“Why are you so thoughtful Sel Er?” asked the Death Herald who entered the laboratory. “I see you’ve become stronger.”
“I have access to the choice of class, but I don’t know how to do it,” I explained my thoughtfulness.
“Oh, well, finally!” Mohr was delighted. “It is done quite simply. There are two ways. The first is when you approach those who have a class and ask them to endow you with the capabilities of this class. Actually, this does not always work, because you may not be suitable for any requirements, or someone just doesn’t like you.
The second way is to get to your class. This path is very long, but it has its advantages. I walked along with it and learned the ability to operate the energy of Death, and then the spells. It took me a whole lot of time. It really is a lot. There are no more gravediggers of my generation left in the cave, and I lived even when there were a few Karkants here.”
“I do not have so much time. I must help our men, otherwise, the spikers will crush us. I think at least a drop of my strength will move the scales to our side a little.”
“Your aspirations are commendable, but you understand that even with the choice of a class, there will be no particular influence on your part in the course of the battle?”
“Yes, I understand it” I nodded.
“Then I’ll do it this way,” Mohr slapped his hands and an inscription appeared in front of me.
Chapter 64
The ways of development. The letter. The choice of class.
The Death Herald offers you to choose the class “Necromancer”!
Description: The magician who controls the energy of death and is able to turn the death of enemies into his own power, always instilled fear in the hearts of all the living beings. Raise the army of the dead, turn the enemies into the ashes, and even call upon Death itself. Necromancer can do a lot.
Confirm the choice of the class!
“Do not rush to choose a class,” said Mohr. “Talk to Derergon, Gard, Mulf, you can also try to talk to the rippers, it may be possible to take their class. After you learn all about these classes, think again and make the final choice.”
“Good,” I nodded, and was about to go to the leader of the mercenaries, but I remembered one thing. “By the way, Mohr, can you read this letter?”
“Let's see,” said the necromancer, taking a crumpled letter, which I found in the spatial pocket of Palg.
The Death Herald read the letter, frowned, and then gave it to me. A message appeared before my eyes.
A crumpled letter.
The description: You found this letter in the spatial pocket of the senior slave trader named Palg. Its content is revealed to you by a necromancer.
The content of the letter: “It is necessary to find more slaves. Customers rely on the fact that we deliver them slaves-wanderers, who cannot return to their world. Try to look for just this type, despite their level. You will receive a worthy reward for the information in addition to the basic payment. Don't forget about beetles. We meet as usual in the Merry Villain Tavern an hour before midnight. Signature Goroner.
The task obtained “The plans of the main slaver I”
The goal: Find out which beetles the senior slaver was talking about.
Additional goal: Find out any information about his plans, which you can find.
That’s interesting and I am not even offered a choice. It will be necessary to study this task in more detail, but after we deal with Narr Nutt.
“I don’t like what Goroner says,” Mohr tapped on the stone with his claws. “I will discuss this with Derergon, and you think carefully when you choose your future life.”
After thanking the Death Herald, I headed for Derergon, who was now in the cave that I already knew. I was very lucky since Gard and Mulf were there with the leader of the mercenaries.
“What brought you here Sel Er?” Derergon asked.
“I want to find out more about classes to choose my path,” I replied.
“Everybody went through it once,” the warrior grinned. “My teacher helped me once, so read the information carefully.”
Derergon offers you to choose the class “Warrior”!
The description: The one who can master the skills of the blade and is able to protect the loved ones. Only a warrior can become incredibly strong to crush all obstacles in his path. It is worth remembering that a warrior can master not only a sword but many other types of weapons, be it a club or an ax.
Confirm the choice of the class!
“Gard, give Sel Er the information about your class,” the mercenary leader asked the husky one.
“Now,” the bug approached me, and I saw a message again.
Garadan offers you to choose the class “Heavyweight”!
The description: Fate constantly sends its endless obstacles and not everyone can overcome them. However, the Heavyweight is the one who is able to withstand any blows of arrogant fate and to stand under the incredible pressure, as well as to withstand the attacks of all his enemies, even if they attack altogether.
Confirm the choice of the class!
“My class is unique,” said Mulf. “But I’ll try to do something, maybe it will work out.
Mulf offers you to choose the class “Killer”!
The description: In the darkness of a deep cave, in the shadow of stones or rock crevices. The killer must become invisible for his victims in order to deliver the only blow that will be fatal. However, it is worth remembering that this path is not easy.
Confirm the choice of the class!
“Wow! It worked,” the beetle was surprised. “Try to talk to the two-legged now, they are now all gathered around the dwarf, not far from the training ground.”
“Thank you,” I said, and went to the place.
It was very strange, but still, the classes of the two-legged became accessible to me. I learned about the bowman, the knight, and about the paladin and a few more. I also liked the “Magician” class, but there was still an interesting option.
“I have a unique class, and I don’t know all the information about it,” Alena sighed.
“Mulf was able to provide information about the adjacent class.”
“Hmm ... if you say so, then come on and I will try,” said the girl, and another message appeared in front of my eyes.
Alyona offers you to choose the class “Healer”!
The description: Many in the world are fighting each other and are seriously injured, which can lead to death. Only a healer can deal with them quickly enough and ward off death from all living things. Healers are the Lords of Life that direct its healing power for the benefit of sentient beings.
Confirm the choice of the class!
It made me wonder deeply because I had a healing gene that could help me along the way, but I didn’t want to stand aside during the battle. I prefer the battle on the front line with the use of weapons and energy.
The dwarf never remembered his class, so he could not offer anything, but he had already made a whole mountain of blades for mercenaries, and this time they turned out just the way the blacksmith intended them to be.
He was making a separate blade for Derergon dwarf cooked, and he also began to make the armors for the heavyweights so that they could stand longer and distract the enemy to themselves. So, I headed back to Mohr’s laboratory.
Chapter 65
The choice is made. The tactics of the fight. A perfect circle.
Another day has passed, and I still have not decided which class to choose from. Well, at least I upgraded my spatial pocket to nineteen and got another additional cell. I also improved my accumulation ability to level nine. My improved vision greatly helped me to operate energy, so I soon saw a very important message.
The ability “Simple manipulation of energy” up! Current Level: 10!
This ability is converted! The new ability is available!
Ability “Manipulation of energy”! Current Level: 1!
Wow, it means I’v
e become stronger. Great! While I was busy, Skal caught up with me. He also reached level 25 and immediately chose the necromancer class, without even asking anyone except Mohr. I felt that his strength had significantly increased. I was just for my friend. After some thought, and I finally made my choice.
“Derergon, can you teach me the characteristics of the warrior class?” I asked, coming up to the leader of the mercenaries.
“No problem,” the warrior nodded. “I’m a little surprised. I thought you might be better suited to a necromancer or a magician. I think the two-legged could teach you something.”
“So do I, but after reading about the classes, I realized that if I chose warrior, this would be the right decision,” I explained. “Necromancer, of course, is good, but I don’t really like working with the energy of death, and besides, Skal is now a necromancer. I feel this is not for me.
I don’t want to become a heavyweight because I’m used to being more agile and flexible. The magician cannot use swords, but my experience tells me that it will be hard to do without them, and I’m not sure that I can deal with enemies only with the help of energy.
An archer... I can’t say I know much about them, but where can I get a bow in the cave? Palladin... everything is much more difficult because Lintirionel’s skills are similar to mine,” I did not say that I had a healing gene. Nobody should know about it for now, because during all this time I have not met a single beetle who had such an ability. Only Trirlil was able to heal. “And a killer is not what I feel like. In the end, I decided that a warrior would be the best option. What’s more, nothing prevents me from using magic.”
“I understand,” Derergon said with a grin, expressing joy.
The selection confirmed! Selected class: Warrior!
“There are three standard skills, but you can only study one for now,” said the leader of the mercenaries. “So, choose.”
Blade hit.
Description: a strong attack capable of causing considerable damage, but it will be useless against an agile target.
Hit series.
Description: Multiple and quick sword attacks. They can be used against both single and multiple targets. However, the damage of each attack is not great.
Accurate blow.
Description: A quick and accurate attack that causes average damage. It is guaranteed to hit even an agile target. The downside is the small number of such attacks in a row.
A hard choice again. On the one hand, a more powerful blow would be useful, because I often meet higher level opponents, but on the other hand, with the elementals and spirits, an accurate hit would be more useful, because they are quite deft. A series of hits is good only when you are attacked by many low-level opponents, but I have not yet encountered such a situation and I am unlikely to face it. So, it’s a choice between accurate and strong. Hmm... that's a hard choice. I'd rather take two abilities at once. After a little more thought, I finally made my choice.
“Derergon, teach me to blade hit.”
“That’s a good choice, given that we fight against the spikers, who will be mostly above your level. An accurate blow is also not bad, but you will learn it later when you master this skill.”
A skill learned: “Blade hit”!
“And now, don’t panic and get ready.”
“For what?” I asked, but I didn’t have time to hear Derergon’s answer.
Attention! The process of transforming your body into Warrior class has begun!
Wow! At first, it was a little painful, then my legs began twitching convulsively, and I fell on the ground. My eyes doubled, my head began to spin, my breathing became difficult and my heart began beating fast as if I was running from an army of spikers for half a day.
This did not last long, and then relief came, and I managed to get a hold of myself. It became noticeably easier and my mood improved a little.
The body transformation process has been successfully completed!
Stats: Mobility +4, Knowledge +2, Strength +4, Life +3.
Level up! Current Level: 28.
...
Level up! Current Level: 30.
Now I can deal with average spikers so that I can help the mercenaries in this difficult battle. Several times I squeezed and opened my hand, feeling my increased strength.
“I see now you have a blade, that will be enough up to level 40, and then we’ll find something better for you,” Derergon smiled. “Now grab the blade and activate the skill, and I will help you.”
Obeying him, I lifted the sword and swung it at Derergon, but he easily repelled my blow. After waiting a bit for my skill to activate, I repeated the attack and again the mercenary repelled it, but I felt how much more powerful this skill was in comparison with my usual attacks.
My blade cut through the air with a hiss and rang when I hit the opponent’s sword. The attacks passed one into another, and I tried to activate the skill in time so that the chain of blows would be more balanced. Time flew by.
“Let’s call it a day because you have already upgraded your skill to level two," said the mercenary.
I definitely needed to train more, and I know where it can be done, I just needed to take Skal with me. Together we will be able to kill more energy spawns in the ancient city.
“Der, I will need to leave for a few days, Skal will most likely come with me.”
“Well, come to the meeting first, that’s in a couple of hours, there you will hear about our next steps. And then you can devote all your time to training,” the mercenary waved at me and headed towards his house.
At the meeting, I met all the mercenary leaders, there were also the rippers and Mulf and Mohr.
“I gathered you here to come up with an idea,” said Derergon. “Since we know the exact time of the attack, we can easily equip a large number of mercenaries. Am I right, Grolm?”
“Certainly,” the dwarf nodded. “The metal is great, so each next product turns out better than the previous one and takes less time to produce. I have not seen such a beautiful metal for a long time.”
“But I don’t like how the heater the works,” the magician growled.
“Never mind, have some patience,” Lintirionel grinned.
“The equipment will make us stronger, but in our city, there are not enough defensive structures. No traps or barricades. It will be very hard to defend it, so I propose to attack the spikers. What do you think?”
“What is there to think about? I am for it!” said the beetle with two pairs of jaws.
“Not everything is so simple here,” said another leader.
“We need to think.”
The mercenary and ripper leaders began to discuss the pros and cons of this idea. Some said that not all spikers would attack us and that it would be easier for us to deal with them here.
Others claimed that our attack would be unexpected so the spikers would be unprepared for battle, and this would significantly thin out their rows.
There was also the suggestion to make an ambush, wait until the spikers come out of their lair and attack them from behind, and then when they turn around and start fighting the attackers, attack them again from the rear, by a different detachment.
This way we could form a ring and make them spin like a hoop. But we didn’t have enough forces to implement this plan.
We could also hide the civilians and allow the spiker squad to enter the city, after which they could be destroyed immediately by attacks from all sides, but this idea was also rejected.
After lengthy negotiations, they accepted Derergon’s idea. So, we will attack the spikers on the eighth day.
This would give us enough time for me and Skal to gain strength and upgrade our skills. Derergon indicated the meeting place on my map if we don’t return earlier.
While Skal and I were heading to the ancient city, I looked at my map, which had become much larger. And I was embarrassed by a perfectly even circle in the middle of the cave, shrouded in fog. But the most surprising thing was
that there was no entry to be found anywhere.
Chapter 66
Training in the ancient city. The development. Different energies.
Skal and I reached the ancient city, quickly overcoming all the traps, and it was only that dumb zombie the disturbed us several times.
But the stakes were too harmful to him. There were many more creatures that we could eliminate and get experience points that we needed so much.
We managed to test our abilities on little spirits and elementals, and we got quite a bit of experience for that. It was strange, but while I was gone, these creatures began to appear again.
It would be great to bring the little fellows that we saved here. They would be able to up their levels quickly. It is sad when you have to share something of your own with others, but I thought that they needed it more.
Skal supported my idea, so we would deal with this issue after the war with spikers, we just need to figure out how to get them to the traps.
A few days later, we finally stumbled upon our first serious obstacle. Or more precisely, the first spawn, which required us to use all our available reserves.
Autumn Elemental, Level 30
The creature only remotely resembled its fifth level fellow. This air whirlwind was much denser and the leaves that flew around it were much larger. And its rustling and whistling were frightening.
The autumn elemental was dangerous, and its first leaf stuck deep in my shell, while the others dug into the stone pavement.
I could not use the blade hit since the creature was simply colossal. However, my developed brain suggested an interesting idea that Skal’s zombie-warrior would perform easily.
The two-legged dead distracted the elemental and it went after him with rage, and at that moment, we attacked. I struck him with my blade, which took away a good part of his health, and the gravedigger attacked him with the energy of death, which made most of his yellow leaves fade.
I used the energy of Water and was able to finish the creature off. It slammed me with its energy, leaving a couple of deep scratches on my shell.
Each of us lost half of his health in this battle, and the zombie almost died a second time. It was hard, too bad we couldn’t use an army of these creatures against the spikers, then our victory would be assured.
