I was communicating with people by blinking my eyes to indicate yes or no. Later I progressed to a letter chart. I couldn’t eat, and had to survive on nourishment through a tube peg.
That was all before a few phenomenal people offered their help. Mithu and Tran, my physical and occupational therapist, worked relentlessly to improve my condition. And also Faustin and Chelsea who worked just as hard to make me improve.
As a result, I am now talking (not as good as before, but talking), and using a walker to get around (not far, but after four months in the hospital I couldn’t even use the wheelchair), and most importantly, typing. The typing is slow, but it’s improving.
I, of course, have my magnificent wife to thank also, but fortunately I get to tell her that all the time. For Tran and Mithu (and the people who assisted her, Faustin and Chelsea) I give my eternal gratitude.
For my wife, Mikki, I give my eternal love.
