“You’re doing great, Miss Wright, and we will schedule you in for a glucose test and a few

other bits and bobs in the coming weeks. Enjoy your afternoon,” he stated, before slipping out the door and on to his next client. It was a busy clinic, but it had the best private doctors in town. I had the money and I intended to use it.

The nurse handed me my tights and a big baggy shirt I had worn to cover my ever-expanding waistline. “If you’ll get changed, I’ll escort you to the imaging room,” she smiled, closing the small curtain and allowing me to get dressed.

I dressed and followed her down a long corridor to the imaging room. It was dimly lit and there were monitors and unusual contraptions everywhere, used to check out all sort of things. The nurse pointed to the table. I followed her prompts and placed my bag down on a chair and went to lie on the table. From this view I could see the a monitor and at the moment it was blank, but I could feel the butterflies flutter in my stomach over the excitement of finally being able to see that sweet bundle growing inside of me.

“Will the baby’s father be joining us?” the nurse enquired. I shook my head “No.” The question made me sad but the joyous excitement of the ultrasound outweighed the sadness. Asher

should be here but he had made his choice and I had made mine. “I’ll be back with some gel and some papers for you to sign,” the nurse butted

into my thoughts. I smiled and relaxed while she left to do her thing.

I was busting for a pee, that’s one thing I hated about pregnancy, but I would learn to love it, only a few months to go. I could deal.

The door clicked and I gathered the nurse had returned. I sat up and locked eyes with a gorgeous man who knew how to rip out my heart with a simple smile. Like the one on his lips right now as he looked at me.

“You’re a hard woman to get a hold of,” Asher remarked, as he braved taking another step toward me.

I didn’t understand; why it was so hard to get in contact with me? It wasn’t like I had changed my number, though I had been screening my calls.

“Why are you here?” I heard myself saying before I could contain the words. I don’t think it mattered since my stupid heart was beating at a million miles an hour and fluttering butterflies were in full flight from the mere sight of him. The man still affected me and it had been one month.

“I’m here because you won’t take my calls, you won’t answer text messages. I know you told me not to call, but it’s a bit hard when you have my bouncing boy or girl growing inside of you,” he said. “Blake, I should have

married you when we were seventeen, not ten years on. From the day I met you, life has never

been the same. I can’t picture a life without you. I know I fucked up, and I will probably continue to fuck up. But the day I married you those nine, ten months ago, I said those vows, and I meant them. Till death do us part, and everything else in-between. I love you, Blake Crawford, and this baby is going to know how much its daddy loves it mommy,” he continued.

Fuck, I was a blubbering mess. I needed tissues; pregnancy hormones knew how to wreak havoc on a woman’s body.

“Can you forgive me, Blakey boo?” he asked fluttering those beautiful, lush eyelashes at me.

How could I ever resist? I had loved him since the day I met him. And at seventeen I had prepared myself to marry him. Ten years on and here we were married and a baby on the way. I sobbed. “I love you Asher,” I sniffled “But I swear you rip my heart out again and I’ll have your balls on display in our mantel for all to see,” I warned, chuckling.

He laughed, stepping forward and capturing my mouth with his. How on earth I survived the last month without kissing him was beyond me, but fucking hell that wicked tongue was working wonders.

“Excuse me,” the nurse chuckled, making Asher and I pull apart.

“Hi, I’m Asher Crawford, Blake’s husband,” Asher smiled, introducing himself.

“Wait, this is the Crawford baby? Mr. Asher Crawford? You fund our private little clinic and the one on West Street. Wow, congratulations.”

Trust Asher to fund a clinic such as this, I should have known. Crawford Enterprises was a family-based and very charitable corporation.

“Well, are you ready to see your baby?” the nursed beamed. Asher turned to me with a smile.

I didn’t know what would happen between now and death, but life would certainly continue to go on and there was at least one man willing to stick it out with me. One man who years ago, when I was just seventeen, promised me the world, and it appeared he was keeping his word… even if it took him ten years to finally get it right.

  Epilogue

  Blake

“I’m going to kill you, Asher,” I yelled pushing for dear life.

That glorious day he walked back into my life and declared he loved me also happened to be the day that I found out the fucker had given me twins. I was now in labor trying to give birth to not one but two of Asher Crawford’s children, and the asshole was so happy, so delirious, he didn’t even understand the effort it was going to take for me to push them out.

The head of the first baby was crowning and I knew that with a couple more pushes our first child would be born. It was eleven fifteen in the morning and I had gone in to labor about two hours prior. The nurses kept telling me that this was all good, I was doing well, but seriously, I couldn’t take anymore praise. They just needed to let me be and let me push.

“That’s it Blake; you’re doing so well... one last big push and we should have the head through,” the doctor ordered.

I held on to Asher’s hand and took a deep breath before pushing with everything I had.

“That it, Blake, come on, come on. And the baby is out. Congratulations you’re both parents to a little baby girl,” the doctor announced.

I let out a sob before I tried to take in a few gasps of air. Pushing sucked. Though I couldn’t feel much thanks to the killer pain meds they had given me, it still sucked.

“Blake, she’s so beautiful, just like her mother,” Asher whispered, gazing in awe at his first-born child.

“Well, we have an eager baby ready to follow her big sister,” a midwife announced.

It seemed baby number two was clearly in a rush to join its sister. We decided to keep the sex of the babies secret. Once we heard we were having twins, any thought of gender was out the window.

The urge to push was back again.

“Alright Blake, this baby will probably come out a lot easier than your first. I know you’re tired, but I still need you to push as best you can,” the doctor asked, a smile on her face.

Within three pushes another little girl joined the Crawford clan and excitement could be seen and heard all around. Asher was visibly in awe of his two little girls. He was going to have his hands full. It seemed Asher was destined to be surrounded by woman.

“I love you Blake, they are so beautiful… wow,” he smiled, looking down at me before pressing his lips to mine.
