“I am not here to talk to you bitch.” Khatara spoke, now bending down to get right into the Alpha’s face. “I am here to challenge you. You are old and not as quick as you once were. You have no more than five summers left in you. The pack should be led by the strong, me. You either fight me or step down.”
“Clear this place.” The alpha spoke looking around at the other werewolves.
The pack started moving the tables and chairs outside until the eatery was cleared. The pack stood around the walls of the eatery, making a ring in the center. Khatara and the Alpha entered the ring.
“You whelp”, the alpha spoke. “I will teach you a lesson you or your mother are unlikely to forget.” The alpha then changed into her Wolf form. She was a large white wolf whose paws were as big as human feet. Her chest was broad and her muscles were well defined. While she had blood on her muzzle from Khatara’s attack, she also has the telltale signs of a white and yellowish muzzle, a sign that she was on the downside of her years.
Khatara changed and was a taller wolf. Her chest was not as stout but she was muscular nonetheless. Khatara’s coat was brown and black, and she had a longer bushy tail, which gave her superior balance among the wolves. Khatara had never fought in this form before, but she knew she had speed on her side.
As soon as the transformation was complete, the alpha charged. Khatara kept on the outside snapping and snarling as the huge Alpha got closer. Three times Khatara had sustained injuries as the Alpha was not scared of the younger wolf and constantly fought through her attacks. Khatara was hurt from the attacks, but she still had fight in her. Khatara knew she had to change her strategy though, as her speed was not as great of an asset as she previously thought. Khatara left her paw slightly out if front of her, hoping the older wolf would take the bait.
The older wolf clamped down on Khatara's paw. Khatara could feel her bones breaking as the Alpha chomped down. Rather than pull her paw away, Khatara lowered it to the ground. The Alpha hung on as Khatara fought through the pain. Khatara tried to make herself tall as she lunged towards the back of the alpha’s neck. Khatara bit down with all her might, shaking her head wildly as she kept her grip. The alpha let go instantly and attempted to roll and shake the younger wolf off. Khatara held on, her significant weight weighing on the alpha. The alpha finally admitted defeat by lying down on her belly, her face between her paws.
Khatara did not let go, instead she lifted the wolf off the ground, her pride swelling at the accomplishment. Khatara shook the wolf until she moved no more. The disposed alpha would no longer be a problem for anyone anymore. Khatara changed back into her human form, her hand still mangled from the battle.
“Nezmeenah you are next” Khatara spoke almost yelling. “Obey your new Alpha or you shall suffer the wrath of the entire pack”
Nezmeenah looked distressed to Khatara. She had just seen her mother taken from her and her confidence now slipped. Jazmeenah changed into wolf form and met Khatara who just changed back in the circle.
Nezmeenah was a larger than average wolf with markings similar to her mother’s. Nezmeenah lacked her mother’s muscle, and it was evident that Khatara was far larger and muscular. The fight was over before it began. Nezmeenah was on her back about to get her throat ripped out when Khatara stopped fighting and changed back to her human form.
“You have a day to leave this school and join one of your sisters.” Khatara spoke not looking back. “If you are still here at this time tomorrow I will finish this, and you can join your mother.”
Khatara smiled as she relived this memory of her ascension, proud that her mother finally has the chance to live her last days in peace, free from all who would attack her. Khatara was lost in her thoughts that she could not hear Kara talking to her.
“Earth to Khatara, Earth to Khatara, come in Khatara!”
“I was lost in thought, what’s going on?” Khatara replied.
“We are playing protect the president, we are getting put into teams now.” Kara spoke.
“Spread the word that wolves are not to attack each other, find larger prey instead.” Khatara spoke.
“Duh, I already did that O fearless leader” Kara said mockingly.
“Who is going to play the role of the president?”
“The new guy I saw you making googly eyes with, didn’t think we knew huh?” Kara said laughing.
“I will take what I can get.” Khatara replied. “The other wolves are anxious for me to begin mating but I would really rather wait until I at least reach 20.”
“20?” Kara said shocked, “You will be an old lady by then! No time like the present! You need to start now so I can throw myself at some poor boy. With my heritage who knows how long I’ll live. I only have 4 more summers until I’m twenty. That is ancient by Lycan standards! No time like the present I always say.”
“Control your hormones little one, there will be time for that.” Khatara said with a smile on her face. “It looks like we are playing the role of protector. Stay out of the way and don’t take chances. The vampires would love to seriously injure a werewolf and the wizards would also.”
“Can’t hit what you can’t catch!” Kara said then bounded off.
The game started quickly. Khatara instantly leapt into the fray, catching a Vampire who wasn’t paying attention across the back of the head with a satisfying kick. Khatara smiled at how easy the vampire went down. The vampires were strong Khatara knew, but they had their weaknesses. Like the fact their reflexes were not on par with that of the wolf; neither was their stamina. One good blow to the back of the head would make them fall like any other animal. Vampires only had superior strength and could only show off their speed in short distances. A vampire’s skin punctured just like a humans. Vampires only had to be tired out before they could be taken down easily.
Khatara looked back and caught site of Kara, who was busy wreaking havoc on anyone she could get her claws into. Kara had transformed and somehow was behind the other team’s lines, attacking them from the rear. Khatara looked for her next victim when those damn twins appeared in front of her.
Khatara was not worried about the wizard female Aimee, as her talents did not really lend to combat. Her sister Ivy though, she was a worthy adversary. Ivy could read minds, meaning she knew what moves Khatara was planning before used them. Khatara wisely went after Aimee first and the human wasn’t much of a fight and went down quickly to her blows. Khatara had taken a pretty good blow from Ivy though, I blow Khatara knew was coming but worth leveling the playing field to 1 on 1.
The blow struck Khatara right in the back of her head, which left her dizzy. Khatara struck out, but the human female was too quick and quickly spun out of range. No matter what Khatara did the wizard would always dance outside of her range, sometimes even attacking. The blows did not hurt Khatara much, now that she had her equilibrium, but she could not afford to fight this wizard long and open herself up to an attack from behind.
“Come on, aren’t you supposed to be like, the Alpha wolf little doggie?” Ivy teased as she danced outside of Khatara’s blows, quickly landing one herself and getting back out of range.
Khatara growled and contemplated shifting; it wouldn’t matter what the human could do then because she couldn’t read her mind while in Wolf form. Still, Khatara knew she needed to fight this fight, to improve her skill. Khatara did notice that Ivy never attacked first; instead she waited to counter attack.
“What’s wrong little doggie?” Ivy taunted, “You scared to attack me? You scared I will keep beating you up?”
Khatara threw herself into attacking Ivy. She knew the human was taunting her, but she also knew eventually this human would get tired before she was. As she was attacking she glanced over and saw the vampire Princess, Irina had just taken Kara down, then kicked her across the floor, even though they were on the same team.
“Don’t worry about her little doggie, you can join her on the floor soon enough” Ivy taunted.
“I wonder if
Cory or Nick will be as hard to chase down once I have them in my bed” Khatara replied, trying to distract the nimble wizard.
“Cory?” Ivy asked. “You have your sights on him too?”
The pause that Ivy took was more than enough time. Khatara threw a high kick that knocked the smug little wizard out cold. Khatara was now going to turn her attention towards the Vampire.
As Khatara neared her target, she saw Nick taking out anyone in his way. Khatara forgot about Irina and wanted to test her skill against Nick, when his henchman Dylan appeared in her way.
Khatara had fought Dylan plenty of times before, and therefore knew all of his moves. The human could change his skin to steel at will, making him a formidable opponent. Dylan could not move very fast while in this mode, due to all of the added weight. Khatara had found out Dylan was not strong either; he had the strength of a normal human his size. His blows hurt though, they were incased in steel. The worst part about fighting him though, was that he was hard to inflict damage upon. In fact, he was like fighting with a brick wall. Sure you could land a devastating blow that could shake him up a bit, but you most likely would break your hands in the attempt. The easiest way Khatara knew to beat him was to plain and simply pick him up and drop him on his head. It had stunned him enough once before that he took minutes to recover.
Khatara lunged to the right and high kicked Dylan in the shoulder. Khatara did not put much behind the blow; it was meant as more of a push than a knockout hit. She waited for Dylan turn towards her and she was ready. She leapt over Dylan and grabbed him from behind. Khatara raised Dylan above her head and was preparing to pile drive him into the ground when a familiar wave of electricity washed over her. Khatara dropped to the floor instantly and Dylan along with her. As Khatara was writhing on the ground of the park, she noticed inbetween spasms that Dylan was still, apparently her tactic worked, giving her a little measure of satisfaction during her defeat.
CHAPTER 10
IRINA
Irina was in her room preparing for gym class, a long day in front of her. Ever since her turning, she had been prepped and chosen as the ruler of the California Vampires, simply because of the bloodline she was descended from. Irina could trace her vampire heritage to Drac, the first recorded vampire in history. Being one of his descendants did have its privileges though, as she was stronger and faster than vampires much older than she was, and she would only get stronger as she aged. Irina did not have the incredible long life of the male vampires; since none have been known to die of old age. Irina did have the strength of the females of her species though, and could easily kill tens or perhaps hundreds of male vampires if it ever came down to that. Still, Irina was expected to live at least three times as long as a normal human lifetime, something female vampires rarely did. As Irina finished up with her hair, her second, Annova entered her room.
“The males are fed and are happy, although Josef’s mood has soured considerably; I think he will be ready to continue our breeding program in about a month.”
“Those boys can be a handful Annova.” Irina smiled and continued, “They will lead us out of this near extinction. Do not worry about Josef, if he will not do it willingly than he will perform unwillingly. He has the life of a king that any male of any species would admire. It is attitudes like his that makes me wonder how we have survived so long.”
“I don’t get it either, he won’t even bite anyone!” Annova said shaking her head. “I will go make sure the others are ready. I have already put guards around the male’s lair. I will see you outside”.
Irina thought about the troubles they had maintaining numbers as Annova walked away. A vampire could be made two ways, either born or bitten. Only females could become vampires from the bite, and for the most part only in the early years right after puberty, with Cranberry being the exception. The problem with that is only the male vampires can deliver the bite. Male vampires though come into the world the old fashioned way, by a female Vampire giving birth. The huge problem with that is male vampires rarely show any sexual interest in female vampires. The problem with both is that their continued survival always depended on the males, something she has changed, although heavy handedly. Males did not like making female vampires from the bite, as they claimed the act left them slightly ill from the contact .While Irina knew this to be true, Irina also thought males did not like making female vampires because they couldn’t control them like they once did. A male vampire could control any of vampires he changed, as long as he is not away from them longer than ten days. Any while longer, the females system would begin to expel the males toxin and make anti bodies against it. After the Waco incident killed many of the males, female Vampires started thinking for themselves, as large numbers of makers were gone. It was then females came to power. The reason the males didn’t want to make vampires the old fashioned way was a bit more biological.
The immunity that female vampires gain from expelling the toxin also wreaked havoc with the males system. Male vampires did not react as violently as humans did when coming in contact with their body fluids, but the males were still laid up days afterwards with their movements noticeably slowed. It is because of this the male vampires generally preferred the company of other males. Irina did not care about their discomfort of course, since she was tasked by Drac himself to keep their numbers up. Irina had tried different methods of insemination, but they had all proven ineffective. The DNA they needed could not survive outside the body. Irina did the only thing she could have done since she took power; she extracted it forcefully no matter stupid Josef’s complaints. She only wished males were fertile more than twice a year. Josef was a big part of the future of their survival but he wanted to be difficult, based on the fact that he felt like a prisoner because he wasn’t allowed to leave the compound. Inside the compound his every desire was granted. Human males were even snuck into the compound for his pleasure. It made Irina smile though that the young males were coming along happily. They were segregated from Josef and were taught about their role early, and they seemed proud by the fact they could contribute. They were still at least three years off from puberty though. One would remain here and the other would be sent to the east coast, to help out the school there. They were what that the vampires needed; Irina only could wish that Delores Cranberry’s unborn would be as agreeable.
Delores Cranberry also weighed on Irina’s mind, at least the conversation they had together had. Due to Delores job as a detective, she had been the only one of the pack to come and go to the surface. Delores had come to her crying; saying something about ruining some human’s life. Why Delores cared suddenly about human life was beyond Irina, she just figured it had something to do with being pregnant. Delores told her of the attack on the young human. She was adamant that he had all types of scrapes and bruises during her attack, but did not succumb to the toxins in her fluids. Irina had written it off that the boy was lucky, but the next part of the conversation intrigued her. Delores was positive after she began to feed off of the human he had fought back until she rendered him unconscious. Only a vampire could have had the power to mount some type of defense after the bite of a female Vampire. But things in Delores’s story made no sense.
All vampires male or female were extremely pale, it did not matter what race they were previously, their body would stop making melanin and they would be highly susceptible to the sun. Male vampires were especially vunerable, since they did not have any hair anywhere on their bodies. The human Delores described though was as dark as night. Another thing was his features.
Male vampires are normally taken for being disfigured humans; well they were until that idiot Nesferatu made that stupid movie. Males had extremely long fingers when compared to humans, but Delores had been insistent that this human had normal hands. Male Vampires had elongated heads by human beauty standards, almost cone shaped, which this human also did not have. This human did not even have long upper incisors, which every male vampire had. This human was most definitely n
ot a vampire, yet Irina wondered if he was some type of wizard that was immune to their toxin. If he was, then he may be a viable experiment, to even see if half vampires could be made.
Irina contemplated this until the hour got late and she had to leave for class. The vampires really had no reason to go to class, but Irina made it a requirement. She wanted the exact same training the human wizards had, especially since those filthy hairy mutts trained alongside of them. Irina stepped outside and saw her vampires waiting for her. Looking at their faces they were all young, not yet seeing their 20th year. The only female vampire that looked older than 30 at the school was Delores, and she was moved to a vampire stronghold deep inside a bunker in Nevada. Her move was a precaution, the Nevada coven felt safer with her being with them, because of her value. The human wizard Sonar had stepped up his attacks and it was well known he wanted to eliminate this school, since the alpha team foiled the majority of his plans.
Irina motioned for the vampires to start moving and they made their way to the park. The human Fairplay had announced they would play protect the president, with the new arrival holding the titular role. As they began separating into different teams, Irina called Annova over.
“Make sure you keep your eyes on these damn mutts,” Irina spoke, her voice dripping with disgust. “Tell our sisters do not attack each other and make sure everyone else feels our power. Do not kill anyone, but make sure to leave a few broken bones.”
“You worry too much, you know that Irina?” Annova spoke.
“It is my job to worry,” Irina spoke, her tone still serious “If you were in charge of California, you would worry too. The game started and to Irina’s dismay, she was on the same team as the Alpha Werewolf. Irina’s real plan though was to see if the human really was immune to her toxins. Irina decided to make her move.
