  I smiled back and lowered the handbrake, driving out of the Quinn’s farm and onto the road. In the distance, the sun was high and bright, casting a vanilla light over the horizon. I put my foot down and got the van up to sixty, opening up the engine, speeding down the open road.

  I’d been travelling for years but for the first time, I was really going somewhere.
