  About the Author

This is the tenth volume in Mark Zuehlke’s Canadian Battle Series—the most extensive published account of the battle experiences of Canada’s Army in World War II. The series is also the most exhaustive recounting of the battles and campaigns fought by any nation during that war to have been written by a single author. These best-selling books continue to confirm Zuehlke’s reputation as the nation’s leading popular military historian. In 2006, Holding Juno: Canada’s Heroic Defence of the D-Day Beaches won the City of Victoria Butler Book Prize.

In 2011, Zuehlke began adapting stories told in the Canadian Battle Series to appeal to reluctant readers and those wanting a quick and easily digestible account. His Rapid Reads titles to date are Ortona Street Fight and Assault on Juno.

He has written four other historical works, including For Honour’s Sake: The War of 1812 and the Brokering of an Uneasy Peace, which won the 2007 Canadian Author’s Association Lela Common Award for Canadian History. Also a novelist, he is the author of the popular Elias McCann series. The first in the series, Hands Like Clouds, won the 2000 Crime Writers of Canada Arthur Ellis Award for Best First Novel.
