The Darker Side: Short Stories Page 9

by L. D. Hutchinson

Dancing was never my best ability, but I could still do it pretty well and I never minded it when I was buzzed enough. I was sure I was tonight for anything with these guys; they never ceased to settle down.

The whole club’s atmosphere was incredible, by far. The club it’s self was huge, three floors, and those floors weren’t small three to five thousand could be on each one. No matter where you stepped there were people roaming around, dancing, kissing, and more. It was amazing and a little disturbing.

The floor we were all on was the main floor, it had the dance floor of course, and it was big enough for all the people who were here to move around comfortably. There were no lights, well bright ones anyways the whole place seemed to be drenched within darkness with small spots of dim lighting here and there.

Though there were the neon lights coming from the dance floor they didn’t do much more than light up clothes in different colors really. But, it was all neat when it finally fit it’s self together to mesh into what it was.

On the other side of the dance floor was the bar, dimmed small lights hung over it - I thought they were cute - they gave it barely enough light to see anyone’s faces who sat over there, the bar was made of nothing more than glass, and inside of it was stacked bottles of alcohol every flavor and brand you could think of. Food was there as well, just in case anyone got the munchies - if you catch my drift.

The bar reached as far as my eye was able to see, and barstools lined up with it perfectly, leather covered each one though it was made of extraordinarily comfortable foam, and the steel legs on them made them look too expensive to be put in here.

On the opposite side of where the bar was, there was a lounge area strictly of course for - lounging. There were couches for those who wanted to relax and some tables, small candles in the center of those.

I remember from sitting on one of the couches when I first came in with everyone, they were velvety feeling ones, red type of covering over them and so soft you could fall asleep on them. Behind that area though was the glass staircase that lead up to the next floor - though I wasn’t sure what was up there, I did want to see.

“Ok Sarah, you picked a great - no an amazing place. I have to actually say, I love it.” I yelled over to the brunette, she only smiled over at me for a moment before yelling a barely auditable ‘Told you.’

“Angie! Angie!” Rebecca called, as soon as I had turned my head to see what she wanted she’d grabbed me by the arms and was dragging me away. Her blond hair flew in almost every direction as she pulled me farther into the crowd - I wasn’t too crazy about that part - before stopping and smiling at me.

I looked to see why she’d stopped and then it sunk in, we were standing exactly next to the DJ’s booth, and when I had gotten a good look at him, he was pretty cute looking. Not too old, not too young, nice hair, nice face, pretty smile; not a bad choice from her.

He turned his gaze for a moment and it fell on me, he was noticeably checking me out and smiling to himself as he did so, beginning to work his DJ booth into the next song. Rebecca stood closer to me, beginning to dance making me follow by default though I started laughing from how ridiculous we’d looked.

Minutes went by, but extremely quickly and I was beginning to really feel the effect of the alcohol I had drank finding its way to my head making me feel a little light on my feet. A few bodies had bumped into us pushing us closer for a moment as we continued to dance; Rebecca slowly leaned her head in closer to mine and began whispering into my ear.

“I, think he likes you, Angie.” She giggled a little bit, and that’s when I realized she’d been drinking too but I really didn’t have it in me to care.

I laughed for a moment, sounding like a maniac as I heard her say that to me then turned my head just slightly to look at the DJ out of the corner of my eye, flashing him a flirty smile as he smiled back at me and then just like that he changed the song.

“This one’s for all those single lades out there tonight.” He announced winking at me before he went to work making sure everything was working properly at his booth.

I began to dance with Rebecca again to the song, slowly taking in the whole night so far as it was beginning to progress, it wasn’t that bad at all in fact, I was beginning to hope every weekend was this fun really.

“Angie, we’re coming here tomorrow or something, you’re going to go right?”

“Of course! I love this.” I said smiling brightly at her.

“Ha ha, good!” She replied to me, then I let my eyes shift to the man walking up behind her, before she even noticed me looking he had his arms around her hips and was pressing his body into hers arching his neck and whispering into her ear - He was of course Seabastion.

She turned around facing him, giggled a few times then said something to him, his dark hair draped in his eyes as he looked down at her and slowly pressed his lips to hers, her small petite frame against his large one was almost unreal looking.

I smiled to myself laughing a little as I took that as my queue to leave and turned on my foot quickly and moved away disappearing out of their area so that they could be alone. I caught glimpse of Sarah’s brown hair then I saw who she was sitting down next to I decided to let her be alone with Anthony.

Smiling to myself a little I found one of my other friends within the massive crowd, Amanda DuChente, she was two and a half years younger than me and the rest of us but she was mature and fit in with us perfectly so we never minded having her around.

“Amanda!” I yelled happily as she came over to me.

“Angie!” She wrapped her arms around me tightly hugging me “This clubs great isn’t it?” she asked me I nodded before I was able to speak again from her hugging me so tightly.

“Yeah, it’s amazing. I love it!”

“Great!” Amanda said happily to me, then she grabbed hold of my hand and pulled me back into the crowd “No guy’s to take here tonight, found you; I say we score ourselves both a man.”

I laughed a drunk giggly laugh as I stumbled along after her, I wasn’t fully drunk but I could sure feel the effects sinking into my system “Hmm, Casey was teaching you new dance moves, wasn’t she?” I asked.

“Yep! I should try them out but see. They’re so hard to do alone.” She said jokingly pouting just a little bit.

“You ma’am, are so very lucky I was drinking or I’d say no.” I said sternly but she could see I was joking a bit, then she began to start grinding up against me, I only did it back in return laughing and stumbling a bit.

Our two bodies stayed close together throughout the next several songs, gaining the eyes of various men and almost drown out cat calls from others. It only caused us to feel more excited and more willing to keep dancing.

More eyes began to watch us, before without a warning two men came in between us and pulled one of us off to the side, keeping one of us to themselves. I danced with the man for a while, enjoying how much he was showing off and being goofy, it was fun.

Then a pair of strong muscular hands sat themselves down onto my hips, I swayed to the music still ignoring the feel of his arms on me until his mouth moved closer to my neck, he breathed warm breath against the skin and I swear sniffed me.

Once the song had ended he only let his head drop closer towards my ear, it freaked me out a little bit but, it was a club and my friends were here I figured I’d be ok if worse came to worse. He pressed his lips closely to my ear and whispered in it.

“Want to get some drinks with me?”

I thought it over for a moment then shrugged my shoulders a little bit and then agreed with him, he grabbed my hand and pulled me with him towards the bar and sat me down next to him. He didn’t even ask as he ordered two shot’s and two full glasses of Russian Vodka, but I didn’t mind it.

“Live around here?” He asked me pushing over one of the shot glasses and Vodka.

“Yeah, few blocks.” I managed to get out before picking up the shot and throwing my head and the glass back takin
g it quickly, and drinking some of the vodka right after.

“I see.” He said drinking half of his portion of his Vodka he had sitting in front of him before ordering four more shots, of whiskey and a glass of tequila, I didn’t argue really, I loved whiskey.

Time went by quickly as I began to do shot after shot; I washed each one down with some Vodka and Pepsi after I had finally got around to ordering myself one.

I spoke randomly to him about anything that came to mind, and honestly I was beginning to feel the effects of a buzz, no it was way more than a buzz at this point, I was getting drunk and somewhere deep down inside I knew it - I just ignored it.

I hadn’t been this bad in years, not since I was about eight-teen years old but at this point, I was already too far gone for and panic or worry to really hit my system besides, I was too busy staring at his face completely enjoying the view.

He was maybe twenty at the most, he had a set of light brown hair that lay in waves along his head, and almond shaped hazel eyes. His skin was the lightest shade of pale I had ever really laid eyes on.

He was thin, but there was muscles moving a little bit throughout his arms and chest as he moved around, and he was tall - oh god he was tall at least six foot maybe a bit taller than that, but tall men were attractive.

But all in all, something was a little off about him, I had the feeling I always got when something was going wrong. My stomach flipped and my head throbbed a little bit, but dammit - I was having a good time, I’d be damned if I had to leave!

“Ugh, this whole place is boring, with a capital B!” I slurred giggling as I did and then slowly lowered my head onto my arms.

“Well,” he started looking at me slowly running his arm up my thigh “Why don’t we go back to my place?”

“Mm, maybe, but I never caught your name.” I said looking up slowly

“It’s Marvin.” He said point blank, standing himself up and helping me up with him “Now, shall we go?” He asked smiling at me, his smile was really almost hypnotizing in its own way, I was so fascinated by it but I remembered to answer.

“Y-Yeah.” I nodded and he carefully began to walk me outside into the parking lot, we walked past several cars, any of which I had really thought were his but then we stopped at what was really his - a Ferrari.

It was all black, and made me stare for several seconds - honestly I thought it was the booze playing games with my head at first - then he urged me forward and opened the door for me, slowly pushing me inside and shutting the door once my leg was out of the way.

I leaned back a little bit as Marvin slid in the other side of the car, his hand traveling up my thigh once more and going a little too far. He leaned over and started to kiss me roughly and I blinked waking up from dozing and shoving him off me.

He growled deep in his throat and his eyes turned a deep shade of red that was when it dawned on me either I was going mentally insane, or he wasn’t human at all, in any way, shape or form.

Fear began to sweep over me and I felt sober instead of drunk at this point in time, he noticed it though and pulled back away from me, pinning me down against the seat with one arm and covered my mouth with his other.

I began to scream uselessly against his hand as he opened his mouth and showed me a pair of white canine incisors slowly sliding down from the gums with a loud pop. I stared at him as he inched closer to my throat and then whispered.

“Calm down little girl, it’ll only hurt for a moment.” he let out a sinister laugh as he finished his statement.

No sooner than after he spoke did I feel his teeth sinking into my flesh, the pain was horrible at first I felt like someone was shoving a knife inside of my skin and burning it at the same time, and the pop my skin made when the skin broke disgusted me.

But, after a few seconds I began losing feeling everywhere within my body, I felt like all my nerves were shutting off and I was just floating there as he fed from me. My eyes began to droop from the feeling but I was aware of everything around me and I could still see a bit.

Right about then was when I saw something go flying past the windshield of the car, I wasn’t able to move or make a sound but I wanted to catch the attention of whatever or whoever that had been.

It didn’t matter though, right after I saw it the passenger side door came flying off the hinges and Marvin was ripped away from my neck and disappeared leaving me alone in the dark and bleeding for what seemed like ages.

Moments later, the shadow I saw before I realized was a man, and he had come back and was tending to my neck as carefully as possible then brushed some of my hair out of my face. He checked me over once more then lifted me up into his arms and took me back inside the club.

He set me down on one of the chairs that held several familiar things of Sarah’s that I recognized, I felt safer now at least for that moment in time I did, and I managed to fall into a deep dreamless sleep.

I awoke to find myself back at the house the next morning, to be completely honest with you I had no clue how I got there or when, I just knew I had a nasty hangover and some blurred images of the night before.

I crawled out of bed slowly; my muscles sore and achy as I moved myself to the kitchen and started a pot of coffee that was well needed. While it brewed I went and found the Tylenol and popped out two from the container throwing my head back and swallowing them.

Within time between sipping the warm coffee and not thinking about food, my head finally eased itself up enough that I threw off what I was remembering as a bad dream and picked up my cell phone and began to dial Sarah’s cell number.

“Morning Sar.” I said into the phone

“Mornin’, how you feeling Avangeline?” she asked

  “Fine now, you?”

“Fine. So listen, you want to go back to that club tonight or try out a new one?”

  “Your choice.”

“We’re going to a different one then.”

“Alright.” I said smiling a little bit to myself, clubbing was fun enough, even better with a huge group of friends who can tag along and goof off with you and make it twice as fun as it would be alone.

“I’ll come and get you around, say - Tenish? So be ready.”

“Alright I will. I’m going to go take a shower and head out and pay some bills, so talk to you later.”

  “OK, talk to you later.”

After that I stopped the call and set my phone down on the kitchen counter, I looked over at Adonis and pet him a few times, he was my cat and very, very worried about what he got - notice the name - and always worried about making sure he was clean more so than most cats.

As soon as I removed my hand from his side he gave me a nasty look and then got started at cleaning his fur where I had touched him, I rolled my eyes and left towards my bed room. It was already three which meant I probably had two hours to get the bills for today paid, I needed to move.

I got out some clothes and set them out, then headed into my bathroom quickly and shut the door behind myself. I stripped the clothes I had off from my body being careful about it and then turned on the shower and let it warm up.

Once it was at the right heat I stepped in and let the hot water pour against my flesh, my hands moved up against my neck where it stung a little and felt the cuts on my skin and blinked a few times before pulling my hand away, and quickly got showered.

I stepped out, wrapping a towel around my body and moving towards the mirror inspecting the cuts that had appeared on my skin over night, I let thoughts slide into my mind but not very many. It was enough that I could piece together what had happened - or well my version.

“Obviously, that Marvin guy was a complete psycho, got me drunk and then,” I swallowed shaking my head a little bit “tried his kinky blood games on me and while holding me down I must have screamed and someone saved me.” I nodded to myself and laughed a little “In my drunken state I added a few fantasy like things is all.”

I pulled my clothes on piece by piece, when I was
finally finished with that I looked myself over in the mirror, the burgundy off the shoulder sweater with a pair of jeans and purple converse was enough for me really, I mean I was only going to pay bills.

I pulled my hair up into a tight ponytail, letting my bangs sweep across my forehead mainly pilling themselves onto my left side, with that I felt content and muttered a quick ‘That’ll do’ to myself before running out of the bathroom.

I grabbed my apartment key and wallet shoving both into my jean pockets and left just like that locking the door so that nothing would happen, though in this neighborhood, I doubted anyone would really ever try much of anything.

I walked down the stairs saying hello to some of my passing neighbors, hitting the apartment building door and leaving quickly. The sky for once was clear and the sun was shining brightly, but despite the appearance it was chilly out I was extremely happy for putting on the sweater.

I followed the sidewalk to a small store that was just next door practically paying off a few of my more important bills there before counting what I had left after that. “I don’t have to pay electric until Thursday, rents paid, water and trash are paid, and so is the internet…” I mumbled to myself and slid the money back into the wallet.

Quickly, I turned on my heel and started to walk back towards my apartment; I got about a two blocks and then slammed head first into a man, nearly falling onto my ass. He grabbed me by the waist before I could and set one of his hands on the small of my back to hold me up without hurting me.

“Should probably watch where you’re going.” he said almost completely monotone

“I-I’m sorry…” I stuttered looking up at him “I was counting money, and let my mind wander a bit and then I- I’m so sorry.” I rambled on before he stood me back up right and lifted his hand in a manner to shut me up.

“Its fine, its fine.” he started smiling a little bit though really, it looked more like a grimace on him “Just be careful, someone may not take it as kindly.”
