“Cheated by God?” the nun asked.
“Yes,” Katherine said. “That He didn’t trust me.”
“Trust you? To do what? To take care of it yourself?”
Katherine paused, knowing how bad it would sound if she told the truth. “Yes,” she said anyway.
“Have you ever considered doing God’s work, Katherine?” the nun asked finally.
“I thought I was,” Katherine said.
“Yes, but I mean formally. Officially,” Sister Mary Margaret said.
“You mean…?”
“Yes,” Sister Mary Margaret said. “I mean, have you ever considered joining the convent?”
