Sweetly, Deeply, Absolutely (Sweet Love) Page 18

by Kira Archer

“Jared, this all sounds wonderful. But…is it what you really want?”

“Have you ever known me to do anything I didn’t want?”

“Well, I don’t know you all that well.”

He laughed and leaned closer. “That is something I would very much like to remedy.”

Hope and excitement burned through her. But so did a lot of fear. What would happen if his business failed? Or he got bored? Or she got bored? So many things were changing and neither one of them was great at any of that. What if…

“Stop thinking so hard,” he said, drawing a finger across her furrowed brow. “To answer your question, yes, it is what I really want. I’ve always wanted to expand my freelance business into something larger. I even tried it once, back in college. But I made some stupid mistakes and ended up with nothing, and I was too afraid to go for it again. Afraid I’d screw up again, only worse. So I did the bare minimum, found my comfort zone, and stayed there. And then you came along and turned everything upside down. And I wasn’t happy with comfortable anymore. So I started a new business that I can run from anywhere in the world and moved into a tiny apartment in Paris where I can spend my days working on projects I can be proud of and studying art and hopefully, spend my nights making love to the most amazing woman on the planet.”

Jenny’s heart skipped and her stomach flipped, the emotions running through her too much to contain.

“I have everything I ever wanted, Jen. Except you. And getting to know you better was never going to happen with an ocean between us. Moving to Paris to be with you is not the worst sacrifice a guy could make. I mean seriously”—he gestured at the gorgeous city laid out before them—“there could be worse fates.” He turned to her and took her hand. “Like not having you by my side.”

Yup. That one did it. She smiled slowly and closed the distance between them. He brushed his lips across hers, and she pulled back long enough to whisper, “Well then, I guess the least I could do is save you from a worse fate,” before sinking into his kiss.

  Acknowledgments

First of all, a huge shout-out and massive thanks to my incredible editor Erin Molta. You get me so well, always have my back even when I just can’t stop nodding and grinning and eyeballing everything. And even with all my craziness you always know exactly what to do to whip these books into shape. I don’t know what I’d do without you!

Another huge thanks to Debbie Suzuki—you work so tirelessly to help get these books out into the world. It is such a comfort to know you and your amazing team are there cheering me and my books on. The entire team at Entangled has my undying love. I’ve never worked with more incredible people and it is truly a privilege to work with each and every one of you.

Sarah Ballance, my dear, dear, wacky, crazy, #creepytwin—I will never grow to love spiders so don’t even go there. Jalapenos…maybe. If I numb my tongue first. I like mild salsa, does that count? Also, you are not allowed to go on vacation anymore. I get nothing done without you to sprint with! Just a thought, but how will we know if people figure out we are communicating this way? I’m going to die laughing if someone ever points it out.

To my sweet kids, I know I’m a crazy lady most of the time but really, life would be so boring any other way. You need something to tell your therapist when you get older. I just want to make sure you’ve got plenty to say when you write your own books! As goofy as I get, don’t ever forget that you are my whole world and I love you more than I’ll ever be able to say. Thanks for putting up with me. And picking up your clothes from the bathroom floor. That was really driving me nuts.

And to my ever-supportive husband, I can’t promise to stop snoring when I get really tired because I’m pretty sure the late nights will always be a thing. But I can promise not to give you a hard time when you try to out-snore me. Thank you for everything you do to support me in this crazy dream of mine. You are my rock, and I don’t know what I’d do without you.

  About the Author

Kira Archer resides in Pennsylvania with her husband, two kiddos, and far too many animals in the house. She tends to laugh at inappropriate moments and break all the rules she gives her kids (but only when they aren’t looking), and would rather be reading a book than doing almost anything else. She has odd, eclectic tastes in just about everything and often lets her imagination run away with her. She loves her romances a little playful, a lot sexy, and always with a happily ever after.
