“I’ve got security heading your way to bring you guys to me. I’m not too worried about him doing something here with all the security, but I don’t want to chance it.”

“I don’t see him anywhere up here, so maybe we can have the security walk my parents out first and then bring me back to you. I’m guessing I’m staying with you tonight, right?”

Sarah knew he’d prefer that even if there wasn’t the unease. She felt her phone vibrate in her hand, which usually didn’t happen when Reid was with her. Looking down at the notification, her face scrunched as she tried to read the text that was long enough that it cut off. Holding up a finger, she swiped to go to the message to read the full thing before she reacted.

It’s kind of cute when you look all scared, but don’t worry. I’m not here to start anything. I was just curious what Lynne thought of the new boyfriend. Happy to hear she knows where you belong. I’ll see you soon.

  “It’s from him, isn’t it?”

Reid waited until Sarah was finished before he asked. She would’ve turned the phone around to show him, but the readability of the small text through the glass was questionable.

“I’ll let you read it later. He claims he’s not here to start anything.”

Sarah didn’t know whether she believed that. It was clear to her that if he knew her mom was meeting Reid, he was still following her around at least some of the time. It was either that or Aaron had started stalking her mom, which was even more terrifying to think about.

“I guess you’ve got your answer on where I’d like you to sleep tonight. Give me five minutes and I’ll be ready to walk out with you. Security is waiting up there to bring you to me, then we can walk your parents out together.”

Reid pointed behind her as he spoke, causing Sarah to follow her eyes to the man staring down at her from midway up the steps. She looked around the arena one more time. Few people were still hanging around and she couldn’t make out Aaron, but she had a feeling he was still there.

  Chapter Eighteen

“How many kids do you want?”

Reid felt a little odd asking the question first thing in the morning, but it had been on his mind. They’d essentially been moved back into Sarah’s for two weeks after the sort of non-encounter with Aaron. The first couple of nights, they’d spent at his and Nico’s, but privacy was an issue, so they moved to the only place they could get some privacy without going shopping for a new place. The new place was bound to happen sooner rather than later, even with the few pieces of added furniture they’d gotten for the living room.

The whole Aaron situation was just weird. The dude popped up, promising to make another appearance, and never did. Of course, with it taking him a month to show up at the game, it could be a full year before he made some kind of move. Without any direct threats, Reid’s lawyer said there wasn’t much to be done as far as getting the cops involved, so they were just waiting around for something to happen.

Since nothing was, Reid wasn’t sure what moves to make as far as future planning. Asking about kids was his first attempt to start opening up the whole future discussion. They hadn’t said they loved each other, which about two months in probably wasn’t a bad thing, but Reid was pretty sure he knew where they both were on the matter. He knew he was head over heels for the naked woman in his arms.

“Three,” Sarah said after thinking about it for a few seconds. “Since I’m an only child, I want my kids to have someone they can rely on, or fight with if your stories are any indication, and I think two is kind of cliché. So three.”

“Really, only three?” Reid said with a laugh.

He was the second born of five, so he was used to a big family. It was good to hear that the stories he’d shared of his daily wrestling matches with his brothers and general orneriness hadn’t killed her desire to have kids.

“Well, I figure I need to verify I can handle one to begin with, so the number is a little fluid. The first step is finding someone who wants to have kids with me that isn’t completely crazy.”

“Great, now you’re throwing me in the same boat as your stalker. What did I do to deserve that?”

Sarah hummed and lifted her head up from where it had been comfortably resting on his chest. There was an instant chill even with the air temperature around them at a cozy level.

“I’ve been sitting here stroking you awake for the last fifteen minutes and all you want to talk about is a potential number of future kids. I’d classify that as crazy.”

Her hand stopped the motions she mentioned and Reid groaned when she squeezed him tightly at the base of his penis. It’d taken all he had to concentrate on a conversation instead of instantly jumping into a nice game of morning sex. Sarah’s small pout and sad eyes made it even harder not to roll her over and push right into her.

“I was letting you decide when the time was right. It’s pretty clear that I’m ready and able. How about you?”

Sarah growled softly and threw her leg over his waist so she could climb on top of him. Before he had a chance to grab a condom from the table next to the bed, she lowered herself on his shaft and pushed her pelvis forward to grind into him.

Damn, was about the only thought he could muster. He’d thought about rolling over and pushing into her, but the thought had included him putting a condom on. They’d had a lot of sex, enough that he hoped any past experiences were nothing more than very distant memories, but they’d always used a rubber.

Reid used his hands on Sarah’s hips to pull her up and then push her back down to feel her insides rub against him without a barrier. He had every intention of telling her they needed to discuss the lack of protection, but she was quick to fight off his hands directing the situation and start bouncing up and down on him, moaning almost animalistic as she threw her head back.

If she had the motions all down and didn’t care about the condom, he wasn’t going to interrupt. They’d both been to the doctor since they’d first gotten together and Aaron hadn’t left her any presents, so buck naked was good by Reid. She was on the pill and the small chance of them having a kid clearly didn’t scare him if he’d started their morning off asking how many she wanted to have.

He focused his hands on her breasts, squeezing them and then leaning his head up so he could suck her nipples into his mouth, one at a time and for an equal time to make sure they didn’t get jealous. He swore she tasted like cherries for some reason. Every time he licked any part of her all he could think about was the cherry on top of a sundae. Eventually, he had dreams of turning her into a sundae, but they’d been too caught up in how good they fit together to expand their fun.

With all her warm up stroking him, Reid was primed to shoot with very little friction, but he fought off the need to fill her with the semen already leaking inside of her. Just the thought of him entering her in that way caused a short jet to escape. Groaning, he bit harder than he meant to on the nipple in his mouth.

“You know you want to cum, so do it,” Sarah said after a quick gasp from the pain. “I’m right there with you. Let go.”

The force of them separating and coming back together took on a new level as Sarah tried to squeeze the life out of him with muscles he’d only ever felt while she was in mid orgasm. Since she seemed to be able to speak coherently, he knew she couldn’t be to that point.

The pressure wasn’t something he could fight off indefinitely, so he slammed her hips down on him and let loose of her breast so he could lock his lips on hers. With his eyes open, he could see the haziness of bliss taking over her eyes and he imagined the same could be seen in his. He was as deep as he could get inside of her and when the first real ejaculation happened, he tried to drive himself even further. The sensations overall with and without the condom were close to the same, but that part about knowing that pieces of him where climbing inside of her made the connection feel deeper and seemed to make it last longer.

The urge to spit more out didn’t stop for a solid five minutes and the w
hole time Sarah’s vagina worked hard to pull more from him. It was all hers for the taking, so he sat back and enjoyed the ride as much as he could. When he could catch his breath for a second, he let his torso fall back down to the bed, taking Sarah with him as their tongues continued to curl around each other.

Reid ran his right hand through her hair and held her head for a second as he pulsed inside her again. It felt like every one of his nerve endings were on fire. Placing a few more rough kisses on her lips, Reid took a deep breath and relaxed his head on the pillow underneath him, staring into wide open green eyes looking back at him.

“You know I love you, right?”

It wasn’t necessarily the romantic sharing of the heart he would’ve liked to give Sarah, but he felt like he said it to her without the words all the time. Her subtle nod of her head and sweet smile let him know that he wasn’t imagining that.

“Just like you know that I love you. You wouldn’t be inside of me right now without protection if we didn’t feel that way. I know the tests all say we’re good and I’m on the pill, but it’s effectiveness has never been tested.”

“Really?” Reid tilted his head just a little to the left and lowered his chin to look at her skeptically. “I remember a little birdie telling me that in her confusion over instantly feeling a connection with me and being thrust into the situation with Aaron wanting to get back together that there was at least one other time when protection wasn’t the most important thing on your mind.”

Sarah rolled her eyes and smacked Reid playfully on the chest. Reid faked being hurt and grabbed her hand to hold over the spot. He was sure there wouldn’t be a hand print, but he liked making Sarah think her love taps actually did something.

“I thought we agreed that we wouldn’t talk about Aaron during sex, especially while we’re still connected. Plus, I’ve determined his sperm would’ve been inferior to the birth control anyway. Yours on the other hand, you never know. I definitely don’t recommend waking up and asking me about babies if you don’t want to try to make one, because I may just take your handy box of condoms and lose them somewhere.”

Reid laughed and pulled Sarah up a little to see how sensitive things were. The instant shudder snaking up his body told him they were best just hanging out for a little while. Matters weren’t helped by the fact that his pelvis instantly pushed him back inside the half of inch that had escaped.

“You know how crazy people would say we are to even be talking about that? Especially since my first reaction is to ask you why you’re even still taking birth control. We should just get married and start a family.”

Sarah’s post-coital bliss ebbed away from her face quickly at the suggestion. She didn’t rush off him, just stared down at him blankly as her mind seemed to be processing the suggestion. Reid had a habit of not thinking before he said something. The suggestion wasn’t one he was going to backpedal from, no matter how crazy it was.

“Are you talking a long engagement?”

Sarah’s right eye squinted a little and she bit her bottom lip as she still seemed to be going over the idea. Reid had only started to soften inside of her and the notion that she’d be ready to move their life forward immediately negated that softening.

“Depending on playoffs, there’s likely five more months of hockey left before I’d be free for a honeymoon. Do you consider that a long engagement?”

He hadn’t sat down and thought things out, but a summer wedding between seasons would probably work out best for his schedule. Sarah had some book tours planned that they’d talked about going on together around that time, so it’d be nice to extend one of them to a little longer vacation.

“In two months you’ve honestly decided that I was someone you want to spend the rest of your life with? I know my answer to that question, but I want to hear yours.”

“Based on the fact that you aren’t running for the hills, I’m sure it’s going to be the same. I’m the one who started talking about babies and our future and asked why in the world we haven’t made it official that we’re getting married. I think that answers the question, but if you need something more, I knew from the first day we met that we’d eventually get married.”

Sarah scowled at him a little because he’d already told her the story, and it wasn’t him who was convinced that first day. He smiled and leaned up to kiss her lips quickly.

“Okay, fine, Nico basically told me the first day we met we were going to get married. I don’t know if he has some matchmaker blood running through his veins or what, but it didn’t take me long to decide I agreed with him. I love you, even if I’m only saying it for the first time today, and I can’t think of anything I’d rather do than spend the rest of my life with you by my side.”

Both of Sarah’s hands pressed against Reid’s chest as she pulled herself up and let him fall out of her. She didn’t get off him, just let what felt like a blast of arctic air hit his already sensitive dick. He bit his tongue to try not to grunt out his reaction to the change.

“Don’t get comfortable. I have a feeling you’re going right back in, but I wanted to hear the words again without you pulsing inside of me. I’m afraid it might be rattling our brains.”

There was no denying that possibility. The promise of warmth soon returning made the harsh cold a little easier to handle, but only slightly.

“No problem. Obviously, I wasn’t planning on proposing today. I haven’t gone out ring shopping yet, but I do have my championship ring from a couple years ago if you require a ring right this second.”

It was meant as a joke, even though he’d gladly run over to his apartment to get it if it’d make a difference. Sarah understood what he was getting at and laughed.

“Just so you know, you can expect the corniest of proposals once I get my shit together, but for now, would you do me the honor of agreeing to be my wife?”

“I’ll have to think about it,” she said as a devious smile took over her face.

Shifting up, she was somehow able to get him back inside of her in an effortless motion as she started rocking up and down him again. With the amount of sex they had each day, it was pretty clear they both needed to be admitted to some sex anonymous program or something. Reid had summed the first few frantic bouts as him not being used to how good it could feel, but since then, they were still having sex at least three or four times a day.

Reid had no problem with her claim of needing to think about getting married. It was the smile on her face that made him growl and roll them over so he could take control of the situation. Rather than continue her initial thrusting, he held himself above her as still as he could.

“Do you think I’ll wake up when we’re eighty with your hand wrapped around me stroking me?”

“If you haven’t traded me in for two women half my age by then, maybe.”

Sarah raised her head up so she could lick his chest and bite at his flesh. They were both biters and it was a miracle they weren’t walking around with dozens of bite marks on them.

“Really?” Reid asked as he pulled out and pushed back in slow enough that Sarah growled and ran her nails down, which Reid had expected. “I’m pretty sure I’m the one who needs to worry about you finding two guys to keep you busy.”

“I think you should worry more about getting me to agree to marry you than what life is going to be like for us in sixty years.”

That was probably true, but it was fun to try to distract Sarah. It seemed to be the only way to slow the eruption constantly building inside of them.

“Nico said it would happen, so do I really have to worry?”

Sarah’s eyes narrowed and one of the legs that had curled around him kicked him in the butt. He hadn’t told her the part about Nico claiming she’d make pretty babies. He figured that fun detail could wait until she was in labor.

“That’s it. No bringing up Nico during sex either. I thought we’d already established that, but clearly you need some reminding today.”

  Reid
pulled out and pushed in a little quicker to keep Sarah’s frustration level out of the red. She hated the game of trying to make things last longer.

“What about my parents? How big of a mood killer are they?”

The question wasn’t out of nowhere, but it wasn’t one Sarah looked to expect judging by the way her face scrunched up as she thought about it. Reid used the moment of thought to start a slow pace of thrusts. Everything was always so fast that even a temporary change of pace was a new adventure.

“You rarely ever bring something up for the heck of it. Does that mean your parents are coming for a visit?”

Sarah tried to increase the pace by pushing her legs hard into his back. She had muscles under her pale skin, but they weren’t enough to cause him to change his course of action if he didn’t want to.

“Not exactly. I usually go visit them during the break coming up next week, but I hadn’t made any specific plans because of everything going on here.”

Reid had played in an All-Star game, so he had the experience of the antics and limelight that went along with it, but he was perfectly fine sitting it out. Sarah on the other hand was pissed he didn’t get picked, which she made clear every time it was mentioned.

“I don’t mind spending more time with you, but those idiots deciding who’s the best in the league have to be blind. Seriously, they picked Pat over you. I know he’s been in the league longer and has a cult following, but you are ten times as skilled as he is. He’s only got what, three more goals than you?”

She wasn’t too upset about their goalie being picked, but another forward going while Reid wasn’t made her borderline homicidal. It was adorable, but totally unnecessary.

“Four after last night, but who’s counting. What about my parents? Are you up for paying them a visit?”
