A year after Junior was born, we were blessed with Emily, a small bundle of joy who had daddy wrapped around her finger. She plays for her school’s basketball team and is an expert violin player. When she isn’t playing a game, she’s at a concert, showing off her talents.
When Bryce’s two-year contract with Wisconsin came to an end, he did exactly what he said he would do. He retired from football and spent all his time with the kids and I. And since he had so much extra time, a year after Emily was born, we welcomed Caleb into our world.
Caleb was born with a few challenges, but nothing he and a good father couldn’t overcome. Anywhere you saw Bryce you saw Caleb. And Caleb looked dead-on Bryce. Charming, beautiful eyes, and a smile that brought the girls running.
We thought about a fourth child but found three to be a big enough challenge.
Bryce had been right on when he talked about William having a great arm at five. William now plays for the University of Georgia as a starting quarterback. Rumor has it he will be drafted top five, making Bryce one proud uncle. Joan, William’s mother, signed him over to us when William turned six. She’d found opioids, and opioids helped her find jail.
Bryce stays busy with the kids while I run the Hurricanes, who have won two titles since I took ownership. May retired five years ago but stops by the office once a week to have lunch. She still complains about her husband but still loves him.
Jessica went back to school with the help of the Hurricanes education program. She earned a degree in sports management and is now the V.P. of Player Personnel. Jessica/ did follow through with her civil lawsuit against Tony Martin. She won the case before he was sent off to prison for other charges brought on by another woman.
Frank, unfortunately, passed away from diabetes a few years ago. His wife died a year before that. A picture of Frank hangs out in the hallway of the training facility. He was beloved by every person he came in contact with.
Gus didn’t make it two more years after Bryce left. The field was named after him. The local community named a street after him. Before he died, Gus asked us to help Clarissa, who had gotten herself mixed up in some rough times in Miami. We hired her back and gave her a job running the training facility. We didn’t feel comfortable having her in the office suites.
Finally, there’s Julie. She found a guy, and he’d been cutting her grass for almost a year. They started talking, and she found out that beneath the sweat and grime he was a wanna-be writer. She called him enlightening. He helped her see things in life she never realized was there. She supports him financially, and he continues to enlighten her in his creative worlds of fiction.
All in all, I would say things turned out okay.
I got my team, Bryce, and a family, including William.
