Doggone Daddy Page 16

She put a finger to her lips and cocked her head. “Hmm, that’s a tough one.” She grinned. “But yeah. Having you in our family is even better than meeting Taylor Swift.”

Coming from her, that meant something. “I think so too,” I told her.

She flung her arms around my middle. “I love you, Trevor.”

I kept thinking my heart couldn’t feel any fuller. And each time I was wrong. “I love you too, honey.” I squeezed her back, tears blurring my vision slightly. I’d come to love this little girl like she was my own in the months I’d known her. To know she loved me back was an indescribable feeling.

“And I love you!” She addressed my stomach this time, rubbing her future sibling.

“How about Tony’s?” Jason asked as he loaded the dogs into the back seat. “We can pick up a pizza to go, watch some movies and hang out?”

“Yeah!” Stacia said with a fist pump into the air. She did a little happy dance. “Pizza night!”

The car ride home was loud and wild, Stacia talking nonstop, Jason and I joking around, and the dogs going a little crazy for a piece of the pizza that filled the car with its irresistible aroma. And I loved every second of it. I’d missed this. Being together as a family. Thankfully, being alone at home night after night was a thing of the past now.

I smiled to myself as we pulled up in front of Jason’s home. No, our home.

“What are you smiling about?” Jason asked.

“I’m just happy to be here,” I said. “To be home.”

He leaned over and took my cheek in his palm, and then lowered his lips to mine, kissing me softly.

Stacia giggled from the back seat.

“Later,” Jason mouthed with a wink. Then climbed from the car, leaving me staring after him, watching the way his ass moved as he walked around the car. Later, indeed.

The rest of the evening was about as perfect as it could get. We ate pizza on the couch then all piled up to watch movies, Jason’s choice this time, the dogs included. At one point, I looked over to see Clyde scooting closer and closer to Jason. What was that about? And Jason didn’t seem to mind in the least. In fact—

“Hey, are you feeding him pepperoni?” I asked, sitting up suddenly.

He winked and arched a brow. “Jealous I might have a new best friend?”

“Not at all. As long as he doesn’t take my place in your bed,” I said, laughing.

He snorted. “I don’t think you have to worry about that. Just because they’re part of the family doesn’t mean they get to sleep in our bed. Besides, I think they missed Stacia enough they may never leave her side.”

Bonnie was practically sitting on Stacia’s lap, and Clyde was even abandoning Jason’s pepperoni bribes to cuddle closer to her.

Stacia yawned, and Jason said, “You about ready for bed, baby?”

She nodded through her yawn and stretched her hands above her head. Together, Jason and I saw her off to bed. We sat beside her for a few minutes and told stories as she started to drift off. Bonnie and Clyde snuggled in with her, and before long they were all three off to dreamland.

Jason stood and reached for my hand before pulling me into his arms. We stared down at the three on the bed.

“We’re pretty lucky, wouldn’t you say,” Jason murmured. “To have such a beautiful family.” He rested a hand on my belly, his eyes still on Stacia and the dogs.

“The luckiest,” I replied, going up on my toes to kiss his cheek.

And I meant it. I was the luckiest man alive to have Jason for my mate. For the father of my child. And when he said family, I knew he meant all of us. The baby, Stacia, and the dogs.

Something had changed in him in the time we’d been apart. He’d obviously come to some kind of realization about the dogs being family. I wasn’t going to question it, simply accepting it as the blessing it was. A gift from fate, like finding him.

Jason turned me in his arms and kissed me properly. The air shifted. Awareness and desire sliding into the moment.

Wordlessly, he took my hand and led me from the room, down the hall to his bedroom. Our bedroom. I let out a small gasp when I saw all of my things were still in their place, never moved. As if on some level, Jason might have known we’d find our way back to each other.

He turned to me, suddenly serious, the lightness of the day slipping away as that look of regret crossed his face again.

“Trevor, I can’t tell you enough how sorry I am. I don’t even deserve this second chance. I was such an ass. And I can’t tell you how much it means to me that you’re here. That you came back to me. Or just how much I love you.”

“Then show me.” I leaned into him, my body desperate for the contact. I needed to feel every bit of him. It had been far too long, and I never wanted to spend another night without him.

He responded by pulling me toward him, our bodies flush against each other. He captured my face in his hands and kissed me deeply.

I moaned into his mouth, my body responding instantly. “Yes…”

“God, I need you,” he growled, running his hands down to my shoulders, my back, and then my hips. He jerked me forward and ground his hips against mine at the same time. My head fell back at the pure pleasure of feeling his rock-hard cock grinding against me.

“Yes,” I whimpered. “Fuck yes. I’m yours.”

He pulled back slightly. “I want you to be mine in every way.”

There was an intensity in his eyes. A longing.

“I am yours. In every way,” I told him, but he shook his head.

“I want to claim you, Trevor. I’m tired of waiting around for the right moment. I want you to truly be mine. My omega mate. I want give you a claiming bite and seal our connection forever.”

My heart skipped a beat. “I want that too. I’ve always wanted to be a wolf.”

Jason laughed. “Yes, you’ll be a wolf, but as you know you can’t shift until the baby is born, but you’ll have a wolf in you, bonded to mine. You’ll truly be mine in every way.”

“Yes. Yes, please,” I said, a thrill racing through me. This is what I’d wanted for so long. To be a shifter just like Jason, Stacia, and our baby. I was so ready and I didn’t want to wait, not even to have a proper ceremony.

I tipped my head back, exposing my neck, the position submissive to my alpha. A low growl rumbled in Jason’s chest and a shiver raced through my body. I tensed in anticipation.

He held me closely as he kissed my neck, gently, just a brush of his lips. Then he scraped his teeth along the vein that throbbed with my racing pulse. I sucked in a deep breath as he murmured again that he loved me.

Then the sharp pierce of his teeth caused my breath to rush out in a strangled gasp. But almost instantly, the initial pain subsided, and the strangest sensation overtook my senses.

An awareness was the only way I could describe it. The connection between us had always been strong, but this… This was something entirely different. It was as if my consciousness were expanding, becoming aware of something outside myself. Aware of Jason and his wolf. I could sense them in a way that was beyond the physical senses. Like our very souls were twining together. Becoming one.

I clung to him as he softly kissed my neck where he’d just claimed me.

“Are you okay?” he asked softly, pulling back to look at my face.

I stared up in awe, trying to comprehend the sensations racing through me. My blood felt hot, and I could hear the beat of Jason’s heart louder than ever. I could smell his scent that was uniquely him, like freshly mown grass and rainfall, but not through my nose. It was as if it completely surrounded me.

The awareness of him continued to grow, and then I felt the sudden need to have him. Now.

With a growl of my own, I grabbed his face and crushed my mouth to his, hungry for more. Wanting to be connected to him in every way now I could sense him on this strange new level.

“I need you,” I muttered, and he gripped my hips, digging his fingers in.

; “Good, because I don’t think I can wait another second to have you.”

We were suddenly frantic. In a frenzy. Desperate to be ever closer. Clothes flew off—hell, maybe even ripped off. And I didn’t even care. A sense of relief hit me as I finally got my hands on his bare skin.

“Fuck,” he groaned. “I’ve missed you so much.”

He turned me and moved me to the bed, sliding his hands all over my body, leaving a trail of fire in his wake. I ignited, every nerve ending sparking to life. Aching for my mate. I arched up against him, the feel of his hard cock rubbing against my thigh sending me into even more desperation. Almost like when I was in heat. Like I might die if I didn’t have him inside me.

“Oh god,” I moaned when he began to tease my asshole. “Please,” I begged. “Need…you…now.”

As if he understood the urgency, as if he felt it himself, he met my eyes and nodded. He pressed his mouth to mine in a searing kiss before he lifted my hips and teased my entrance with his swollen cockhead.

“Fuck, you’re already so slick for me.”

Good thing because neither of us were able to wait another second. In one swift motion he plunged inside me. A cry ripped from my throat as he filled me completely, burying his cock so deep his balls rested against my ass. I gripped his shoulders, feeling the tightness of his muscles, the tension I knew he needed to release.

Jason’s gaze locked with mine, and he began to move. I gasped and moaned as he fucked me hard and fast—just the way I liked it—and every second brought me closer and closer to the edge of ecstasy, but just when I thought I couldn’t take it any more—even though I wanted this to last forever because it was just that fucking good—Jason leaned over me so he could kiss me. The new angle and the barest touch of his lips ignited my body. I exploded in a fiery rush of heat, coming harder than I ever had before.

Jason said my name over and over, his own orgasm taking hold. His cock swelled, and I could feel every hard inch throbbing as he emptied himself inside me. I held him to me as we rode out the wave of pleasure, a rainbow of colors filling my vision as my body shook.

And there, at the edge of the sensations, was that same awareness. Of Jason and his wolf. Of my mate. I could actually feel his love winding around me, wrapping me up and holding me tight. Keeping me safe. Promising to love me forever. I could feel it deep inside me. A knowledge in my very soul that this man was mine in every way. My mate. My love.

“Okay, Kyle said they’re leaving the aquarium now,” Gavin said as he hung up the phone. “We don’t have much time left.”

Jaxon clapped his hands together. “Alright, let’s finish this up.”

My closest pack mates were over at the house helping me finish up a surprise for Trevor. We’d arranged for him to go out for the day with Kyle, and they’d taken Stacia, Brock and Raina.

Jaxon and Greer, Gavin, and Linc were here helping me put together a dream nursery for Trevor and the baby. We’d been planning it for weeks so when we finally got this day, we’d be able to knock it out in just a few hours.

I stepped back and surveyed our progress. Almost done. The previously gray walls were now a sky blue, and we’d painted a mural of the forest on one of the walls, complete with little woodland creatures. We’d decided not to find out the gender of our baby, though we’d gotten used to saying he, and though we were both excited for the surprise, it had caused a fair few headaches, specifically in relation to setting up the nursery.

“Watch out, coming through,” Linc said, carrying in a dresser now the paint was dry. Jaxon and I had just finished putting together the crib. All that was left was moving in the rest of the furniture we’d had delivered right after Trevor and Kyle left, and then setting out the decorations.

Twenty minutes later, it was done, and I stood in the door to take it all in. It looked completely different than it had just a few short hours before. I couldn’t wait to see the look on Trevor’s face.

“Okay,” Gavin said. “Kyle just texted and said they’re coming onto the homestead property. Trevor is dropping him off at our house then he’ll be here.”

“Great,” I said. That gave us just enough time for everyone to clear out. “Thank you all so much. I never could have gotten this done without your help.”

Greer came up and gave me a hug. “I’m so happy for you two, and I can’t wait to welcome a new baby into our pack family.” Greer loved babies, so I knew he was speaking from the heart.

I nodded, a sense of peace settling over me. I was so grateful Trevor and I had been able to overcome our problems. We’d easily settled into a routine, getting ready for the baby, and just living our best life. I couldn’t imagine anything that could top the feeling I had day in and day out, except having our baby, which was due literally any day. I couldn’t wait.

The guys all left, and I went to bring Bonnie and Clyde in so they could check out the nursery. They greeted me at the back door with their tongues hanging out, and I swore it looked like they were smiling.

“Okay, you two,” I said, bending down to rub their heads. They nuzzled up against me. “Come see for yourselves.”

I led them toward the nursery and they loped along beside me like I was their best friend in the world. It was amazing how the dynamics had developed between us. All it took was a mental shift. It hadn’t been totally trouble-free, but I’d been able to overcome my fears, all thanks to Trevor. He’d helped me see the truth. And now I loved these two, and they loved me. It was almost like we’d always been together, the dogs following me around all the time like I’d been their owner from day one. I knew some of it had to do with them sensing my wolf, my alpha nature. Turns out I had a lot more in common with these guys than I’d thought.

“Jason? I’m home,” Trevor called out, and I heard the front door shut.

“In here,” I called back. Then I turned to Bonnie and Clyde. “Do you think he’s going to like it?”

They wagged their tails then ran out in to the hallway as we heard Trevor’s footsteps on the stairs. I followed behind them, smiling when I saw Trevor stop on the landing. “How was the aquarium?”

He held his swollen belly, breathing hard. “Great, but I’m exhausted. Being on my feet that long wore me out. Oh, Stacia stayed to play with Brock.”

“Hmm,” I said, going to him and pulling him into my arms, kissing the top of his head. “Then why don’t you come put your feet up? I’ll give you a foot massage.”

I rubbed my hand across his belly, and the baby kicked in response, as if he could sense me. I bent down and spoke to Trevor’s baby bump. “You wearing your dad out, little one?”

Trevor sighed. “Like you wouldn’t believe. I think I’ll take you up on that foot rub.”

“Perfect,” I murmured, and then I took his hand and led him toward the nursery. He glanced at me, confused. As far as he knew, this room was completely empty. I pushed open the door, and he stopped in his tracks.

He brought his hands to his mouth. “Oh my god, Jason!” His gaze darted to me, eyes wide, before going right back to take in the new nursery. “I can’t believe this.”

I led him in further. “Do you like it?”

  “Like it? It’s perfect. Truly.”

He gave me one of his rainbow and sunshine smiles then wrapped his arms around my neck. I captured his mouth in a kiss before leading him over to the rocking chair I’d bought.

“Why don’t you sit. See how you like it.”

He sank into the plush cushion of the rocker, a groan of relief falling from his lips. He sighed and put his feet up on the matching footstool. “This is amazing.”

I sat down in front of him and took his shoes off. “Just relax and enjoy.”

Trevor met my eyes, his gaze full of love and wonder. “What did I ever do to deserve someone like you?”

I smiled tenderly. “Just being you.”

His eyes shone as he smiled back. “I’m so happy, Jason. Our entire life is perfec
t. I can’t wait for the baby to be here.”

“Now he has a place to come home to,” I said, getting to work on rubbing my mate’s feet, wanting him to relax and take it easy in the calm space I’d created for our child.

“Yeah, and I agree, this wooded theme does look better than having rainbows and sparkles,” Trevor replied.

I laughed, remembering our “discussions” about how we were going to decorate the nursery. We couldn’t agree, and Stacia hadn’t been any help, wanting a princess fairy theme. It was one of the reasons neither of us had done anything, but I didn’t want to risk having the baby come and having nothing ready except for the mound of baby clothes and accessories Trevor had squirreled away in our bedroom.

“Oh, I meant to tell you. I got an offer on the house today, and the agent seems to think the sale should go through with no problem if we accept.”

“College fund,” I said. Trevor nodded in agreement, and I continued massaging his feet until he suddenly went rigid, a small gasp falling from his lips.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, easing up on his foot. “Too hard?”

He shook his head and clenched his jaw. His hands went to his stomach. “I… I’m not sure.” He looked down at his belly, and my gaze followed.

I jerked my gaze back up to his, watching his face closely. He grimaced, his eyes closing as he blew out a breath slowly. “Trevor?”

He nodded. “I’m okay.” His voice sounded strained, though. “But that might have been a contraction.”

I jumped up from where I was on the floor, hovering over him. “What can I do?”

We’d taken all the childbirth classes, but everything I’d learned suddenly flew out the window. I set my hand on his stomach and found it rock hard. Okay, yeah, I remembered that part.

“Start a timer,” Trevor said, just as I was reaching for my phone. “Then help me stand. I think moving around will help.”

I started timing the contractions while holding Trevor’s hand as he paced around the room. After a bit, it was clear the contractions were coming closer together and getting stronger. Trevor had started gripping my hand so tightly as I helped him breathe through them that I knew we needed to get to the hospital.
