“Do you think I don’t now, think again? Look at her ring finger. See something you recognize?” Sin tauntingly asked.
I raised my left finger to inspect the ring Sin gave me; it was now indeed embedded in my skin. How come I never felt its weighty pressure before? I heard Jane and Demeter howled their protest. Jane quickly ran to me, tried to snatch my arm from Sin’s grasp, hands claw like ready to seize the offending jewelry off of my finger.
At my surprised yelp, Sin flicked his hand and Jane flew through the air as if pushed by an invisible hand.
I turned my distressed gaze to Sin. He was just standing there, nonchalant. As if without a care in the world, as if he did not just do the unthinkable.
“See what he can do, Girl. You should have run, run as fast as your legs can work. If he can do that to one of your friends, then he can do that to you too.” Warned Demeter.
“Stop putting foolish ideas into her head, woman!” Sin’s cool must have vanished the second she spoke. My heart kept beating fast and I feel like I’m in the twilight zone. “I’m the furthest person to harm her; I am the one who will do anything in his power just to not let her get hurt, she’s the safest with me. Not like you who only want to use her as pawn just to get back at us for your daughter’s defection. Get over it already! It was eons ago, she willingly chose us not you.”
At Sin’s impassioned speech the woman got more and more agitated, pacing to and fro. She also held the dagger that I left at the table.
“Eons Sin? How old are you?” I asked, at this the woman perked up anticipating his answer. Sin’s jaw clenched, I may have agitated him with that question.
“Regard his answer carefully girl, the demon always deceives.”
“Everything I’ve told her was the truth so far, just with a little twist.” Sin faced me, “I have been created a long time ago, we measure our age not by years, but with each milestone in our lives, we stop aging when it is at the level of age our mates find us most desirable.”
“See how his devil’s lips lie! He’s over two thousand years old and you young girl was created to be his mate.” At my shocked gasp I saw Jane got up from her stupor, slowly angling her elbows for leverage.
“You are really starting to piss me off Demeter. Kat chose to be with me, I asked her first before she got through the threshold if she goes inside of her own free will, she gave her affirmation. Now leave us be so I can claim my bride!”
I felt the ground shake at Sin’s shout; cackles can be heard uttered by Demeter interspersing with “I did it!” repeated a couple of times while she hopped and danced around us.
Hairline cracks spread throughout the room with Sin as the focal point.
The ground we were in became unsteady as our combined weight made it wobble.
Sin looked at me worriedly, trying to communicate something I never understood.
Then I felt the ground no more.
Chapter 27 SIN
I heard her insensible guffaws. Nothing has come good my way whenever I hear that. It was like that time when she caught me and trapped me into that blasted statue. My only relief was that I haven’t seen her bring anything that she can trap me in, only Kat’s thick in the head friend. If Kat was given the dagger and is forced by Demeter to kill Jane, then I would be right back in my prison. But I know Kat wouldn’t do it, she’s too softhearted, too innocent and too good.
I only worry about Kat; Demeter knows she is my only weakness. If something terrible happens to her or if she dies, she knows with certainty that I will also die with her.
Feeling the ground shake, I suddenly had a realization that what she had been doing earlier was a distraction. Acting all crazy, spitting mad lamentations and trapping us in this position was just her throwing dust in our eyes.
The thing that nobody knows about Demeter is when my grandmother cursed her she also imparted some of her powers to her mother by blood association hence making Demeter the first immortal witch to walk on this earth.
And she demonstrates her powers when she made this path directly to my home. Tartarus.
I looked at Kat anxiously. She cannot come with me yet. She’ll die down there.
Not yet. Not until she tasted the fruit.
I felt the ground heave.
And we fell.
Chapter 28 Jane
No! no! I have to save Kat!
“What did you do!?” confronting the crazy old lady. “I thought we were gonna save her!” as I edge closer to the four feet wide chasm that swallowed my friend. She stopped her mad cackling to look at me and started to explain her actions.
“Oh, we were dear. There are only two ways to save her as I told you. One is for the wisher, that’s you, to sacrifice yourself- her stabbing you with the statues’ knife thus trapping him again. But I thought this way is much better, this way will positively end the demon. He will be gone. Dead.” She allowed a little crazy snicker just breathing in her recent win against NKisi. “By killing his mate I render the demon vulnerable, defeated, crushed. He won’t be able to do anymore harm.”
“You liar! You said we’d save her! I was willing to die for her. But you planned for her to be a pawn in your war against the demons instead. You used us! And me the ever gullible stupid girl fell for it! Well, enough is enough. I won’t be anyone’s doormat anymore!” I shouted as I pushed her towards the hole.
She wobbled, hands flailing to gain purchase, her face shows her surprise at my spontaneous action. Her feet started to slip; concrete slabs gave a resounding crunch as it tumbled through the unfathomable depth.
As Demeter started to fall, hands came up from the right side bearing claw like talons and heaved someone with a grunt, someone with long black wavy hair and slight figure. God, was I relieved when I saw Kat being hauled by the demon and my, what a demon he was.
The demon shed his human like features, although he was still the boy I saw him earlier his features became sharper, more brutal. His jaws was a little squarer, his eyes burned red like the fire awaiting at the bottom of this pit, shiny white teeth became more prominent as it contrasted with his skin that exhibited a bluish tint. His built was bigger than before, muscles more prominent as it bares the exertion of holding my friend up never letting her go unless she plummets to her death below.
“Please help me.” was his guttural cry. “Help me and I’ll give you back your soul.” His impassioned plea was not needed as I have made up my mind to save Kat.
“You needn’t have bargained you know; you could have seen that I would have done this without you dangling my soul in front of me.” I said as I scrambled to help an unconscious Kat, whom I saw had a frightening gash on her forehead and bruises everywhere resulting from her fall.
“Be that as it may, I want to, I know this will make Kat happy. If she’s happy then I am also.” His voice changed too. It became raspier, more scratchy.
The thanks that was on the tip of my tongue was barely uttered when the arms that I secured Kat with was quickly and soundlessly torn.
Demeter almost succeeded in attempting to drag down Kat with her, at my shouted protest Sin acted and freed Kat from her grasps.
I understood then why he was willing do anything for her, even acts that are abhorrent and intolerable, because he’s in love with her.
His eyes pleaded as he grabbed hold of Demeter. I nodded concomitantly understanding what he planned on doing. “Tell her I’ll come back. Tell her … that I … love her, she’s everything to me.” he said lastly as he was struggling to contain an enraged Demeter who almost escaped Sin’s clutches and scrambled to safety.
As he saw that I safely held Kat, Sin let go of his final hold on the ledge and embrace the fires below.

"I hate you! I hate you! Why did you come back? Couldn't you stay from where the hell you belong." I gnashed sobbing.
"Kat, I need you. I cannot let you go. I've seen what it does to my Father; living without your mate is unbearable. You have to understand." he supplicated, as if it would pacify me, his expression earnestly seeking my acceptance. He came nearer, clutching my arm in a vice like grip. I tried to shake his hold on me to no avail.
"Let go of me. Can't you see Sin, everything you gave me was grief, everything you touched dies. My parents, Joan, my friendship with Veronica. It was all because of you that I had to take pills just to have a nightmare less sleep, just to function from day to day and not wallow in misery that she brought her parent's murderer into their lives. It's because of you I'm all alone!"
"I was not the one who killed your parents!" Sin shouted, his frustration showing as he tried to make me understand. "You were so convinced that I was the devil, well then look no further in Veronica's direction, ask her what she did to your car that night you found it in your lawn. And remember this Kat; humans were given free will by the Creator. Your mother and father chose to ride that car that night, one word, hell one look from you and I would have rescued them. But powerful though you think I am, I could not be with you and save them all at once. I also had to choose that night Kat, save you or save them, and I never regretted my choice."
I shook my head, I couldn't accept the fact that there was a chance that my parent's could have lived if Sin wasn't so selfish of his love, he ran his hand down to my thigh as if our time apart powered his craving more, I felt him hook my leg around his waist and gripped me roughly. I gasped and glared up at him with tears in my eyes.
"You bastard! You disgusting bastard," I hissed. Tears slipped down my face. My lips parted in a gasp as his hold hurt.
"Bastard am I? You should be careful of what you said Kat or I might do what you expect me to." With that Sin kissed me hard; ravishing my plump red lips with his own. Unforgiving. Merciless. Ruthless.
