Defender's Blood The Return (An Urban Fantasy) Page 11

When they were done Zach took Thadius' hand in his - “I apologise Thadius – I forgot just how strong you are. Seeing you for decades behind a desk – well I thought you had gone soft! I now see I was very wrong – Daniel doesn't know what he's in for!” Zach finished and Alex had joined them - “Wow – Thadius – that was impressive!” she said. Thadius looked a little embarrassed - “Uhm yes well – I'm not THAT old – and as I said my wolf is much stronger – I want Daniel to suffer for what he did and I definitely want to send a message to others.” he said and both Alex and Zach could only agree.

Something like this would not happen in the human world – they would probably think it barbaric. However, this was not a world of humans – it was supernatural beings much stronger than humans. It was their job to protect the humans – any way possible – if this fight, duel, whatever anyone wanted to call it – if it stopped even one human from getting it hurt – well it was worth it

It's not as if fights between wolves were rare – they happened all the time – for position in a pack for instance. Just that only in the most dire circumstances was the fight to the death. It was only two days until the fight and Alex was almost certain that Thadius would win – Daniel really didn't stand a chance!

Alex asked Thadius about something that was on her mind - “How's Kate? What's going to happen to her?” she asked. Thadius frowned - “Well she had been tortured – long term – and she has professed a wish to die so she is on suicide watch. To be honest the Council is split on what to do with her. Half want her punished – she did help in the abductions – half want her to get some help and be reintegrated to our society. I must admit I'm torn – for the moment she is in the care of the Clinic – twenty four hour watch. After that I don't know.” he told them – his shoulders had slumped, showing the burden he carried.

Alex touched his arm - “Thadius I'm sure the right decision will be made – I feel the same way – part of me feels sorry for her – the other part wants her to suffer. I guess the decision will be hard for everyone involved.” she said with compassion and Thadius placed his huge hand over hers - “Thank you Alex – that's a decision for the future – Daniel is more imminent and I have no sympathy for him at all. I'm looking forward to the fight!” he said with a lot more conviction.

Zach grasped Alex's free hand - “Come on – we've a dinner to make.” he said and Alex laughed - “We? Don't you mean you? Or do you want our children running screaming from the house?” she joked. Thadius laughed loudly - “Yes Zach – you don't want Alex in the kitchen – Tatiana has told me how she cooks!” he said and Alex frowned.

“Ok guys – enough – I know I'm not a good cook – but I don't need to be – Zach more than makes up for my shortfall in that area!” she moaned and then moved closer to Zach – he placed an arm around her shoulders and pulled her tiny frame to his. Thadius started walking back to his car and they followed. At the car park the large wolf said goodbye and went back to work – moaning about the paperwork, as always!

Zach and Alex drove home and when they got in Zach grabbed Alex from behind – his arms encircling her waist – one hand moving to cup a breast. “Zach! We've got to get ready.” she exclaimed and he only bent his head to her neck – kissing and lapping it with passion. “Oh I'm sure we have some time for play.” he spoke, his voice husky, the one that affected Alex in a most primal manner.

She moved her hips backward and felt his arousal – pressing onto the small of her back. He started to undress her there in the hall and Alex let him – his touch sending small electrical currents coursing through her body. She moaned and moved her head backwards – twisting it to the side so that Zach's lips could meet hers.

Their kiss was full of passion – Zach devouring her mouth – and then she realised she was standing in only her bra and knickers! How did he always manage to do that so quickly, she thought! There was a few seconds where Zach pulled away – she whimpered at the loss – but then he was back behind her and she realised he had undressed, fully!

His arousal was now touching her skin and she was already panting. His hand reached forward and down – underneath her knickers – and cupped her – rubbing his thumb over her very sensitive spot! She mewled deep in her throat and Zach growled – that sound always making him close to losing control.

He moved her – tiny steps with him closely attached to her back – into the living room and towards a sofa. However, instead of laying her down as she had thought he was going to do he placed her behind the sofa and bent her over the back. One hand on the small of her back holding her in place whilst the other removed her underwear – completely ripping her panties from her! “Open” he whispered and she moved her legs - “Wider” he said and she complied – her breathing coming quicker.

Still keeping a hand on her back – not allowing her to move he positioned himself between her legs – he bent her over further. Her feet left the floor and her bum went up higher – then his erection was pressing between her folds. She sighed – and tried to move back onto him – he only tightened his hold and kept her in place. “Zach – please!” she whined and he chuckled - “Ok my mate.” he said and entered her – hard.

Alex let out a small squeal – not expecting him to take her as hard! The squeal died on her lips as he started moving – every thrust in pushing her body against the sofa – her nub rubbing on the top each time. The feeling was exquisite and she mewled again – Zach grunted - “Stop that wench – you know what it does to me!” he complained and Alex couldn't answer – words would not form and she let herself go – letting the feelings overwhelm her.

Zach looked down – watching himself entering her from behind and the sight nearly made him explode! He loved watching him going into her body – and the sight of her round backside was so appealing! He moved a hand to rub it and then moved a finger to caress around her tight hole there. The reaction from Alex was instant and she mewled louder and louder.

Zach continued to caress the area as he pumped harder – Alex's increasing excitement was in his mind – she let him in to feel exactly what she was feeling! She was so aroused that it inflamed Zach – this melding of their thoughts at such an intimate moment always nearly made him lose his mind!

The feelings were so intense that their whole bodies became ablaze with sensations. He pressed his finger slightly and increased the pressure while still circling her and she climaxed hard – her sheath clenching him tightly. His release was immediate and he couldn't catch a breath as he let out a very loud animalistic grunt!

He slowed his movements – and bent low over his mate's back – kissing the back of her neck - “God Alexina – I love you so much sometimes it hurts!” he gasped and she mumbled in reply – nothing coherent as she still couldn't put a sentence together.

They stayed like that for a few minutes – coming down from their release. Finally Alex wiggled her behind - “Zach – come on - the kids will be here soon – we don't want to scar them – walking in and finding us like this!” she laughed. Zach kissed her once more and then moved upwards and backwards, disentangling them and helped her to her feet. “We've got time for a quick shower!” Zach said – with 'that' smile and Alex giggled and ran for the bedroom – collecting her clothes from the floor as she went.

They were 'showered' and dressed and Zach was starting to prepare the steaks when Conall and Lexi arrived – not at the front door but just appearing in the living room! “Shit! You need to stop that!” Alex exclaimed – jumping in fright.

Conall had a shy smile on his face while Lexi was laughing – Conall was definitely the quieter of the two, Alex thought. “Sorry mum – but it's just the way we're used to getting around.” Lexi said. “Well that may be but at least either give us some kind of warning or arrive at the front door like everyone else. I nearly had a heart attack!” Alex admonished.

Conall moved towards the kitchen - “Mmm something smells good!” he said and walked over to Zach. He stood watchi
ng his father cook and realised he and his sister would probably have to learn to do that.

“Dad – could you teach me and Lexi how to cook – we've never done it and we both like our food too much not to learn.” Conall asked and Zach gave a very large smile - “Of course – I love cooking and would love to show you.” Zach said, glad there was at least one thing that Michael couldn't teach them!

“Yes Dad – we could make it a weekly thing – you show us something new each week?” Lexi put in and he nodded - “Whatever you want – do you know the basics – for breakfast?” Zach asked. Both shook their heads - “Ok so before you go tonight I'll take you through some stuff and you can get some groceries tomorrow. The diner is good but you can't eat there all the time.” Zach told them.

The twins looked thoughtful - “So how do we pay for groceries?” Conall asked. Alex answered - “That's ok for the moment – just ask them to put them on our account. Anything you need from any of the shops – we'll take care of it.” she advised. Lexi frowned - “Well ok but we don't want to be doing that for long – we'll need to get some part time work – fit it around our hunting. We need to earn our own money.” the girl said and Alex realised she was very independent!

“We can talk about that later – come, sit down and we can chat.” Alex said. The conversation flowed freely – it was very strange – it was as if they had known them for ever instead of a few days! Once dinner was in front of them Zach opened a bottle of Zinfandel, Alex's favourite, and offered the kids a drink. “Uhm – we don't drink dad – we never know when we'll need to hunt and alcohol only slows us down – or so Michael tells us.” Conall said.

Alex frowned – agreeing and disagreeing at the same time! “Have you ever had a drink?” Zach asked and both shook their heads. “Well I don't think half a glass of wine is going to cause too much trouble.” their father said and poured a little into their glasses.

Lexi tried first – taking a small sip – and she smiled - “Mm that's nice.” she said and Conall lifted his glass – after he sipped it he made a face – one that told everyone he didn't like it! “Jeez Lex how can you say that's nice?! It's horrid.” he said and Alex and Zach laughed. The next second Michael was in the room – reaching and taking the glass from Lexi's hand.

“Just what do you think you're doing?” the Angel asked – his tone was severe and Lexi cringed.

Seeing her daughter react like that made Alex angry - “Just you wait a goddamn minute Angel! She was only tasting it – there's not even half a glass in that!” she shouted and Michael looked at her – his look was one of amusement - “Still the spitfire I see Alex. Regardless – the twins have not to drink – it affects their system differently to yours or anyone else's – alcohol can impair their abilities – very quickly and with not a lot. That's the reason they have not to touch it!” he said – emphasising each word.

Alex wouldn't concede - “If they're going to be on earth then alcohol is all around – would it not be better for them to learn how to drink in moderation? Surely they can't be on call twenty four hours of every bloody day!” she fired back.

Michael's expression had hardened - “That's exactly what they are – on duty every hour of every day – until all the Fallen Ones have been dealt with! They cannot lapse for even a moment – chances to catch them are rare indeed – we cannot waste even one. So, Alex, no they cannot have ANY alcohol – at least until this hunt is over!” Michael spat out the last sentence with vehemence and Alex swallowed – knowing how powerful this being was but still angry!

Lexi placed a hand on Michael's chest - “Calm down Michael – you'll burst a blood vessel – if you have any that is!” she tried to laugh – to lessen the tension, but it stuck in her throat! She had seen Michael angry – she had seen what he could do with a wave of his hand. She did not want that anger focussed on her mother!

“I'm sorry, ok? I should've known better – we promise we won't taste any again – isn't that right Conall?” Lexi said and Conall nodded – looking down at his plate.

As soon as Lexi's hand touched Michael he relaxed – both Zach and Alex saw it – and he smiled down at their daughter. “I just worry about you little angel – you know that.” he spoke softly and the endearment he used wasn't lost on her parents!

Zach spoke next - “So Michael – we would like some more information on these Fallen – are you going to give it to us or will we have to wait til you're gone and ask the kids?” he asked and Michael sighed. “Ok – what do you want to know?” the Angel replied.

The next couple of hours went by – they ate dinner which the kids loved – and talked. Mostly Michael answering questions put to him by Zach and Alex. The information he gave was quite alarming and Alex felt herself worry yet again for her children.

Lexi spoke up - “Mum – you need to stop worrying. We can handle this.” she answered her mother's unspoken doubts! Zach tried a recap - “So these Fallen – they aren't here on earth all the time? They only come for small amounts of time – to either 'play' as you so politely put it Michael – or to cause havoc, which they seem to enjoy? The rest of the time they are in another 'realm' and can't be found whilst there? When they come here though Lexi and Conall can sense them – hone in on them and go hunt them? Is that about right?” Zach concluded.

Michael's face was deadpan – no emotion showing at all - “Yes Zach that's about right. Myself and two of my brothers are attuned to the twins – when they sense a Fallen they move immediately and take them on – either incapacitating them for return to our Father for punishment or indeed destroy them. Both Conall and Lexi have that capacity – tho we would prefer return for punishment sometimes the events take a turn in a direction that makes it impossible. Then the twins can end them. Myself and the others watch over the twins – only once have we had to intervene and that was right at the beginning of them starting to hunt. They have never made a mistake since then. They are very adept at what they do.” Michael finished with a proud look on his face as he looked at both Conall and Lexi.

Zach wasn't happy with any of this but he didn't think he could change it either – that didn't sit well with him at all.

Alex had a question - “So these Fallen – do they look like you?” she asked Michael. He shook his head - “No Alex – as they have fallen from grace their wings are now a dirty greyish colour – and get darker the longer they are away from our Father. If they don't return their wings will go entirely and that's when they will probably move to here on a more permanent basis, as they will be able to walk among humans – almost undetectable. We must get them before that happens – they will still have powers that far outweigh anything else on earth – but not as strong as a pure Angel. But we won't be able to find them – only Lexi and Conall can do that. Their destiny is to stop them, stop the earth from the chaos they would bring – somewhat like your destiny was Alex.” Michael said, referring to Alex's blood closing the gates of Hell.

Alex thought back to that time – when Zach had found her in Scotland – saving her life, more than once! She smiled – and looked over at her mate – he had her thoughts in his mind and he smiled back too.

His thoughts of the first time he had kissed her! Conall coughed – loudly - “Uhm remember we can hear your thoughts – not something we need to know!” he said and Lexi was smirking! She reached over and punched her dad in the arm - “For an ancient and deadly vampire you're quite the romantic aren't you?” she teased.

Zach was still looking at his mate - “Only when it comes to your mother! The rest of the time I'm still the ancient and deadly vampire – and don't you two forget it!” he said jokingly. Alex moved from her seat and went into his arms – resting her head on his chest, her most loved place to be.

They realised that they had all the info they were going to get and Michael just upped and left – no goodbye or anything! “He does that all the time – it's soooo annoying!” Lexi moaned and Alex laughed - “I know!! He can be really irritating!

“Well I think we'll get back – I'm full and a little tired.” Conall said and got up. He moved to Alex and gave her a quick hug and said 'bye' to Zach and moved – disappearing. Lexi agreed - “Me too.” and also gave her mother a hug but also her father before saying 'bye' and following Conall.

Alex frowned - “That is just so not fair!” she pouted and Zach was confused - “Well you can move and so can the kids – I'm the only one in the family that can't!” she whined and Zach was amused - “Oh honey – never mind – you can kick some ass tho – that's gotta count?” he joked and she reached up and pulled his hair!

“Ouch! What was that for?” he said and she smirked - “For making fun of me vampire!” she retorted. “Me? Make fun of you? Never? Didn't happen!” he came back with and both started to laugh. “Ok let's get the kitchen tidied and then we can have an early night!” Alex said and both moved very fast! In minutes the kitchen was clear and clean – and Zach chased his mate all the way to their bed!

  Chapter 11

As Alex and Zach entered their office in the morning Alex held a very large Mickey Mouse talking toy – they had picked it up on a mission to Florida for Tatya. With everything that had happened over the past few days they had forgotten about it until this morning. Alex was planning on nipping over the Irina's for a coffee and a chat later in the morning, so she placed it on her desk – so she wouldn't forget it, again!

Zach walked through to the other office to check with Dmitri if anything was urgent and needed his attention. As he entered he could feel the tension in the room? What now, he thought.

Alex and he had thought the situation between Donna and Dmitri had been settled. Obviously not going by the way both were studiously ignoring one another. “Morning.” Zach said to them both. Donna gave a small smile and said “Morning – I'm just going through the backlog. Is Alex in? I need a word.” and Zach nodded - “Yes – go on through.” he said and when she got up and left the room he closed the door.
