Word-of-mouth is crucial for any author to succeed. If you enjoyed NOT ALONE - The Detectives of Hazel Hill Book One, please leave a review at Amazon.com. Even if it’s just a sentence or two. It would make all the difference and would be very much appreciated.

  Acknowledgments

Above all, I must thank my Lord and Savior for His work in my life. For bringing me to the point where I am today. For His gifting and courage, and more than anything His grace.

Thank you to my husband, Ken. Thanks for not laughing at me when I told you I was writing a book. Thanks for encouraging me to take steps toward my dream and calling that I didn’t even think were possible.

Thank you to my three girls. Thanks for being awesome and such great inspiration.

Thank you to my mom. Thanks for always being willing to proofread a random scene or answer an obscure medical question.

Thank you to my friends and family who have all rallied behind me with words of encouragement.

Thank you to my beta readers who helped me see holes in my plot and gave me the courage I needed to keep going.

Thank you to my editor, Teresa. Thanks for teaching me to think outside the box (oops, a cliche) and helping me hone the craft.

Thank you to my cover designer, Alyssa. Thank you so much for blowing my mind with such a beautiful cover design.

Thank you to Ramy and Self-Publishing School for showing me how to do this self-publishing thing and being the kick in the pants I needed to get it done.

Thank you to my readers. I hope this story touches your heart and encourages you to trust Jesus.

  Author's Note

  Joshua 1:9

This is my command - be strong and courageous!

Do not be afraid or discouraged.

For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

Fear is a funny thing. We don’t always know when it’s going to creep in and take root in our hearts. It’s so simple to just say “just have faith,” but it feels a lot harder than that most of the time. The above verse from Joshua is just one of many commands the Lord gives us in the Bible to not fear. If He tells us not to, shouldn’t it be easier to obey?

  I wish.

So, what do we do when fear has gripped our hearts?

Pray. Ask God to give you the faith you need, the courage you long for, and the strength that is the joy of the Lord.

Praise. My dear friend puts it this way: praise is the devil’s kryptonite. When you speak the truth about how great and awesome our God is, the devil shrinks away, as does the fear, after all the devil is the one throwing those flaming fear arrows.

Read the Bible. The Bible is full of promises, full of stories of people just like us going up against impossible odds and trusting God through it.

Learning to trust God is a process. It’s something we grow in. Becca had to walk through the darkest valley possible, but in the end, she trusted that God was in charge even when she couldn’t see a way out.

My prayer for you, dear reader, is that you would trust God with all your heart. Even when life is at its lowest, God is with us. Even when things are all coming together, God is with us. Even when our baby is sick, God is with us. Even when we accomplish something huge, God is with us. Even when we watch other get what we longed for, God is with us. Even when… fill in the blank… God is always with us! We are not alone.

  About the Author

Liz didn’t always know she was a writer, but she was. From her earliest days, stories were a natural part of her imagination. In high school, she toyed around with writing, but it was nothing more than a secret hobby. But one day, when her middle daughter was a little over a year old, a story idea crept in her mind and wouldn’t leave her alone. So, she started writing. She would stay up late after everyone else was in bed and frantically write the words that brought her characters to life.

That first novel lives buried deep in her hard drive, and maybe one day it will see the light of day, but that would take a LOT of editing. About the time she couldn’t figure out where that first book would end another idea persisted in her mind. The one you hold in your hands, Becca and Jared’s story. Before she knew it, what started as a single novel turned into a trilogy… but wait, there’s more. She now has four stories drafted and several other ideas for the characters of Hazel Hill, North Carolina.

Liz’s heart longs to live in North Carolina, where she was born, and that is why she set her stories there. But, for now, she and her husband live in Northern Illinois where she homeschools their three daughters.
