“Yes, I have. But now I have my cause. I’m going to help people with speech problems.”
He smiled. “And a noble cause it is, sweetheart. Rafe’s a good man. So do you think the two of you will move to Noelle?”
“Father, he’s got a thriving business here. There’s actually talk of running him for town council, even with his stammer.”
“Okay, I was just asking.” He smiled at her. “I suppose your mother and I can come to Bent now and then.”
“It’s only a day and a half by rail. And we’ll see you during the holidays.”
“Good. Do you think he could fashion me a new podium for the church?”
“Father, the music is starting …”
“It’s just that I’m nervous.”
“You and me both. And please, don’t make Rafe nervous. He’s worried enough about the vows.” She smiled at him.
He smiled. “I suppose I already did. I’m glad you saw Rafe for the man he is, not just the way he talks.”
“So am I.”
“He loves you.”
“And I love him. Now please, let’s go. And don’t let me trip.”
Her father kissed her on the cheek. “I’ll try not to.”
They followed Myrakle down the aisle. Jasmine’s eyes locked with Rafe’s the moment she saw him, and her heart melted on the spot. He was the perfect man for her.
When they reached the wedding party Rev. Chase Hammond stopped, turned to the wedding guests and grinned. “Who gives this woman?”
Rev. Adams, out from Oregon to officiate the ceremony for his son, glared at his fellow preacher. “That’s my line. But I gather you do?”
“Well, uh, yes.” Everyone laughed as he put Jasmine’s hand in Rafe’s.
Rev. Adams shook his head, gave his son a wink and began. “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today …”
Chance and Violet Redburn held hands and smiled. It might have been the most unorthodox wedding of the brides, (sans having a chicken and a cat biting child in attendance) but the Redburns knew a job well done when they saw it. And while herding all those brides to the altar might not have been easy, it was one of the most satisfying things either of them had ever done.
