Geography; the central volcano in Tongariro National Park. Ngauruhoe is an active stratovolcano.
Pā
Maori, can refer to a village or settlement, but usually describes a hill fort.
Ohaupo
Location; a small town in the Waikato region, approximately 17 kilometres south of Hamilton.
Onīsan
Japanese, "Big Brother".
Rēwena
Maori, literally "ferment/rise". In terms of bread, it refers to a traditional Maori potato bread.
Ruapehu
Geography; the southernmost volcano in Tongariro National Park. Ruapehu is one of the most active stratovolcanoes in the world.
Tā Moko
Maori Culture; traditional Maori face and body tattoos.
Taupo, Lake
Geography; the largest lake in New Zealand, and second largest freshwater lake in Oceania. Lake Taupo fills the caldera of an ancient supervolcano. Some scientists believe this volcano was responsible for the largest eruption to take place on Earth in the last 70,000 years, which may have triggered the last ice age. It is considered dormant rather than extinct due to frequent geothermal activity in the region.
Taupo, Town.
Location; a large township on the north-eastern shores of Lake Taupo.
Te Awamutu
Location; a medium-sized township in the central Waikato. In the Survivors world, this town was razed by a large earthquake several years after the plague.
Tokaanu
Location; a small township on the southern shore of Lake Taupo.
Tokoroa
Location; a medium-sized town located in the central Waikato, half way between Hamilton and Taupo.
Tongariro
Geography; the northernmost volcano in Tongariro National Park. Tongariro is an active compound volcano.
Waiouru
Location; a small town in the Manawatu-Wanganui region, located approximately 25 kilometres south of Mount Ruapehu. It is home to the Waiouru Army Camp and Airfield.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Victoria Dreyer began her career in the most peculiar of ways, as the writer and illustrator of graphic novels. Although her ultimate dream was always to become a novelist, she spent many years exploring other mediums before finally returning to the one she felt most comfortable with – the written word.
Ms Dreyer is a voracious reader, and in addition to the post-apocalyptic genre she also enjoys reading and writing science fiction, modern fantasy, and the paranormal romance genres.
She currently resides in West Auckland with several flatmates, a large collection of books, and two very spoilt cats.
