  Sex on the Beach

Rebecca Lawrence is just a thesis away from getting her PhD, but she wants an adventure before she settles down in academia. The former gymnast impulsively accepts a job at a private BDSM resort working as a physical trainer and yoga instructor. She’s assigned to work under the brothers Mal and Mike Reynolds who have also been tasked with teaching her about BDSM, a job they take very seriously.

The men offer her all the adventure she could want, and she takes quickly to submission, looking forward to a year working under the hunky brothers, sometimes literally.

But there’s a serpent in paradise. During the pre-opening inspection, a university professor, whose advances she rejected previously, shows up on the island and starts hitting on her again. Can she count on the brothers to protect her, or is she the one that must do the protecting, as a bad report from Holtzman could cost all three of them their jobs.

Note: There is no sexual relationship or touching for titillation between or among siblings.

Genre: BDSM, Contemporary, Ménage a Trois/Quatre

  DEDICATION

While Libertine Island is fictional, St. Maarten is very real. I visited it for the first time this past spring and it was one of the most beautiful places I'd ever seen. And Maho beach with the airplanes overhead is definitely a real place as well, although anyone who has been there will realized that I played a bit with the geography for purposes of the story.

Rebecca Lawrence read the ad. Then she read it again and sighed. She had one more exam to write, and she should be studying. Instead, she was looking at the ad yet again. Going back to school full time after dumping her cheating ex had been the best and hardest decision she’d ever made, but now she was twenty-nine and one exam, two summer courses, and one thesis were all that were standing in the way of her PhD in French Literature. She’d spent every last minute for the last five years either working or studying, and now the end was in sight. She had eighteen months to finish her thesis. Her more immediate need was a job. Normally, someone in her position might be able to find a teaching assistant position at her grad school, but Professor Lester Holtzman had made that impossible when she rejected his advances, the dirty old man. Well, not that old, actually, maybe early forties. But definitely a jerk. He’d hit on a number of women and students but had always managed to do it without witnesses and keep it just low key enough that the woman wouldn’t bother calling either the cops or the university authorities. Until Rebecca. At the end of the day it was deemed a “he said, she said” situation.

Luckily he was starting a two-year sabbatical in September, so as long as she submitted her thesis before he got back, he couldn’t block her PhD, but since it didn’t start until the fall, he could make her life miserable until then, including blocking her from any teaching assistant positions since he had final hiring authority.

Since she couldn’t work at the university, she’d have to make money another way. She knew she’d be able to take on more shifts at the gym where she worked as a yoga instructor and personal trainer, but that wouldn’t give her enough money to pay the rent and eat, not in San Francisco. Currently, she was living in student subsidized housing, but that would end August 31st when her course did, and unsubsidized rents would mean she needed a roommate, even two or else she would have to think about moving to a cheaper location. After all, with modern technology, all of the research materials she needed were as close as her laptop. She just needed to be somewhere with a high-speed Internet connection.

She read the ad one more time, tucking her long red hair behind her ears as she read. The “open-minded and discreet” part seemed a bit strange, but if it was a luxury resort, maybe they were expecting the rich and f
amous and wanted staff that could be trusted not to tattle to the press. But they probably had hundreds, if not thousands, of responses because who wouldn’t want to spend a year in an island paradise and get paid for it. Rebecca sighed. It would be lovely to wait out the professor’s departure in an island paradise.

It wasn’t like she had much keeping her in San Francisco. This was where she went to school. It wasn’t home. Her social life was pretty limited. She hadn’t even had a proper date in a year, and her last serious relationship had ended badly when her boyfriend of two years, Theo, cheated on her and then accused her of being so boring in bed that he didn’t have a choice. Intellectually she understood that he was just trying to deflect the blame from him to her, but it still hurt her feelings and self-esteem, so she threw herself into work and school and generally avoided dating.

Sometimes she felt like she had gotten herself into a rut and didn’t know how to get herself out of it. She’d become everyone’s pal, but no one seemed to see her as a woman anymore except that letch Holtzman. Luckily she’d only taken a seminar from him that didn’t count toward her degree; otherwise she’d have been in big trouble. As it was, she needed money and maybe a change of scene. She’d worked her butt off for five years and the end was in sight. A year to work on her thesis in a place where she could just forget the past and the future and just have fun with no baggage holding her back sounded wonderful. And if that year was spent at an exclusive private island resort, well, that sounded like a little piece of heaven.

She’d never worked at any place like that before, but maybe her yoga and training skills would be useful. She could help the clients relax and maybe try something new. There wouldn’t be any harm in applying and dreaming. Today was April 25th, the last day to apply. Impulsively, she attached her résumé and hit the send button before she could change her mind and then went back to her studies.

  Three months later

  Dear Ms. Lawrence,

We have reviewed your resume and are very impressed by your qualifications and references. If you are still interested in pursuing this opportunity, we would like to meet with you in person for an interview. If you could review and return a signed copy of the attached confidentiality agreement, we will set up a meeting at your earliest convenience.

  Sincerely,

  G. Frederickson

Rebecca looked at her computer screen. It took her a moment to remember the ad that she’d responded to. It seemed like so long ago, but it had only been three months. Between summer school and trying to pick up as many shifts at the gym as possible, she’d almost forgotten about replying to that ad. She shook her head. She’d found herself daydreaming so much about the job for the first few weeks, but when she didn’t hear back, she figured that she hadn’t passed the first cut and had put it out of her mind.

But it seemed that they were interested in her. Maybe all the other applicants had either flunked the interview or decided a year in paradise wasn’t for them after all. Or maybe there was something wrong with the resort. The deadline to apply to the ad had been three months ago. If they were trying to staff a brand-new resort, wouldn’t they be done by now? The economy was tight, so they must have had a lot of applicants. So either they were being exceptionally picky or people didn’t want the jobs after they found out more at the interview.

She sighed. She had to vacate her apartment in the next thirty days, and she had no current job prospects beyond even more hours at the gym, which paid okay but wouldn’t cover her apartment once she lost her student subsidy. The thought of having to take in a roommate or two didn’t thrill her, but what choice did she have? PhD candidates in French Literature were not exactly hot commodities in the job market.

Maybe there was something wrong with this organization, or every other applicant had dropped dead or turned them down. Either way, she couldn’t afford to be too picky. She’d sign their confidentiality agreement, as weird as that request was, and go to their interview. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that. But if she was lucky, it could be the answer to all of her problems.

  Three days later

Rebecca was surprised to find herself in Seattle and that the interview was being held in the Whelan Corp building. Naturally it wasn’t in the Whelan offices themselves. The Whelan Corporation was big into high tech, but their building had other tenants.

The interview was held in a suite of offices on the seventh floor. She wasn’t sure what she’d been expecting. She’d never heard of CL Enterprises, but she should have expected that if they could afford flying interviewees to Seattle, they had to have some money behind them. She looked around at the rich wood paneling and marble floors. The name on the reception desk was G. Frederickson, but G. Frederickson was also not what she was expecting. G. Frederickson was blond and lovely and very much a man. He smiled charmingly at her as she entered five minutes before the appointed time, and she found herself smiling back.

“Miss Lawrence? I’m George Frederickson. I’m so happy you could make it. And so prompt, too.” George came around from the back of the desk to shake her hand and walk her over to the waiting area where there were some very comfortable-looking chairs set up.

“Ms. Edwards will be with you shortly. Can I get you something to drink? Some water, perhaps? Or maybe juice?”

She didn’t really want anything, but she found herself responding to the tone of his voice and didn’t want him to feel like she was rejecting his kindness. “Water would be wonderful.”

Rebecca watched as George happily retrieved her a bottle of water, thanked him for it, and then settled back to wait as he returned to his desk and started typing on the keyboard of his computer. She looked around noting the expensive furnishings and the lovely and seemingly original art on the walls. Either CL Enterprises was doing extremely well or someone had gone to a lot of effort to make it appear so.

She was lost in thought when the office door opened, and it was another very handsome blond man who strode out, closing the door behind him. At first she thought he was another job candidate, but then he blew a kiss back at the occupant of the office before closing the door behind him and waved to George before turning in Rebecca’s direction and giving her a very wicked wink then sauntered out the door.

A few minutes later the office door opened and a short brunette exited. She walked over to George and picked up a folder before turning to Rebecca.

“Hi, I’m Michelle Edwards. You must be Rebecca Lawrence.” She had a lovely smile and a firm handshake, which Rebecca returned before following Michelle back into the office. While it was clearly a temporary situation, it was also sumptuously decorated with a large mahogany desk with two leather guest chairs in front of it and a large, comfy-looking desk along one wall.

The desk had a laptop and the usual pens and papers. Michelle sat behind the desk, but Rebecca could still see the credenza behind her and the large frame photo with Michelle, the blond man who had just left her office, and Mac Whelan. It wasn’t a formally posed picture. It looked like a family portrait except for the fact that that there were three adults of similar age in the photo and they didn’t appear to be siblings. Dragging her eyes from the photo as she settled into the comfortable visitor’s chair, Rebecca waited for Michelle to speak. The other woman seemed to be looking for something, her eyes probing as she seemed to look inside of Michelle. Finally, after what seemed like a long time, but was probably no more than a minute, she spoke.

“First I’d like to say that you have excellent qualifications. We are particularly impressed by your gymnastics background and yoga experience. We’ve also gotten excellent feedback from some of your personal training clients. The reason we held off calling you in for an interview wasn’t what you can do, but you haven’t done. The resort is somewhat…how can I say it…specialized, in nature. We’ve done our first round of interviews with applicants with that specialized experience, but now we still have a few specific positions to b
e filled.”

“If I can ask, what do you mean by specialized?”

“Before I say, I have to ask you about the confidentiality agreement you signed. Do you fully understand the terms, and are you prepared to stand by them?”

“Yes to both questions. Although I thought it was very strange having to sign such a document, I am aware that I may not talk to anyone about this job or resort if I should be offered the job.”

“And you understand that you can’t even speak about the information I will be revealing to you in this interview?”

“I do.” Rebecca was puzzled, but she had signed the document and would abide by its terms.

“And you further understand that there are severe penalties if you breach the contract? “

  “Miss Edwards…”

  “Michelle.”

“Michelle, I am a woman of my word. I have signed the confidentiality agreement, and I won’t violate it. However, you are definitely giving me second thoughts.”

“Once I explain, I think you will understand my hesitation and the need for confidentiality. But as we have had a few people not take us seriously, I want to make absolutely sure that we have no misunderstanding up front, especially when we interview people who have no experience in our speciality. We would rather not invoke the penalty clauses, but you need to be aware that the contract isn’t just for show. We are extremely serious about privacy.
