“He’s lucky to be alive,” Clara said.

“Tell me about it. Had I not arrived when I did my brother would surely be dead.”

“I don’t think he deserves such kindness, your grace.”

“Maybe not, Clara, but he is still my brother.”

Clara went to the kitchen where she was brewing a pot of tea. She poured the tea into a cup and went back to Piña. “Here.” She said. “You look like you can use some tea.”

Piña grabbed the cup. “Thank you, Clara.”

  “My pleasure.”

Piña took a sip of the tea. It tasted like green tea. Then her vision became a blur. Piña rose to her feet to see Clara smiling. “What did…what did you…” Piña collapsed to the ground unconscious.

Clara took out a dagger she had tucked away inside her belt and jammed it Zeke’s heart. He jerked awake only to gag on his own blood and as filled his lungs. Clara dragged his body outside and deep into the woods. The wolves will have a feast tonight, she thought.

She returned back to the cabin and carried Piña to the bed. She stripped off all her armor——boots included. Once that was done, Clara took off all her clothing and tossed it to the ground. She pressed her body against Piña’s. She brushed back her hair and kissed her passionately on the lips.

“You aren’t a princess.” She whispered in Piña ear. “My true name is Kristy Clara Lakefield. You are an only child. Your mother and father have been dead for ten years after a barbarian raid. You and I have been best friends since childhood. And as adult we became so much more. We became lovers. You know my deepest secret. You know that I am a witch and you accept me for it. You and I are both on a mission.”

Piña groaned in her sleep. “What mission?” she asked.

“All you need to know is that Vincent Valentine is the key. And we must do everything in our power to help him open the door. Now sleep. Tomorrow is a new day.”
