by Allen Dark

So I’ve been thinking and times like this makes me nervous. My hunters are unable to do their jobs because of the investigation the boy caused and in mean mean realize just how unsecure this community is. If something like this took place on a bigger scale we would start. That is what I want Nepolai for. He said.

Nor wasn’t understanding what he was getting. What can Nepolai do that You hunters can’t? Nora asked.

The boy plans to become a surgeon in my right? He asked. Nor squinted one her eyes and raised the other eyebrow. Yeah he was but based on his grades he would have to make a huge turnaround she thought.

That’s an extremely valuable asset just behind the mere fact that it’s low risk. I don’t know why I haven’t thought of it sooner. He said. You understand right your physician. She did understand. She can blame him for wanting to have an asset light that. She had access to patient’s record which was like looking at a dinner menu. I know that’s how you been surviving this whole time. You kill and colleagues patients in ways that can’t be found in an autopsy and he take the bodies home for yourself. I have to say it’s clever. Which is one of the major reasons I’m in love with you. And not just beautiful your smart. I would’ve never had this idea if it wasn’t for you. He was somewhat right she didn’t the entire bodies. Some she just harvested the organs some she just took parts of the body. It wasn’t as easy as he thought.

You know that will never happen. Nepolai is too stubborn and even if he wasn’t I would eat you before he ever joined the community. She said. She spent so long almost half of her life making sure Nepolai was safe from the community and the burden that they cause. She wasn’t just going to let him through all that time and effort away. She was confident that Nepolai what join the community but she knew that his curiosity might get the best. Nora and jumped from the table. Were done. And tell your hunters a stay away from my house or I’ll eat them. She said. The father laughs as she walked out of the dining room.

Nora! I will get what is mine! You can be sure that! He said is always echoing out into the lobby. You still the boy for me and now it’s time to pay your debt! She stopped at the front door and looked back into the dining room. Drive safe. He said. Nora walked out of slammed the door.

  Chapter 14

Nepolai have been slaving away in the kitchen working on a second batch of rice. It was unlike him to mess up this. This time he was performing for an audience and felt a little pressure even though he’s made simple risotto. He blamed the first batch burning on the fact that he wasn’t paying attention. That was a possibility seeing that Rylan was his audience. She finally accepted Nepolai’s offer to come over for dinner even though it’s not what he originally had in mind.

What meter you cooking with it? She asked. She looked over at the thick wide freezer paper. It was labeled calf. I never seen any meat shape like that. Nepolai thought it was ironic. She was the one that was supposed to be wrapped up in freezer paper on the counter. Well parts of her he thought. He wouldnt be in a rush to eat all of her.

Calf muscle he said looking back. This time he was standing over the rice making sure nothing happened to it.

Yeah I can see that from the label. She said. But where did you get it from? She asked.

A X[DAB16]. Me and Nora went hunting about a month ago and it’s one of the things we’ve had left in the cellar. We don’t let any part of the animal go to waste. He said turning back to the rice. He stirred it until it started to get creamy. Rylan’s eyes flared open and her eyebrows jumped or for head. She was surprised and had some reservations about it when she first seen it. She didn’t know people actually ate cafs. It’s actually pretty good I think you’ll like it. He said.

Okay I’ll try it. She said. Rylan have been enjoying the time she was spending with Nepolai and for a while it’s the first time she’s actually felt safe and secure. She liked him there was no doubt about it but she was wondering if she was only chasing the security she felt like couldn’t get anywhere else. But she wasn’t going to fight it. Everyone deserve to to feel wanted it was a part of human nature. Rylan watched Nepolai cut up to calf and throw it in the skillet. He had stop stirring the risotto so it’s safe to say that it was safe and he didn’t need to start a new batch. The skillet sizzled in the air ill a smoky aroma that reminded her of Rabbi steak. It’s not delicious and Nora couldn’t wait to eat the risotto. While she was waiting for him to finish up she couldn’t help but think about those men who barged in on Madison’s funeral today. It made her realize that she forgot to think Nepolai for taking her.

Did I ever thank you for taking me to Madison’s general? She asked.

No, but you being here and letting me cooking dinner for you is all the thanks that I need. He said.

She shined a smile that she couldn’t help but let grow from her face. She tucked her hair behind her ear. Would you think about those guys who showed up today? She asked. Nepolai either from the corner of his face. I don’t know if it to the way they looked or the questions they ask. She said remembering the close that the close that they were wearing were completely out of place. It was as if they didn’t even try to fit in. It was all strange to her.

Yeah thought they were a bit out of place for sure but I didn’t sense anything on about them. He said shutting off and I of the stove. She couldn’t remember what they said and how they said it as if they were standing in front of her right now repeating it.

Who says that? Someone’s death is a waste? She asked. Were they referring to her being so young? Is possible but that wasn’t alive she was getting from them. Rylen sat on the counter top next to the sink and grabbed a glass of wine. I have a feeling that they were friends of the family. Nepolai rubbed the back of his neck and avoids looking at her. He tries to pay little to no mind because he would rather talking about these people. He knew who they were and what they were it would deal with him later. I wonder if I was right about the killer still being out there. She said and drunk from her glass.

Maybe. It’s also possible that they were working with Gibbs that would explain the theory from before. Dammit he thought. Engaging with her was only going to dig him more into a hole with her.

Yeah but why Madison? What does Gibbs possibly have to gain from killing her? That’s what I don’t understand. She said she was right Gibbs had nothing to gain he was a detective just doing his job who happened to come across the cannibal who gave him the opportunity to back off. Now he was paying for it and would spend the rest of his life in prison on to murder charges. It was great for Nepolai but terrible for an innocent human being. Nepolai didn’t respond he was walked into speak about Gibbs anymore because it was starting to seem as though he was fixated on Gibbs being the killer. He knew if he continued Rylan will become suspicious of him. He’d rather avoid that entirely. He had to change the subject But didn’t know how. Nepolai took a big plastic spoon he used to stire the risotto and grabbed a decent amount only taking up the tip of the spoon. He held his hand under it making sure none dripped on the floor and brought it straight across and stood in between Rylan’s legs putting the spoon to her mouth. She opened it and took a bite. Her legs were warm against Nepolai. The rice was still hot and cause her to open her mouth in order to let some of the heat out. Her eyes rolled back at how good the risotto was. She had no idea is cooking would be this good considering night started off with him burning the rice. She could only imagine how good the calf would be along with it. A little bit of cream smeared on the and should of her lips just meeting her cheek. Nepolai waited for her to lick it away but after watching her savor every bit of flavor of the risotto she never did. He hesitated for a moment but he took his thumb and rubbed it clean off while the back of his hand ran down her cheek to her chin. He looked the cream from his in the burst of ex-flavored ran across his tastebuds.

It’s so rude to waste food you know. He said staring into her honey Brown eyes. She stared back at him looking her lips as if there had been more cream some more on them.

  Did
I get it all? She asked staring down at him. She didn’t know how to feel with how close he was. She liked it but she wondered what his intentions were.

You got it. He said his little voice lower than usual. She felt the heavy draw to him and inched her head down. Her gut started to sink in. She had the overwhelming feeling of dread scared the rejection she came accustomed to her entire life. She was vulnerable and he knew that. He also knew that he was the same. Both aiming to fill a pit of emptiness that neither of them asked for. Nepolai inched forward staring at her tan lips. The top one being a darker shade than the bottom. Rylan felt Nepolai’s breath brushing against her chin. The buildup was killing her and if he was going to pull out don’t tease her but if he was going all in he needed to do it now.

Will you hurry up and kiss me? She said with a smile growing on her face and a TV shining behind him. He grinned and leaned in meeting her halfway and kiss. Nepolai grabbed her bar waste as she wraps her legs around his waist. He picked her up from the counter and turned to the stove shutting the last I off. Nepolai walked her to the steps still kissing her and carried her up the steps. He turned to his room and kicked the crack door open. He later down on his bed and stands back up to take his shirt off. Rylan kicked off her boots unbuckled her jeans and pulled them down. They were eight and got stuck around her ankles. Nepolai pulled the cuffs and yanked the pants from around her feet. She pulled off her longsleeve shirt and laid there in her bra and panties. He finally had her even though it wasn’t in the way he originally wanted he couldn’t help but wonder which one would be better or was it possible to have both? He leaned over and kissed her before sinking into her skin.

  Chapter 15

Rylan lied under the sheets next to Nepolai who was knocked out after she gave herself to him. He had been snoring and it was loud and obnoxious. But after 20 minutes went by she didn’t care anymore and thought it was a bit comforting to know that there was someone next to her. She didn’t know what to do with herself because she wasn’t sleepy. She started to think about what had just happened and what would happen between them from here on out. They didn’t even get there dinner from Stowe over to their plates. She wondered if she was moving just a little to fast but she can’t help but warmth burning inside of her being with him. She made him feel wanted something she hasn’t fell her whole life. But what that change she thought. What he started off of their but fadeaway like everyone she’s known so far. Even if it wasn’t by his own free will. Her parents left her to be basically raised by nannies in the only real friend she ever had left her even though she had no say in it. She laid there for the next half hour thinking about how real and complicated reality was and imagine something more simplistic.

Rylan’s phone buzzed from the nightstand next to the bed. She was wondering who was calling her because she never got any calls unless it was spam asking her if she wanted to go on the cruise or she was late on a payday loan she never took out and if she didn’t pay they would contact the authorities. Everyone she kept in contact with new she preferred text. She and the call and sat back down. He runs again the same number of the local area code. Rylan the green phone icon and answered.

Hey Nepolai can you tell me why there’s goons follow me around the city. A woman on her breath said to the phone. Rylan looked the phone closer realized that it wasn’t her phone and she answered it was Nepolai’s. She put the phone back to her ear before she could speak. You there? I think there from the dinner we went to last night. She said almost panting on the other line. she glanced over at Nepolai with a mischievous glare. What dinner she talking about? She quickly remembered Madison’s funeral. She thought she wondered if the two men this mysterious woman was referring to was the same two men that showed up to the funeral this morning. Rylan was lost in her thoughts and left the woman on the other end of the phone they are to listening to her breathing.

Hey! Are you there? The woman asked.

Hello, hey Nepolai is actually sleep right now. She said. What dinner are you talking about? She asked.

The phone clicked soon after in the phone red call ended. The phone open directly to the messaging at. At the bottom of the screen she seen a number that looks familiar and clicked on it. As she sat there for the brief second she wondered who that woman was. She sounded young but not to he young. Definitely in her early to mid 20s. There were a few messages that didn’t really make sense in were vague without much context. The first one red I know what you did. She clicked the call icon next to the number and placed the phone to her ear. She was curious just who’s number it was. He was familiar but she couldn’t quite put her finger to it. After the first ring her head jolted at the dresser straight across from the bed. Something in the dresser was buzzing in a pattern. Rylan wrapped the sheet over the front of her body and crept to the dresser. It was old and look like it was an antique. She stopped in slightly bent over just enough to where the sheet wouldn’t fall down. She a goldplated knob and pulled the drawer open. It was empty. She tried the second one and when she pulled it open the the ringing stopped and she heard Madison’s voice. Rylan’s mouth dropped as she looked at her friends phone sitting in Nepolai’s drawer. Thanks for hitting your girl up but I do have business to take care of so just leave voicemail even though most of the world is communicate into text nowadays. The automated voice came on telling her to leave her message. Rylan covered her mouth in her stomach started to curl in on itself.

Rylan hung up the phone. Her hands were shaking as she picked up Madison’s phone from the door. She can’t believe what she is seeing. Why was Madison’s phone in her’s drawer and why was he texting her. She looked back Nepolai who was still sleeping and closed the drawer. Her face was lifeless. A voice in her head was telling her that she needed to leave. Whatever reason it was for Madison’s phone being in his drawer it couldn’t have been good. She unlocked Nepolai’s phone and want to the call history of Madison’s number and the mysterious woman who called her. She needed to leave now and it was better if he didn’t know why she was gone when he woke up. An overwhelming sense of dread overcame her. The same feeling she had when seen Madison smashing into the concrete in front of her. She needed to get dressed. She looked for her close on the side of the bed and found her pants on the floor. She slid them on and reached for her boots. She remembered the night she seen Nepolai walking home for the first time. Her mind fixated on the freezer paper she found sticking out of his jacket and remembered that Madison was missing an organ. Not as she thinks about it it is weird that someone would be walking around with deli meat in their pocket. Maybe whatever she was missing was small enough to fit to fit in his jacket pockets. Her mind kept jumping around trying to fit pieces that she would have never thought about together. Her heart drops in their breathing skips a little when she sees Nepolai sitting in the back of the bar not meeting having a meeting with a friend but watching her. With malice in his eyes. The prickled hairs on her neck stood up and Her eyes to tear up. The bed moved behind her it in Nepolai his heavy snoring stopped. She wasn’t sure if he was awake or if his body was moving to get comfortable. But then she thought she was still sleeping he should be snoring. Her head inched around to look over her shoulder. Even though she was still and quiet tears still made their way down her cheeks. Nepolai was facing her but with his eyes closed and his head sunk into his pillow. He was still sleep. She let out a slight sigh and turned back around and slid on her boots. Her shirt wasn’t on the floor and she started to get anxious at how long it was taking her to get out the room. She stood up from the bed and seen the sleeve of her shirt hanging out from the pillow. She grabbed it and slid it on and placed his phone back on his night stand. She tried her best to make it looked the same way as she picked it up. Rylan headed for the steps in this placed her body weight just enough that she wouldn’t make any noise rushing down them. She headed in the kitchen and looked for her bag. She grabbed it from the doorway that led to the living room and march down the hallway. Her entire body was jetty she became relieved
when she seen the front door at the end of the hallway. She wanted to be far away from Nepolai as possible. Rylan reached for the doorknob and jumped. He woman was long orange curls slammed her hand on the glass door keeping it from opening.

What the hell are you doing creeping around my house? The woman asked Rylan. Rylan didn’t know what to say. The scorn she was giving her made her even more terrified to be in the house. All she could think is what’s wrong with these people and why won’t he let her leave. How hard was it to just get out the front door. She thought. Who are you? The woman asked. Rylan assumed that the woman was Nepolai’s mother but it was hard for her to confirm her assumption due to their obvious difference in complexion.

I’m sorry she said with the forceful but nervous smiled creeping in on her face. Nepolai invited me over for dinner but she paused and chuckled nervously. We didn’t get that far. She said clenching her bag. For a moment Rylan’s her to feel like she was trapped in someone else’s house. She wonder what the woman would do if she just yanked the door open with everything she had and stormed out. There’s no way this one a plastic keep me here she thought.

I noticed that. She said crossing her arms. The woman looked down on her like she was fresh meat and for all Rylan new she was. You know what to rude to waste food especially when is someone else’s. She said. Rylan didn’t say a word. As the same thing Nepolai told her before they had sex but hearing it a second time made it sound and feel coultish. Any home where you going? The woman asked. Rylan’s body began to scream. She thought she was indeed planning to keep her there and felt weaker by the second just thinking about it. Does Nepolai know your leaving? The woman asked.

No actually he fell asleep and I just got a call from my dad and were supposed to have breakfast in the morning so it will be better if I wake up in my own bed that way I don’t flake on him. She said surprise at her ability to lie so fluently on the spot. The woman looks skeptical of Rylan’s reasoning but her hand reached for the doorknob and she opened it letting Rylan out. She was free. Rylan took her time down the steep steps but when she heard the door clicked behind her she sped walk in almost jogged to her car. She looked back over her shoulder with the feeling of someone was right over her bank rated dragged her back into the house. She seen the woman washing her from the living room window. She got in her car2 her start button and skirted off.
