Chapter 1
Gabriela
“What the fuck is he talking about, Gabriela? Is this shit true?” roared Neron.
Oh, shit!
“I’m not your baby mama,” I screeched to my ex-neighbor, Ryan, with my hands wailing into the air.
Ryan looked like I crushed his spirit. He was a cutie, though. Everyone compared him to the singer August Alsina but fuck him! He was ruining everything right now.
I looked like a mad woman with patches of hair missing and dried up blood mixed with sweat on my face. I used the back of my right hand to try to wipe my face, but all that did was add small pieces of dirt into the blood and sweat.
“What do you mean? We had been intimate the night before I moved. I deactivated my Facebook for a few months, reactivated my page a few days ago, and saw that you had a baby. I think she looks like me. I just want to be a part of my daughter’s life,” he said, looking around.
I shook my head and gave him an evil glare. When I heard the sound of Kimora’s voice, which sounded like nails to a chalkboard, I turned my attention to her. I hated this bitch.
“Fuck you, Kimora! You trifling bitch! Find your baby daddy, hoe,” Kimora shouted. She was thrashing around in Neron’s arms like a wild caged animal.
I glimpsed at Neron and the crazy thing about it was the look on his face. He smirked at me as if he was getting pleasure from the entire situation.
“Shut the fuck up, hoe! You snuck me! Every time we’ve fought, you’ve snuck me, you scary ass hoe,” I yelled out. I was trying to make myself feel better for getting my ass beat.
“Bitch, please! If you had hands, you would’ve given me a run for my money, but each time, I’ve laid your ass out!” Kimora shouted.
“Is this true?” Neron asked through gritted teeth, ignoring the back and forth between Kimora and I. “Could he be Magdalena’s father?”
“No, Neron. It can’t be true,” I said, looking down.
“It’s true! She’s a hoe, Neron! She broke into our apartment and fucked you, so there’s no telling who else she is or was fucking,” Kimora said.
She started to finally calm down since Neron had his arms wrapped around her, holding her wrists.
I cringed watching him be so close to her through all of this bullshit before me. I turned my attention back to Ryan when he began talking.
“What do you mean it can’t be true? I matched up the date Magdalena was born and I fit into the conception. I ain’t here to cause any trouble,” said Ryan.
Everyone could see the nervousness and confusion splattered across his face.
“I took the morning after pill after we fucked, Ryan. You’re not the father of my baby,” I screamed to the top of my lungs.
I was so angry that all of this drama was being thrown at me on one day. First, the fight with this chick, Kimora, then I found out that Renee and Paul fucked, and now, my ex-neighbor, who I had a one night stand with, popped up.
I wiped my chin and nose to clean some of the blood from my face. We all stood in the parking lot looking at one another. The sounds of the police sirens made onlookers run like ants to sugar, but Kimora, Neron and I weren’t fast enough to slip away.
Two police cars pulled up and I stood there, unsure of what was about to happen. I noticed Neron was secretly trying to ease Kimora’s body into her car, without anyone seeing. Nah, I wasn’t about to let that bitch slip away.
“She attacked me! She attacked me! Get her before she drives off!” I shrieked as I pointed towards Kimora.
Ryan stood beside me looking baffled.
I looked to my left and saw my brothers running towards me. I looked like something out of a horror movie. I had patches of hair missing, tears, sweat, and dried up blood on my face. Shock sat on their faces as they rushed towards me. School was out, so I knew that they would be home soon. The look on their faces, when they saw me, was pure panic and terror.
“Gaby?”
“What’s wrong, sis?”
“Who did this?”
“Are you okay?”
Questions were being thrown at me left and right from my little brothers, but I had to be strong in front of them.
“Boys, I’m okay. Just, please, go into the house and look after Magdalena,” I pleaded.
They seemed so uneasy and afraid, but Jose, being the oldest, grabbed our brothers’ hands and led them upstairs and into the apartment. I turned my attention back towards the two male officers and watched them quickly jog towards Neron and his bitch. They both shot me a look, but I smirked and wiggled my fingers in the air at Kimora and my baby daddy to signal “bye bye” because she was most definitely going to jail today. One officer talked to Neron and Kimora while the other motioned for me to step away from Ryan.
The young officer asked me, “What’s going on? We got a call about a disturbance. Who did this to you?”
I immediately put on the water works and began crying. I was sure this officer was going to buy my story because I definitely looked like the victim, plus Kimora put her hands on me first.
“Officer, my baby daddy was helping me change my tire and his other baby mama,” I said through tears while pointing in Kimora’s direction, “went crazy. She hopped out of her car and attacked me! This isn’t the first time that she’s done this either. She just won’t leave me alone. She’s afraid that our baby daddy wants to get back with me and she won’t let him go.”
“Well, we’ve spoken to some witnesses that corroborate your story about the other young lady being the aggressor, so she’s definitely going to take a trip downtown. Do y
ou need a medic?”
“Yes, I need a medic. My head is killing me and I feel dizzy,” I said truthfully.
That bitch worked me like a ragdoll, but it was okay. Least I would be sleeping in my own home tonight.
“Sit right here and I’ll call in a medic.”
I nodded my head in agreement, as Ryan sat next to me on the apartment stairwell. I had watched the officer call for a medic before he pulled the other officer to the side and they briefly spoke. I saw Kimora glance at me and shoot me an evil glare. I stared back at her, never breaking our eye contact. For a minute, we had a staring contest until Neron started whispering something in her ear. She finally looked away and stared at the concrete as Neron continued to talk. I think he knew his precious Kimora was going to jail. I smiled on the inside because I had to keep a straight face.
The officers walked over to Kimora and Neron and they stood up. I saw her looking frantic as she tried to explain herself, but it was no use. They pulled her arms behind her back, read her rights, and clink clinked that ass as they placed her hands in handcuffs. She was rambling and trying to defend herself, but it was no use. I had witnesses to confirm my story and she indeed hit me first. There was no way she could talk her way out of this shit. I grinned as I watched them escort her towards a squad car.
She was pissed as she shouted my way, “You stupid bitch, Gabriela! You always play the victim! You basically raped Neron and now you want to act innocent! You deserve that ass whooping. You’re going to get yours, bitch! Karma knows everyone’s address and you’ll get yours,” she yelled.
“Shut your mouth,” the officer shouted.
Kimora ignored him and kept going off as if the officer didn’t just tell her to shut the hell up.
I loved this shit. I loved seeing precious, innocent Kimora, be put in her place. The officer closed the back passenger door and I saw Kimora still running her mouth. Neron spoke to another officer for a brief second, got in his car, and jetted. He didn’t even look at me. Part of me was pissed off that he cared more about Kimora going to jail than me getting my ass beat. The entire time that she and I were fighting, he was standing off to the side as if he enjoyed watching me get thrashed around and pounded on.
Once the officer pulled off with Kimora in the backseat of the police car, the ambulance arrived on scene to take a look at my wounds. The officer led me towards the ambulance where the paramedics cleaned and patched me up.
The paramedic asked, “How many fingers am I holding up?”
“Three,” I replied.
“Well, it appears that you just have a mild concussion.”
Damn, I couldn’t believe this shit. Simple, sweet ass, spoiled Kimora had hands. That bitch fucked me up and gave me a concussion, but that was all right, her ass was on the way downtown, so I won!
“Pay attention now,” said the paramedic, snapping me out of my short-term glory. He lectured, “You need to go inside your home and rest.”
I hated this dude to talk because he kept spitting on me. Like damn, say it, don’t spray it.
“Now, I need you to look out for warning signs that would indict your concussion getting worse. Watch for symptoms such as vomiting. Be aware of changes in physical coordination such as stumbling or clumsiness. Pay attention to confusion or disorientation such as difficulty recognizing people or places. If your speech becomes slurred or other changes in speech or vision disturbances occur, it’s imperative that you go straight to the hospital or call 911 if you experience any of these things. Got it?”
“I understand,” I replied.
I stood up, happy to be getting away from this dude spitting on me like a water hose. After being tended to by medical, the officer wrote up a report, and as fast as they came, they left. Ryan still stood off to the side; I guess waiting for everyone to leave so he could talk to me about Magdalena. A few neighbors lingered around, still gossiping and being nosey. I rolled my eyes at the bystanders, who had nothing better to do than to stare at me. I turned my attention back to Ryan and just the sight of him irked me because now Neron doubted the paternity of Magdalena even more.
I bypassed Ryan and made my way upstairs to my apartment where I found my brothers all sitting on the sofa. Jose was feeding Magdalena a bottle. I could see the worry on their faces.
“Boys, I’m okay. Thing got out of hand with Neron’s new girlfriend and she attacked me, but I’m fine. She’s going to jail,” I said, giving them a shorter more appropriate version for their ages.
They looked relieved. I decided not to tell them about my mild concussion. I didn’t need to worry them even more than they already were.
I watched their eyes divert towards the front door. I turned around and Ryan was standing by the closed front door.
“What the fuck are you doing in my house?” I asked, causing Magdalena to scream. I demanded angrily, “Boys, go to the back.”
Ryan held his tongue as he waited for the kids to walk towards the back. He stared at Magdalena in amazement.
“She’s not your daughter,” I said, reading his thoughts.
He shook his head as he said concerned, “First of all, are you okay, Gabriela?”
“I'm all right. I’m a tough cookie. Thanks for breaking it up, though,” I replied, staring at him.
“I guess that was the infamous Neron, huh?” he asked.
This was his sorry ass attempt at making small talk, but I was irritated.
“Yeah, that was him. Look, what do you want?” I asked, getting straight to the chase.
“Gabriela, we were intimate. She could be mine. I just want to know,” he said with pleading eyes.
“That night we fucked was nothing. I was vulnerable. I was upset about Neron and I needed a shoulder to cry on. You were the one who gave me the idea of breaking into his house and fucking him. I was pleased with the advice you gave me, I felt better about the situation, and we ended up fucking. Case closed. The next day, I went and purchased Plan B. Therefore, Magdalena can’t be yours,” I replied with my hands folded across my chest.
“I don’t believe you, Gaby. She looks just like me.”
“You don’t have to believe me. Neron and I took a DNA test today and will get the results very soon. I can prove to you that you’re not the father,” I seethed. He was getting on my nerves with this shit.
Ryan was just my ex-neighbor from downstairs. He saw me crying in my car one day about Neron as he sat outside drinking a cold beer on the steps.
Hey neighbor, everything alright?” Ryan asked me as I started to walk up the stairs.
“I just had a bad day,” I said sniffling.
“I’m a good listener,” he replied, standing up.
“I’ll be okay.” I tried to avoid him, but he stood in my way. “Excuse me?” I was getting annoyed. I just wanted to go inside my apartment and down my sorrows on this cheap bottle of wine that I bought from the corner store. I didn’t want to be bothered.
“Listen, I don’t want anything from you. Like I said, I’m a great listener. I’ll let you vent and won’t judge you,” he said. He grabbed my hand and led me down the stairs, towards his apartment.
I jerked my hand away when we approached his front door. If he thought I was coming up in his house without knowing a damn thing about him, he had another thing coming.
“Relax! I’m going to get you a beer,” he chuckled as if he was reading my mind.
I slightly grinned and watched him walk into his home. Within seconds, he was back outside and handing me a cold Corona.
“Thank you.”
We walked back towards the stairwell and sat on the bottom steps. We began drinking and talking about our boring jobs and how much we suck at relationships. We actually had a lot in common, but as I’ve said before, he was not Neron.
“So, why did you and your girl break up?” I asked, taking a swig of my beer.
“She wasn’t the woman for me. She didn’t know how to treat a good man.”
“Damn, I feel you. My previous
boyfriend is now with my ex-best friend. We lost our kid and he just dismisses me like what we had wasn’t special,” I murmured.
“He’s an idiot!” Ryan blurted out.
I smiled at how sweet he was.
“It looks like it’s about to pour down. Wanna come inside for some more beer? I promise I don’t bite.”
“Okay,” I said a little too quickly. I loved the attention that he was giving me.
The rain started to pour down right when we made it inside Ryan’s apartment.
“Sorry for the mess. I’m packing and moving at the end of this week. I don’t stay in places too long. I love changes of scenery,” he said slightly embarrassed.
“Oh God, It is okay. I understand. Packing sucks.” I sat down on the black leather couch as Ryan smiled.
“Yeah, you never know how much stuff you have until it’s time to move.” He walked off towards the kitchen.
“Agreed!” I started looking around.
Everything was in boxes so it wasn’t much for me to judge. The only thing left out was his wooden, raggedy coffee table and his forty-inch television.
Ryan walked back into the living room, but this time it wasn’t beer in his hand. It was a bottle of Patron.
“Damn, Patron?” I asked.
Patron always knocked me on my ass. Patron was what had me seduce Neron at the party. That’s how I got pregnant with Mia.
“What? You can’t handle it?” he asked smirking.
“Nah, I can handle it! Pour it up,” I said, making my shoulders bounce in a rhythmic movement.
Ryan laughed and poured us four shots, two apiece.
“1, 2, 3…,” said Ryan.
We swiftly downed our shots and the liquor poured my throat, but I immediately felt good. After many more shots, I was shit faced.
“You know what I just thought of?” Ryan asked.
“What?” I downed another shot.
“I had a homeboy that told me—how this—this chick broke into his house and fucked him. You should try that,” he slurred.
