Minor Opposition Page 14

by Walters, Janet Lane;

  “I love you,” she said.

  Alex let Johnny slide to the ground. He cupped her face. “I don’t know why you do. I’ve been blind and deaf. Will you marry me? This time, I’m asking because I love you.”

  “Yes, oh yes.” Her tears began again.

  “Hurrah,” Johnny yelled. “I’m telling Mrs. Rodgers Daddy’s getting an old wife and I want her.”

  Alex groaned.

  “What’s wrong?” Laurel asked.

  “I’m sure Megan’s at the house. She’ll gloat.”

  “We could go to my place.”

  He tugged her closer. “Not a good idea. She’d follow us.”

  “The guest suite. The bathing pool.”

  He shook his head. “Too tempting.” His mouth closed over hers and his tongue traced her lips.

  Laurel surrendered to a kiss that promised forever. Her heart felt full.

  Alex broke the kiss. “When?”

  “When what?”

  “A wedding date. How soon can you take time off for a honeymoon?”

  She laughed. “I can always take a leave without pay.” Her expression sobered. “Will my money be a problem?”

  He sucked in a breath. “It’s you I want. It’s you I need. It’s you I love.” His lips touched hers. She opened her mouth and deepened the kiss. Love, home, a family. He’d given them to her.

  “I love you.” Their voices became one.
