“CLOSE IT NOW!” Sarah screamed. The teenager shut it tightly with her weight leaning against the wooden door. Her body started to shake from the thought of the monsters breaking out of the other classrooms.
Sarah carefully walked further into the hallway to find a fire extinguisher in it’s case on the wall. She had to first dodge one of the Revival’s attacks before using her elbow to break through the hard glass that kept the large red cylinder inside. The woman gripped it tightly in her hands after pulling it out of the case. Its body twitched and stopped in the middle of the hallway before running to her. Sarah couldn’t help but let out a scream like a fierce warrior when the thing got close enough for her to use the extinguisher. The woman used all of her strength to bash the heavy object against its head. The blow caused the creature to tumble onto the floor in a weakened state. She quickly ran over to its side to give it a relentless beat down against the floor. The heavy object was released from her hands when she noticed the head was completely turned into skull fragments and crushed brain pudding.
“Try getting up from that!” she said to the creature. She ran back to the classroom door to tap on it a few times when it wouldn‘t open.
“Hey it’s me! I killed the Revival thingy! It‘s safe to open up now,” Sarah said. She slowly opened the door to hold in a horrified scream. Sarah couldn’t help but fall over at the sight she witnessed right in front of her. The beasts somehow made it through the window and were devouring the students near the windows. Daniel was torn in half with Max’s body missing from the floor.
“NO!” she finally let out. All of the reanimated corpses had stood up at once when they noticed her. Sarah had tried to close the door but it just wouldn’t budge.
Sammie came running out from behind the door while looking as pale as those monsters. The officer quickly grabbed the doorknob again to slam the door shut. She could hear low painful moans coming from behind the wooden door in front of her. Sarah hopped back a bit when they started to bang against it with great force.
“Sammie?” Sarah said quietly. The woman turned around to see the girl crying in the middle of the hallway. She was laying flat against the cold surface while holding her text books tightly against her chest. Sarah made her way over to the traumatized teen to hold her close in her arms. The doors within the hallway continued to shake violently as the constant cries echoed throughout the place.
Crystal crossed her legs while sitting on a large wooden crate. Valerie was helping Rebecca break open different boxes that had some supplies within them.
“OOH! What does this thingy do?!” Valerie said from curiosity. Rebecca quickly snatched a very expensive item from her hands.
“Don’t play with that!” Rebecca said before she opened the item to reveal a small test tube inside. “This has a very powerful poison that could eat your skin away from the slightest touch. I was able to salvage it when leaving my former job. The fools thought one of the scientists just misplaced it,” she said. The crazy girl yanked it out of Rebecca’s hands to hold it close.
“Hey I found it first! I want to keep it!” Valerie said like a five year old. Rebecca shook her head as she continued to dig through the large box.
“Just be careful with it. It might just save your life,” said Rebecca. Valerie placed the little tube of poison in her pocket while smiling. Crystal finally hopped off the box that she was sitting on. She crossed her arms in front of her chest while looking around the abandoned building.
“Ms Lee, where exactly are we?” Crystal asked. The woman smiled as her fingers brushed some of her hair from her sight.
“We are at one of my companion’s hideouts. His name is Luke. Apparently he’s damn good at what he does,” Rebecca said with a little smile forming. Crystal walked past the two while brushing her fingers against her own stomach.
“Luke? What exactly does this man do?” Crystal asked. Intrigued in her story, she had stood beside Rebecca with open ears.
“Luke was an interesting individual when I first met him a few years ago. Very strong, handsome…but was always thinking of a girl he knew from his previous civilian life. Pissed me off in a way. I believe her name was Parson, Sarah Parson,” Rebecca said.
The tall woman couldn’t help but laugh for the moment before she spotted Valerie. She was halfway inside the box with her ass sticking out.
“So, you two split up or something?” Crystal asked. Rebecca pulled out a long box with a weak smile appearing on her face.
“We were separated a week ago by the Crimson Fall’s Police Department, and my former employees. I think he had some connections in that department that let him out early. I was stuck to rot in the jail cell they had though. My former employees made sure that I wasn’t going to get out of the police department until the extraction team was there to take me. I suppose I was lucky enough for that entire city to be wiped out by those monsters. Barely escaped last night before it was blown to smithereens,” Rebecca explained.
Valerie had finally fell into the box with her legs kicking around in the air. Crystal made her way over to her before grabbing the girl by the belt. She yanked the smaller woman out with ease as she was seen holding onto a machine gun.
“Look what I found at the bottom! Can I play with this?!” Valerie said in excitement. Rebecca turned over to see the weapon in her hand. She reached into the box that she was next too before pulling out a long gun clip.
“Here! Go nuts,” she said. Valerie had caught it with one hand while holding the gun in the other. She quickly slid it up inside the empty slot to hear that reassuring click sound. The woman was overly excited to use the beautiful weapon on something now. She just couldn’t hold in her sheer happiness.
“Calm yourself Valerie! We wouldn’t want you to do something stupid and blow your own head off now would we?” Crystal said with a sly look in her eyes. The girl glared at the woman when the image of Nicole falling to the floor replayed in her head.
“No, we wouldn’t Crystal,” Valerie said to herself.
Rebecca opened another large crate that she was standing next too. The sight of something inside made the woman smile.
“Luke was always fascinated with swords. I’m happy to see that he hid this one here. The name of the owner is still on the sheath. Freddy Nakamura? That name sounds somewhat familiar,” Rebecca said. The two women had walked over to see the long blade being released from it’s black sheath. It reflected the lights which blinded the two for a moment.
“Crystal, did you find anything you want to use for protection? I’m sure there is something in this room for you to use,” she said to her. Rebecca placed the sword back into the sheath while holding to her side. She pointed over to another large crate that hadn’t been touched. The tall woman walked over to it before lifting the top off easily. Her eyes sparkled at the sight of what was inside. She slowly reached down to pull out her new toy. Crystal’s sadistic grin appeared once again.
“I shall use this on those three twerps that got away from me,” said Crystal.
The women walked out of the abandoned building that was located a mile away from Little Bow. Rebecca pulled out a small device from her pocket while lifting the safety up with her thumb. Crystal and Valerie turned around in the rain as they held onto their new toys.
“Ka-boom!” Valerie said with a thumbs up! Rebecca Lee had firmly pressed the red button which suddenly caused the entire building to explode in flames. The rain continued to pour down on them as they entered the vehicle. Valerie sat in the backseat with her new machine gun resting on her lap. She was petting it as if it was a little dog. The but girl stopped for a moment to open up her little box of gum. She had placed two of them inside her mouth which brought a bright smile to her face. Crystal held the weapon in her hand tightly as she smiled at the driver.
“We must give our thanks to your friend Luke, if we ever run into him,” Crystal said to the driver.
Rebecca had slid the key into the ignition before twisting it to start up th
e engine.
“I’m sure that if he’s still alive he’ll probably come and try to kill me,” she said. Valerie sat up and scooted over to the girls with a confused look on her face.
“Why would he want to kill his friend? You two have a fight or something?” Valerie asked from the backseat. Rebecca gave out a weak smile before she turned to face the girl that was chewing the bubble gum.
“I’m pretty much the reason why the dead are eating people. If he figures that out, he‘ll surely come after me,” Rebecca said with another weak smile. Crystal and Valerie looked at each other in that moment before they stared at Rebecca. The woman in the passenger seat had smiled as her eyes widened for a brief moment.
“I believe it was fate for us to run into each other, Ms Lee. You have done such beautiful work here…” Crystal said while resting her hands in her own lap.
Valerie tapped Rebecca’s shoulder while showing off a large grin.
“Nicole would’ve loved you!” said Valerie. The woman pushed the gas pedal down to drive forward to Little Bow with her eyes slightly narrowing.
“I didn’t do this on purpose. It was an accident. Some idiot in a black vehicle wrecked into our truck during the transport. That was a long week ago. Thanks to them, the subject escaped and caused all of this to happen,” Rebecca explained. Valerie turned to look at Crystal for a moment before staring at the driver again.
“So, it was an accident that caused the destruction of thousands of lives all together?” Valerie asked her. A sweat drop slowly slid down the side of the drivers face as she nodded slowly.
“Yep, I fucked up. Funny thing is that I was transporting the ‘Package’ to the buyer. It was originally destined to be destroyed in another town. If Luke found out about the truth, he’d surely hunt me down and kill me,” Rebecca said nervously. The woman in the passenger seat silently slid her hand on Rebecca’s thigh like a snake.
“Don’t you worry sweetie. You’re one of us now,” Crystal said. Valerie cheered in the backseat as she laughed. But the constant laughter caused her gum to fall out of her mouth and land on the backseat.
“SHIT!” Valerie said in a loud outburst.
Chapter 5
Kim woke up from the sound of someone’s intense scream that came outside the house. The rain and thunder was canceling most of it out, but something out there was different from those flesh-eaters. She went up the stairs to knock on the bathroom door several times.
“Hey Susan, I think we may have a problem! Get dressed quickly and let’s sneak out the back!” Kim said in a hurry. The teen did what she was told. She hopped out of the shower and started to put on her clothes. The two girls made it out of the backdoor that was located in the kitchen. They could hear nothing but loud insane screaming throughout the entire neighborhood. It was completely different from what they’ve seen since yesterday when the nightmare started. Kim was holding Susan’s hand tightly as she lead her through the darkness in the backyard. Both of them threw their heavy backpacks over a tall fence before climbing over it to continue their escape.
“What is that? Is that people screaming?! Shouldn‘t we go and help them?” Susan said while looking around. She forced Kim to stop for a moment to catch their breath. Their clothes were soaking wet from the rain again which was already making Susan pretty upset.
“I just took a shower! Look at me! This is so unfair!” Susan said in defeat. Kim tried to hold in her laughter but that wasn’t going to happen. They smiled at each other before walking in the direction they were running to.
“So, what’s the plan then?” said Kim. The young teenager looked down at the muddy ground while thinking of what Tristan might’ve done in their shoes.
“We should go find a working vehicle and get the hell out of here!” Susan said while making a fist. Kim had turned her head to look at the girl before she nodding. This was their new plan of escaping Little Bow together.
“Alright! Sounds good to me! But, can you drive?” Kim asked. The teenager had stopped in her tracks again with a puzzled look on her face.
“No! I thought you could? You’re the older one aren’t you?!” Susan said in surprise. Kim laughed to herself while feeling a tad shy as her fingers fidgeted against her thighs when she looked back to the girl.
“I never bothered to learn. Everywhere I needed to go, I was able to reach by foot or bicycle.” Kim said.
The redhead had rubbed her face to hide her disappointment.
“We need someone that can drive then, or else we’ll most likely crash if we tried it ourselves. But I think we can do it on our own. Only thing that‘s going to make it difficult, is if we can‘t turn the car on in time when those things surround us. We‘d be sitting ducks!” Susan said. Kim brought her hand to the girl’s lips to shut her up for a moment.
“Do you hear that?” she said. Susan looked around as she listened to the raindrops that poured all around them. Both of them had jumped back when one of the fiends came through the fence. It’s eyes were blood red with it’s body moving around randomly in the rain. Susan and Kim instantly released their handguns from their pockets and aimed up high to its head. The creature finally noticed the two before it released a horrible scream. The girls began to pull the triggers to release the constant bullets that pierced through the new type of danger in the head. It had stumbled forth the broken fence before trying to bring itself to stand back up again. Kim had walked up to it with her gun being lowered to her side. She brought her leg back as much as she could until it was forced to the monster’s face.
To her surprise, the entire head came flying off rather easily. The head started to bounce around the grass until it finally came to a complete stop. The body collapsed in the muddy grass with the black blood oozing out of it’s open neck.
“I didn’t know you were that strong Kim! Why haven‘t you been kicking their ass this entire time?” Susan said cheerfully. The woman briefly smiled to the girl but she had this awkward feeling that someone or something else was still watching them. Kim didn’t want to risk staying there for too long. The woman quickly grabbed Susan’s hand as they started to run through the darkness once more. In the distance the girls had noticed a mob of red eye monsters following after them from the broken fence they were just at. The redhead had gripped Kim‘s hand tightly as she heard only one thing Kim had to say in that sudden moment.
“JUST RUN!” Kim yelled.
The girls had ran past a gas station with the creatures still following after them.
“WE’VE BEEN RUNNING FOR SO LONG! WHEN WILL THEY GIVE UP?!” Susan said as she tried to catch her breath. They couldn’t really stop to catch a break. All of the red eyed freaks were just a few feet away from the girls due to their strange high endurance. Their rotting hands reached out to grab the girls but they could never get close enough to actually do it. Kim placed a new clip into her pistol that she had in her back pocket.
She aimed back to shoot a few of them in the head which really didn‘t do as much damage as she hoped. She still couldn’t understand why these things wouldn’t just die like the others. They would just flinch and shrug it off like the bullets were nothing to them.
“Susan! We may have to split up if this continues!” Kim said to her. The teenager held in her tears while holding the gun in her hand tightly.
“I don’t want too! We can make it if we stick together!” Susan pleaded. The woman patted the girl’s back before giving her a warm gentle smile.
“Just run…okay? I‘ll distract them long enough for you to find a place to hide,” said Kim. She turned once more to pull the trigger at the mob. The last of the bullets went into the closest one behind them.
They were locked onto Kim as she instantly turned away from Susan’s path. The teenager ran over to a large tree to climb it quickly. Her slender hands grabbed onto the branches to lift herself up quiet easily. However Kim had found herself being chased by a few dozen of the infected now. She was able to make it to the town square where a lot of the tal
lest buildings resided. Without really thinking it through, she ran into one of the dark alleyways to find a dead end. Kim had a few seconds to figure out an escape route before they would catch up to her. But It was too late, she could see them running in her direction with their blood red eyes full of hunger.
“No! Not like this! I will not be your next meal!” Kim said as she looked along the brick wall to find a metal ladder attached to it. She was able to see it this time because of a sudden flash of lightning that lit up the area.
She quickly jumped onto a large trashcan to grab the metal bars before pulling herself up. She felt one of them grab her pants with it‘s cold dead hands. Her grip was getting loose because of it‘s strong hold on her. The fact that the ladder was covered with rain didn‘t help her situation one bit. Her eyes suddenly opened up when she felt her pants being pulled down past her ankles. The woman’s face was red lit from embarrassment from what she could see down below. Now angered for more reasons than one, she ended up kicking the thing’s hand away the best she could without loosing her grip on the ladder. The monster finally released itself from her pants and fell into the mob that was around the large trashcan. Using what little strength she had left in her arms, she was able to climb the metal ladder to the top of the two story roof. Kim pulled her pants back up as soon as she landed on the wet surface of the roof. She glared back down to all of them that were smacking their arms against the wall near the trash bins.
“WHAT THE HELL?! BUNCH OF PERVERTED MONSTERS! SHOW SOME MANNERS!” Kim had shouted down to them.
Susan was alone once again while sitting on a large tree branch. The rain didn’t quite reach her due to all the leaves blocking the path.
“First Tristan…and now Kim. Why do I always end up alone?” she said to herself. The girl looked at her gun before staring down to the ground to see only two of the creatures that found where she was hiding. They were clawing at the base of the tree trying to get up to where she was, but the rain fall wasn’t on their side. They kept falling back into the mud each time they attempted to reach the girl. Their red eyes shined from the lightning that flashed throughout the darkened sky. Susan looked around to see nothing but branches and trees from her height. She felt helpless and stupid for climbing the tree in the first place. But it wasn‘t really her fault.
