CHAPTER THREE
By four in the afternoon, the finals drops of the medicine had gone into Gabriel’s veins. Kahlil moved over to them and removed the needle from Gabriel’s arm. He remained on the floor, panting and sweating as his body still surged with residual pain. However, his body rapidly began to recover. His panting eased to regular breathing as he stayed leaned into Olivia’s embraced.
They gave him a bit of time to come down from the medicine before Kahlil finally spoke, “How do you feel?”
There was silence in the room as Gabriel thought on his answer, getting a feel for his body.
“Hungry,” he breathed finally, “and dehydrated.”
Kahlil grinned then, “The transformation worked then. Here, stand.”
Olivia helped Gabriel to his feet. He wobbled a bit at first but found his balance.
Kahlil held his forearm out, “Squeeze as hard as you can and do not hold back.”
Gabriel gave him a quizzical look, looking down to his forearm. Hesitantly, he reached out and grabbed his forearm with one hand. His hand had encircled his arm before Gabriel squeezed as hard as he could, his knuckles turning white.
“While you’re a strong man, and that definitely hurts, it is certainly not superhuman strength. You now have approximately seven hours and forty minutes of mortality until you start to transform back into a vampire. I have no way of telling you if you are fertile. However if you ever had a chance of being fertile, this would be the time. I would take advantage of this timeframe and make as many attempts as possible. But please take it as easy as possible. Your body has been through a lot and will continue to until you are back to your old self. I’ll be here if you need anything.”
Gabriel extended a hand and gave him a handshake, “Thank you so much for your service, Kahlil. I’ll be in touch.”
Gabriel walked out of the room with Olivia.
She couldn’t keep her eyes off him, looking for any changes in his appearance. He seemed like the same Gabriel she always had. Was he really human? Then again, if being a vampire was a disease like they had told her, then would he look any different?
“I can’t believe you’re human…” she mumbled.
“Well, believe it. At least for the next few hours,” he chuckled.
“You seem to be doing rather well for someone who was just vomiting and screaming in pain…” she commented.
“Oh no, I feel like shit. Literally like being hit by a bus, maybe even a train… but we have things to do. But I really need to eat. I feel like I could faint I’m so hungry.”
Gabriel and Olivia returned to their room briefly to shower and dress before heading back out for dinner. She noticed as they showered his skin wasn’t cold, which was actually a little strange for her, but she liked it at the same time.
Gabriel had a different air about him. Typically, he walked like there was a rain cloud over his head because of the neverending stress he put himself through. But right then, he seemed full of life and giddy almost.
They walked through the lobby of the hotel, towards the door. His eyes were fixated on the door, several emotions flashing across his face. Olivia couldn’t even imagine what it would feel like to walk into sunlight for the first time in nearly two thousand years. She could practically feel the anxiety radiating from his bones. It was so strange to see Gabriel like this. He was usually so sure of everything and very confident. It was almost like he was a child again.
Walking through the rotating door, they stepped outside, and Gabriel closed his eyes as the sunlight his skin.
“How does it feel?” Olivia asked him curiously.
He didn’t speak for a moment, just standing there with his eyes closed, “I can’t even describe it,” he breathed. “It’s amazing, though. Warmer than I remember.”
Olivia smiled and squeezed his warm hand, moving to walk down the street. They took their time on the walk, Gabriel wanting to enjoy the sunlight. It was an emotional time for Gabriel, literally not feeling sunlight in hundreds and hundreds of years. They eventually reached the restaurant and walked inside. When they sat he ordered a whiskey right away.
Olivia chuckled a bit, “Babe you gotta remember you can’t drink like you did as a vampire. And when you’re human alcohol effects a certain organ for men.
Gabriel paused, realizing she was right.
He gave a nod, “I’ll just have one and then switch to something else.”
“When was the last time you drank something that wasn’t alcohol?” she asked out of sheer curiosity.
He pondered for a moment before giving a chuckle himself, “I have no idea.”
When the waiter returned to get their food order, Olivia ordered a pasta entrée and Gabriel ordered himself pasta, a burger, salmon, and several sides. The waiter looked at him like he was a madman, but Gabriel didn’t even flinch. And when the food was served, Olivia and the server were in awe as he dug ravenously into the food.
“You weren’t lying when you said you were hungry,” Olivia commented.
“Food hasn’t tasted this good in so long,” he managed to get out through the large bites of food. “When you’re a vampire, nothing tastes good, and food becomes just about texture. Without flavor, everything has a horrible texture.”
Olivia picked at her pasta as she watched as he destroyed each plate of food. He guzzled down the soft drinks as well, never having had them before.
“It literally seems like your body hasn’t eaten in fifteen hundred years,” Olivia added as Gabriel paid the check.
He nodded, “I know, I could honestly eat more if I wanted to. I’ll definitely be getting more food, but I know we need to head back…and get down to business.”
They stood from the table and headed outside. Once again, the couple walked slowly, letting Gabriel enjoy the sunlight. She didn’t mind how long it took to walk back, loving to see him so happy at something so simple. She wouldn’t dare try and steal that joy from him since he only had such a short window to enjoy it.
CHAPTER FOUR
As they walked into their hotel room, Olivia could feel the mood in the air shift. They had gotten distracted for about an hour and a half to let him enjoy the simple pleasures that came with being human—after all, he deserved that at the very least after how much pain he went through for the transformation. But when they walked back into the room, it was like they both remembered the original reason they had done it. They were supposed to be making a baby. Olivia sat her bag down on an armchair and looked over to Gabriel.
It was almost awkward. They had never been the type to schedule sex, it always had just sort of happened. How did you go about initiating sex when it wasn’t in the moment? Olivia couldn’t even think of how. A blush came over her cheeks as she tried to think, moving over to the bed and sitting on the edge.
Gabriel moved to sit next to her, glancing at the time, “Well, we managed to waste two whole hours. Six hours to go.” She nodded nervously in response.
Almost as though he could read her thoughts, Gabriel picked her chin up and tilted her face towards his. He kissed her deeply and lovingly. Even with everything he had been through that day, she was still his priority. They kissed sweetly at first, but it easily grew heated. His tongue pressed against her lips, asking for entrance. Their tongues grazed against one another’s tenderly, Gabriel’s hand grabbing her hip and pulling her body against his. Slowly, he moved them to where he laid over her, his lips devouring hers.
Even though it was heated and pleasant, Olivia’s chest was filled with anxiety. There was so much pressure behind what they were doing. He had been through so much, and she knew she would blame herself if it didn’t work, regardless of whether it was her fault or not. Gabriel was getting into it, though, his body pressed into hers and his hands in her hair. She felt herself starting to panic. They should have gotten her checked out before going through all that. What if she was infertile herself?
Her hands began to shake, even though she tried to force the thoughts
from her mind.
He pulled back from the kiss. “Are you okay?” he asked, brushing some hair from her face.
“I’m alright,” she muttered, looking down.
“Liv…” he breathed, picking up her chin, leaping deep into her green eyes.
“This isn’t anything, baby. Don’t think about all that. Just focus on you and me, alright? Nothing different from any other time. We’ll take it slow, baby. Relax.”
Olivia nodded, taking a deep breath. Gabriel kissed her passionately, trying desperately to keep her mind off it. He wanted to distract her with his body, and she knew that. His hands ran down her front, groping her chest before gliding down her sides. She tried to force the stress from her mind. He was right, it was just like any other time. They didn’t have to do anything special. Gabriel kissed down her neck as his hands busied themselves with unbuttoning her pants. He undressed her slowly, lips covering her skin. With each kiss, it melted her stress a little more and pulled her into the moment. She kissed him back each time, pushing the shirt from his shoulders and unfastening his belt.
Soon, she forgot she had even been worried, completely consumed by him. Gabriel pulled her panties off, his hand stroking her tenderly. Slowly he brought her legs up to hook around his hips. He peered down into her eyes as he brought his member against her. Olivia brought her pelvis up, pushing his tip inside of her. Gabriel shuddered at the feeling, making her wonder if even sex felt different as a human. He pushed himself into her, gripping her legs as he did so.
“Oh fuck,” he breathed His eyes fluttered closed as he began to push in and out.
“Does it feel different?” she asked him in a whisper.
Gabriel nodded, “Yeah… I’m more sensitive,” he mumbled to her. “I don’t want to finish too quickly…”
She smiled warmly at him, pulling his face to hers.
“Well even if you do, we have the rest of the night to make up for it,” she tried to comfort him.
He smiled back to her, kissing her before picking up his speed. Typically, Olivia was the vocal one of the two during sex. But that time, Gabriel was constantly groaning and moaning as he moved in and out of her. His movements weren’t as rhythmic as they normally were, but definitely just as passionate if not more. The movements also weren’t as sensual, but tender and loving. It was sweeter than it usually was. His lips covered her shoulders and neck, trailing down her chest from time to time. Olivia moved her hips gently against his, stealing kisses from his lips every chance she got.
Pleasure and love filled them both, their bodies moving in perfect harmony. He rolled them over, placing her on top of him. She didn’t hesitate to grind her hips into his, a breathy moan escaping her as she did so. His head tossed back, biting his lip hard as she rode him. Her body began to build towards a climax as his hands gripped her hips hard and sped her movements up.
“Oh god, Liv,” he moaned.
Olivia swiveled her hips as she pressed back down on his member. She moved quickly on him, slamming down to the hilt of his member with every movement. Her body was edging towards climax, her breathing coming out in forced pants. Just as she was about to come, his hands tightly clutched her and brought her down hard against him. She could feel as his member swelled inside of her before he released, loud moans escaping his throat.
He laid there for a moment, trying to catch his breath.
His hands massaged her lower back, letting out a heavy sigh, “I’m sorry, babe…” he breathed, apologizing for going before she could.
“It’s okay,” she smiled softly down to him, moving off his member.
It occurred to her as she did so what they had just done. He always had released inside her, but that time was the only time he would be potentially getting her pregnant. Gabriel rolled them back over, kissing her neck. His tongue trailed across the sensitive skin, his fingers moving between her legs and rubbing at her clit. His teeth nibbled at her as his fingers picked up speed easily. Olivia let out a breathy moan, already starting to rebuild her climax. Two fingers dipped inside of her, working at her walls quickly. His mouth hung open from the arousal of it. Pleasure began to pile up in her body, her legs squirming as her body tried to fight against it. Soon, it was too much to hold off, wave after wave of ecstasy came crashing down upon her, her hips bucking into his hand instinctively. His movements slowed as she came down.
It took her a moment to recover, but soon she did and smiled sheepishly at him.
“You didn’t have to do that… We are going to have to do this several times,” she mentioned, meaning it was only important for him to orgasm.
“Might as well save the energy,” she teased.
“More like I was doing that to give me time to recover. We gotta go again very soon,” he chuckled.
“And to give you pleasure as well, of course,” he added with a wink.
Olivia laughed, “Of course.”
Gabriel gave a cheeky grin, leaning down and kissing her again. They kissed sweetly as they both relaxed, slowly getting back into a sensual mood. Even though the entire process wasn’t exactly pain-free, at least the baby-making process was pleasurable. Their whole evening was spent in bed, exploring one another’s bodies and forgetting what they were doing there in the first place. It was a strange experience for Gabriel to be human but it was definitely going to be memorable. Olivia had to admit it was nice to have a warm body against hers, though by the end of it, she missed his cool skin. She enjoyed human Gabriel as much as she could, though, knowing it would be the last time she would ever experience it.
CHAPTER FIVE
The clock was ticking towards midnight with just ten minutes left in the day. Gabriel and Olivia laid in embrace, both far too tired after hours of rolling around in the sheets. His fingertips trailed up and down her spine as he held her, his eyes looking up to the ceiling. Olivia’s eyes started to drift closed, her body longing for sleep after a long and physically exhausting day. She refused to sleep, though, wanting to spend every moment of Gabriel being human with him; and she wanted to be there for when he transitioned back into a vampire.
Her head rested on his shoulder, glancing over at the clock to see it was already 11:50 PM. Olivia craned her neck to see Gabriel. He was silent and just staring at the ceiling.
“Do you think it’s going to hurt?” she asked in a meek voice.
She hated the thought of him having to go through more pain after what he had already been through.
“Well, I don’t remember exactly how it feels to transition from human to vampire. But from what I’ve seen in my own nest, it definitely doesn’t feel good,” Gabriel muttered, his arm tightening around her.
A deep frown came over Olivia’s face, “I hate that you’ve had to go through so much just for a chance…”
His finger hooked under her chin, keeping her face tilted towards his, “It is worth every ounce of pain.”
Gabriel’s lips locked to hers then, moving slowly against hers.
Pulling back he gazed into her eyes, a smile tugging at his lips, “Besides, how many men can say the baby-making process for them was even remotely as painful as the woman’s part? Seems like we’ve gotten as close to an even trade as possible.”
Olivia chuckled a bit, shaking her head, “You’re so crazy.”
She stood from the bed then, pulling on a pair of panties and a bra before wrapping her robe around her. Sitting down next to him, she held his hand.
He intertwined their fingers, his eyes lingering on their hands before looking up to her, “I have to admit, I’ll miss being human.”
“Oh really?” she questioned, actually a little surprised. “How come?”
Gabriel gave a small shrug, “Things are just… different. Being a vampire for so long had dulled my senses. Things are just more enjoyable as a human. I feel more alive.”
There was a pause before he continued, “But, at least as vampires we will have one another forever; never having to worry about illness or dying of old age. Jus
t you, me, and our potential child.”
“That does sound nice,” Olivia smiled weakly.
Stealing another glance to the clock, it was just a couple of minutes away from midnight. As she turned to look back to Gabriel, he let out a loud groan. Her hand rested on his shoulder, eyes filled with concern. He sat up completely, resting his head in his hands.
“Do you want me to get Kahlil?” she asked.
Gabriel shook his head, “What good would it do?” he muttered. “I’ll be fine…”
A sweat broke out on his forehead, his face carved into a wince. Olivia rubbed his shoulder, unsure how to comfort him. He started to cringe, hunching over with his face buried in his palms. Olivia wondered if it was always so painful to transition between human and vampire, or if it was just particularly painful for him after all he had been through that day. The man continued to groan as the pain radiated through his body. After a few minutes, Gabriel’s back hunched as his hands gripped at his own face.
“Is there anything I can do?” Olivia frowned, feeling completely useless.
He was quick to shake his head no. Then, a sound similar to bones snapping came from him which made Olivia’s eyes widen. She tried to pry his hand away from his face so she could see if he was okay, but he was too strong for her to do anything. Gabriel’s muscles bulged just as they had when he made the transition to human. With her hand on his back, she could feel as his skin abruptly turned cold as ice. He wreathed in pain for what seemed like hours to Olivia but was probably only about ten minutes. His body then went still.
Olivia didn’t utter a word, not sure what to say or do to make anything better. She just hoped he was okay. Gabriel was a strong man, but there was only so much one person could take in a single day. He was still for a long time, but his breathing was in pants.
