,” she said. “I remember everything about my life and all the things you took away from me. I knew it was you all along.”

“You will watch how you talk to me bitch,” he said. “You should be grateful that you’re not six feet under like I wanted you. All you three had to do was stop snooping around, but you just couldn’t leave it alone and now here you are,” he sneered.

“If you’re here, I’m sure the others aren’t far behind. I know that when Dylan Prescott finds out that you kidnapped his wife and sold her to the Russian’s he’s going to slit your throat.”

“That little prick doesn’t know shit about me. He still thinks her father is behind all of this. It’s actually quite funny watching him mope around, lost without her.”

“You under estimate him governor, he will kill you and when he does, I hope I’m still alive to watch him to do it.”

“I am a guest in this house, you will watch how you talk to me Marisa or should I say Amber?”

“And you should remember that Kristof does not tolerate assholes treating his women like shit. If I were to start screaming, he would have his men up so here quick and you’d be a dead man walking.”

“Ah yes,” he laughed. “The infamous Kristof, the one that everyone fears and thinks is such a gentleman,” he said. “Just wait until tonight when your little friend Brooke, is strung up from the ceiling being whipped and you hear her cries. Then will you think he’s such a great protector of women Amber?”

“Not everyone is a sick mother fucker like you governor.”

I heard someone coming up the stairs and quickly scattered to my room pretending to be asleep. So I knew this man and so did Marisa (Amber). How could she remember her real name and I couldn’t remember mine? Maybe the man that visits me in my dreams is real. The man mentioned someone named Brooke. Could that be me? Am I married to that Dylan they were referring to? Why can’t I just remember?

Loud noises came from across the hall but I didn’t dare get up to see what was happening. Instead, I waited in my room trying to make sense of the conversation I’d overheard between Marisa and the governor.

  ***

I was summoned into Kristof’s office early the next morning. He gestured for me to have a seat across from him while we talked.

“I must apologize for not sending for you last night,” he said in his thick Russian accent.

“It is not any of my concern, sir,” I replied.

“Oh, but it is my sweet Alyssa.”

  “I don’t understand sir.”

“There was a problem between the gentleman and Marisa last evening, you see?”

“I’m sorry sir, I was resting. I don’t recall hearing anything that would indicate otherwise,” I said playing with my hands.

“I wasn’t indicating that you did, I was just merely making a statement. Both have been dealt with and will not be returning. I will need you to take Marisa’s place as a servant for me.”

“Sir, it would be my honor to do as you wish. May I ask a question?”

  “You may,” he nodded.

“Will I still be able to remain in my current room? I rather fancy the view sir.”

“You have been obedient and kind, and have done everything that’s been asked of you, so yes, you may remain in your current room.”

“Sir, I am unsure of the duties that Marisa was expected to uphold in your palace. Can you please explain them to me?”

“Yes Alyssa. You will be expected to serve our guests and you will not make eye contact with them unless you are given permission by me or by them. You will not argue with a guest in my home. If there is a problem, you will either come to me personally or alert one of my guards and we will take it from there. You are expected to pleasure the men who come through here via oral sex. There will be no sexual penetration of any sorts as I have others that are used for that purpose and you have not been properly trained to meet those needs. Do you have any further questions?”

  “No sir,” I replied.

“Good. Now run along to your room and get some rest, our guest will be arriving soon and he doesn’t like to be kept waiting.”

  “Very well sir.”

“Just one more thing Alyssa, tonight you will serve our guest naked so he can see your true beauty,” he said leaning back in his chair taking another drag off of his cigar.

  “Sir,” I nodded.

I walked slowly up the stairs until I reached the top and entered my room once more. I was curious as to what had happened to Marisa but I could only assume that she had either been returned to her cell or murdered. Judging by Kristof’s reaction, I assumed that both Marisa and the governor were dead. If my memory were ever to r
eturn I would have to keep it secret or risk being killed.

I was just about asleep when I heard the voices of two men outside my door. I recognized one of the voices to be Kristof, the other I didn’t know.

“I don’t care who she is, see to it that we don’t have another issue like the last one. I don’t care what you have to do to her, make sure it gets done. She’s very obedient which makes me uneasy. She’s either playing us or we were successful at erasing any memories that she had in her previous life. I haven’t decided what I believe yet. Give her the serum so she won’t remember anything and after he’s done with her, then throw her back down in her cell so she can finish her training.”

“Sir?” the man questioned. “Our orders were for this one to be denied any social interaction, not punished like the others.”

“Do you question me Alexi?” Kristof asked in his thick accent.

“No sir, I’m just following orders sent down from the Grand Master. She’s worth a lot of money to him. We are to take care of her until he comes here to complete the transaction.”

“Very well, see to it that she’s well cared for; once the money’s exchanged, kill her.”

The door swung open, I felt a sharp prick and everything around me went black. It was the last time I would recall ever having a life before I became Alyssa. That is who I was now and I lived to serve my master’s guests.

  CHAPTER 18

  Dear Brooke,

You have now been missing for six months and I have searched for you everywhere. The day you disappeared I thought you had left me because I wouldn’t leave the “fixing” business; I see now that you were right. I have put you in danger when my whole intention was to keep you safe. I have remained at the castle in hopes that you will come home to me soon and since this was the last place I saw you, I remained here. I won’t leave until you come back to me. I have lost so much but losing you has been the hardest. Every morning I wake with tears in my eyes when I realize you’re not next to me. The nightmares have also returned; but I can deal with those. What I can’t deal with, is the nightmare that I live each day without you. I promise I will find whoever has taken you and they will pay with their life. When it comes to you Brooke, there is nothing that will ever keep me away.
