Twin Surprise for the Single Doc Page 16

by Susanne Hampton

Just then, Claudia walked down the hallway of the beautiful Knightsbridge townhouse they had called home for almost five years and a smile spread over Patrick’s face. She looked as stunning as she had the day they married and he loved the thoughtful things she did, like buying his favourite chocolate-covered almond toffee and kissing him every day, the same way she had done the very first time. He placed the boys both down on their feet again and ruffled their hair with his hands before they ran off to play outside.

‘And how was your day, darling?’ she asked as she threw her arms around Patrick’s neck and kissed him.

‘Not too bad, but it just became much, much better,’ he told her as he kissed her tenderly and pulled her closer to him.

Claudia held her body against his, relishing the warmth of his embrace. Every morning she woke in his arms and fell a little more in love with the man who had made her believe in love again.

‘Did you deliver any gorgeous babies today?’

‘Two, actually,’ he replied with a proud grin. ‘And I’m inducing one of my IVF patients tomorrow morning. She’s overdue, so she’s been admitted to hospital this afternoon. The whole family is on standby and very excited.’

‘Well, my day was wonderful too. Harriet and Matteo have finished renovations on their kitchen and want us over for an early dinner on Saturday. Matteo built a sandpit for the twins so the four of them can get messy together.’

‘Sounds great. Matteo’s quite the handyman. Perhaps he can help me to build one for the boys.’

‘Oh, and Will called and he’s coming over on Sunday with Todd and your mother for a roast. Todd’s looking at universities for the year after next and wants your advice. His heart’s set on studying medicine like his uncle. Thinks he wants to specialise in OBGYN.’

‘Well, I’ll do my best to talk him out of that.’

‘You’ll do no such thing. Where would I be today if you hadn’t studied obstetrics?’ she argued playfully. ‘Just tell him to always have his medical bag handy when travelling in elevators and be prepared for anything if there’s a pregnant woman in there with him.’

  ‘Even falling in love.’

‘Yes, even falling in love,’ Claudia replied as she looked lovingly at her husband.

He pulled her close to him and kissed her again. ‘Did I ever tell you that I am the luckiest man in the world and that I couldn’t possibly love you any more than I do now?’

‘You haven’t told me today, Dr Spencer,’ she said, running her fingers lightly down his chest. ‘But you have mentioned it once or twice over the years.’

‘Once or twice?’ He laughed as his hands slipped down her spine and rested on the curve of her bottom. ‘Well, just so you know how much, I will show you, Mrs Spencer. Once the sun has set and our boys are in bed, of course.’

She kissed him again and, hand in hand, they walked down the hall, both hoping the sun would set early that night.

And every night for the rest of their lives.
