A year later

“Dinner,” Laurie Ann called through the open kitchen window.

Content, Wyatt wiped the dirt from his hands and stood to go inside. His garden was so full of produce they couldn’t give it away fast enough. Gabby and Pumpkin trotted up the back steps to their new home with him.

He snugged his hands around his wife’s thickening waist. “Feels good, doesn’t it?”

She handed him a sandwich plate. “What does?”

“Our life. Our home.” He caressed her womb. “Our son.”

“It feels right,” she agreed. “I was waiting for you, but I didn’t even know it.”

  “I’m glad you waited.”

She smiled at him, the world in her eyes. “Me, too.”
